Gender-based violence (GBV) among female refugees/asylum seekers is a major underreported/understudied psychosocial issue. The aims of this study were: to describe the proportion of GBV-related experiences among female refugees/asylum seekers referred to a Cultural Consultation Service (CCS) in Montreal; to describe their sociodemographic and clinical characteristics; and to compare these characteristics among women who make GBV their principal refugee claim (Group A), those who did not but had suffered GBV (Group B1), and those who had never reported GBV (Group B2). Data on sociodemographic a

This study determined the factors associated with gender based violence among 3000 men and women in selected states in Nigeria. Respondents who had experienced physical violence were 806 (26.9%), comprising 353 (11.8%) males and 453 (15.1%) females (p<0.001). Respondents who had experienced sexual violence were 364 (12.1%) of which 221 (7.4%) were males and 143 (4.8%) were females (p<0.0001). Married female respondents were more likely to experience physical violence than single respondents (OR= 1.71, 95%CI: 1.15-2.53 p=0.008). In addition, lower risk of experiencing sexual violence among male

BACKGROUND: Although the Central African Republic (CAR) has adopted a National Strategy document to fight gender-based violence (GBV), the number of cases of sexual violence remains high year after year. Female Sex workers (FSW) are among the populations most vulnerable to GBV.
METHODS: This was a cross-sectional analytical survey. Respondent Driven Sampling (RDS) is a peer recruitment method often used to create a sample from seeds. Risk factors for GBV were assessed using multiple logistic regression.
RESULTS: Age group under 20 is more affected by GBV and sexual exploitation. The main det

Survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) have heightened cancer risks and are less likely to be up to date with cervical cancer screenings (CCS) and breast cancer screenings (BCS). Trauma-informed clinical practices are well positioned to make CCS and BCS more accessible to GBV survivors, but survivors' hesitance to disclose trauma history to health care providers often prevents effective delivery of trauma-informed care. The current study analyzed qualitative interview and survey data from GBV survivors (N = 110) to learn more about barriers to and facilitators of CCS and BCS, as well as to d

This study used in-depth interviews with a diverse sample of women with disabilities in Burkina Faso to explore how discrimination based on gender and disability intersects and influences exposure to violence, as well as the impact of such discrimination on social participation, a theme barely studied in West Africa. The study thematically analysed the narratives of 35 women with disabilities - including mental, physical, auditory and visual - (age range = 15-53), rural and urban that were collected through four focus groups and eight case stories of rape survivors. Intimate partner violence, particularly against women, is widely studied owing to its high rates, based on transnational data. Colombia, where this form of violence is considerably common, is no exception, and such violence is occurring more and more often in increasingly younger couples (10-14 years old). Further, risk factors such as wide acceptance, the justification of intimate partner violence, extremely rigid traditional gender roles, and poor socio-emotional skills play a crucial role. In accordance with this reality, a gender-based intimate partner violence prevention program was desig

Gender-based violence (GBV) is common in southern Africa. Here we use GBV to include sexual and non-sexual physical violence, emotional abuse, and forms of child sexual abuse. A sizeable literature now links GBV and HIV infection.Sexual violence can lead to HIV infection directly, as trauma increases the risk of transmission. More importantly, GBV increases HIV risk indirectly. Victims of childhood sexual abuse are more likely to be HIV positive, and to have high risk behaviours.GBV perpetrators are at risk of HIV infection, as their victims have often been victimised before and have a high ri

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a global concern impacting women irrespective of age, origin, or socioeconomic background. Globally, one in three women experiences physical and/or sexual violence during her life. Such experiences are postulated to increase the risk of developing psychiatric disorders and suicidal behavior. However, ecological multinational studies of this phenomenon remain scarce. Consequently, this study aimed to investigate the association between the degree of reported GBV and female suicide rates within a comprehensive multinational study. The effect of GBV - operationalize

IMPORTANCE: Yazidi women in northern Iraq have experienced severe human rights violations through attacks by the so-called Islamic State group, with severe consequences for their health. However, no studies to date have investigated how war-related and gender-based violence, including partner violence, are associated with mental health disorders in this population.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the associations between Yazidi women's experiences of violence (ie, war violence, partner violence, enslavement) and their mental health.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This cross-sectional study of 326

INTRODUCTION: Limited research describing the pattern of orthopaedic musculoskeletal injuries among gender-based violence (GBV) victims has been conducted in South Africa. With the high prevalence of GBV in our locality, there is a need for healthcare workers to identify this vulnerable population for early management, intervention, and prevention of subsequent assaults. This study aimed to describe the pattern of musculoskeletal injuries resulting from physical assaults due to GBV.
METHODS: This retrospective analysis was conducted in the orthopaedic department of a tertiary hospital in Sout
