Rhodiola L. is a genus exhibiting rapid radiation and represents a typical case for studying plastid gene adaptation in species that spread from high altitudes to low altitudes. In this study, 23 samples of 18 Rhodiola species were collected from the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and five scattered alpine areas, and the plastid genomes (plastomes) of these species were sequenced, annotated, and compared between high-altitude and widely distributed groups. The plastomes of Rhodiola were found to be highly conserved in terms of gene size, content, and order but highly variable in several lineage-speci

Delphinium, characterized by distinctive spurred flowers, comprises numerous high-altitude endemic species with significant ornamental and medicinal value. However, the intrageneric phylogenetic relationships and evolutionary history of Delphinium have remained poorly resolved, primarily due to the limited variability of traditional DNA markers and complex morphological homoplasy. In this study, complete chloroplast genomes of three Delphinium spp. were sequenced and combined with those of 29 Delphinium spp. publicly available plastomes to conduct a comprehensive phylogenomic analysis and dive

INTRODUCTION: The genus Indigofera is broadly distributed across tropical and subtropical regions and displays high morphological diversity, yet its phylogenetic relationships remain poorly resolved. This study aimed to characterize the complete chloroplast genome of Indigofera argentea from Saudi Arabia and evaluate its comparative genomic and phylogenetic relationships with other Indigofera species.
METHODS: The complete chloroplast genome of I. argentea was characterized and compared with seven publicly available Indigofera plastomes. Comparative analyses included genome structure, gene co

Epimedium grandiflorum C.Morren 1834 is a herbaceous perennial medicinal plant native to Japan. Here, we sequenced and assembled its first complete chloroplast genome. The chloroplast genome is 157,151 bp with a total GC content of 38.7%, containing a large single-copy region (89,464 bp), a small single-copy region (17,219 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (25,234 bp). We identified 112 unique genes, including 78 protein-coding genes, 30 transfer RNA genes, and four ribosomal RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis shows that E. grandiflorum formed a clade with E. trifoliolatobinatum (Koidz.

Aconitum episcopale Leveille is an important medicinal plant from the genus Aconitum L. of Ranunculaceae family and has been used as conventional medicine in Bai, Yi, and other ethnic groups of China. According to the available data and Ethno folk applications, A. episcopale is the only Aconitum species that has detoxifying and antialcoholic property. It can detoxify opium, especially the poisoning of Aconitum plants. Aconitum species have been widely used for their medicinal properties, and it is important to be noted that many of the species of this plant are reported to be toxic also. Disti

Chamaemelum nobile L. (Asteraceae), commonly known as Roman chamomile, is a perennial herb with branched rhizomes and multiple leafy stems. The length of the complete cp genome is 149,827 bp, and it comprises 128 genes, including 83 protein-coding genes, 8 ribosomal RNA genes, and 37 transfer RNA genes. By conducting phylogenetic analyses based on chloroplast genomes, we found that C. nobile was more closely related to Matricaria chamomilla var. recutita within the chamomile species. This finding contributes to a better understanding of the phylogenetic relationship between C. nobile and other

Calla lily (Zantedeschia spp.), native to southern Africa, is a very attractive plant and is used as cut flowers, potted flowering plants, and bedding plants. It can be distinguished into two groups depending on the color of the flower. The chloroplast genome of the hybrid variety 'Silky White' (Z. aethiopica × Z. aethiopica), a white-flowered calla lily, was sequenced using Illumina sequencing technology. The total length of the chloroplast genome was 168,880 bp with a GC content of 35.59%. It comprised a large single copy (LSC) region of 89,391 bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 31,849

Rubus hirsutus is a type of tonifying kidney-essence herb that belongs to the Rosaceae family, and has been commonly used to treat multiple diseases, such as polyuria, impotence, and infertility. In this study, we determined the complete chloroplast sequence of R. hirsutus and conduced a comparative analysis within the genus Rubus. The assembled chloroplast (cp.) genome is 156,380 bp in length with a GC content of 37.0% and shares a conserved quadripartite structure within the other cp. genomes in this genus. A total of 132 unique genes were annotated in the cp. genome of R. hirsutus, which co

Ranunculus L., the largest genus of Ranunculaceae, exhibits remarkable ecological diversity, yet genomic resources for this genus remain limited. Here we report the complete chloroplast (cp) genomes of Ranunculus arvensis L. and Ranunculus laetus Wall. ex Hook.f. & Thomson. The R. laetus assembly is the first cp genome reported for this species, whereas the R. arvensis assembly, generated from a Pakistani population, provides an independent accession that complements the recently released GenBank record PV621859 from China. Both genomes were analyzed comparatively against 22 previously publish

Known for its valuable agarwood, Aquilaria malaccensis Lam. is an evergreen tropical forest tree species endemic to the Indo-malesian region. Indiscriminate damaging and harvesting of the trees in the wild have resulted in it being listed in the CITES Appendix II for controlled trade and in the IUCN Red List as 'Vulnerable (VU)'. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of A. malaccensis was assembled using data from high-throughput Illumina sequencing. The chloroplast genome was 174,832 bp in size, which included two inverted repeat regions of 42,091 bp each, separated by a large single

Artocarpus nobilis Thwaites (Moraceae), endemic to Sri Lanka and classified as Vulnerable, was subjected to complete chloroplast genome sequencing and analysis. The 161,196-bp long genome had a GC content of 36% and comprised a large single-copy region of 89,878 bp, a short single-copy region of 19,982 bp, and two inverted repeats of 25,668 bp each. It contained 131 genes, including 86 protein-coding, eight rRNA, and 37 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed A. nobilis is closely related to A. heterophyllus and A. integer. These genomic data support future conservation and breeding studies.

Secale strictum subsp. kuprijanovii is a perennial, hermaphrodite wild rye species and a progenitor of the modern cultivated rye, Secale cereale. With high adaptive capacity in stress conditions, it is valuable for enriching the germplasm resources of rye. Therefore, to elucidate its genetic and phylogenetic relationship is of great importance. We hereby sequenced, assembled and presented for the first time the complete chloroplast genome of this less studied species. The whole genome is 137,079 bp in size, including a large single copy region of 81,099 bp, a small single copy region of 12,820

Diabetes Mellitus is an epidemic affecting > 500 million, claiming 6-7 million lives annually. Chemically synthesised Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) containing artificial amino acids reduce haemoglobin A1c and obesity but are not yet affordable and require invasive injections. High dosage requirement and gastrointestinal complications are among the current limitations of oral GLP-1RAs. Therefore, we expressed codon optimised Exenatide and Lixisenatide fused with Cholera-toxin B-subunit (CTB) in lettuce chloroplasts to facilitate their oral delivery, increase affordability

The Yao ethnomedicine "Xiaobai-beifeng" uses Aeschynanthus acuminatus, yet its chloroplast genome was uncharacterized. We report the first complete chloroplast genome (153,158 bp), a typical quadripartite structure encoding 125 unique genes. Phylogenomic analysis places A. acuminatus as sister to Lysionotus. This study provides a genomic resource for molecular identification and conservation of this medicinal plant.
