INTRODUCTION: The promising non-clinical antileishmanial effects of gentian violet (GV) encouraged us to evaluate the additive effect of GV on cryotherapy.
METHODS: For 8 weeks, 59/161 cutaneous leishmaniasis patients/lesions underwent cryotherapy alone (group 1) or cryotherapy accompanied by 1% GV application (group 2). The primary endpoint was clinical response.

Chemical mutagen-induced chromosome damage was analysed in cultured peripheral blood lymphocytes from beta-thalassaemia traits and healthy individuals. This was promoted by the fact that beta-thalassaemia trait is present in 1-17% of different population groups in India. A new regimen for the successful treatment of intractable postphlebitic ulceration of the leg is described. It is based on preliminary culture of organisms in the ulcers followed by sensitivity tests to ascertain the appropriate antibiotics or antibacterials to be used. The treatment of chronic and massive (uncomplicated) and severe (complicated) disseminated strongyloidosis, was presented from the historical point of view. The sequence of achievements in regard of treatment of the gentian violet, dithiazine iodide, benzimidazoles (thiabendazole, mebendazole, albendazole, cambendazole), ivermectin and cyclosporin A, was described.
