The effect of copper (Cu) depletion on the growth of tumors was investigated in a rat brain tumor model. 9L gliosarcoma cells were injected subcutaneously in 5-week-old male Fischer-344 rats. The control group (n = 18) received a normal diet throughout the experiment and the depletion group (n = 18) received a Cu-deficient diet starting 3 weeks prior to tumor implantation, and 2 mg of D-penicillamine orally, once daily, on the 3 days before and after implantation. Six animals from each group were killed at 1, 2, and 3 weeks following the implantation to measure the tumor weights and determine

Gliosarcoma is a rare histopathological subtype of glioblastoma. Metastatic spreading is unusual. In this report, we illustrate a case of gliosarcoma with extensive extracranial metastases with confirmation of histological and molecular concordance between the primary tumor and a metastatic lesion of the lung. Only the autopsy revealed the extent of metastatic spread and the hematogenous pattern of metastatic dissemination. Moreover, the case bared a familial coincidence of malignant glial tumors as the patient's son was diagnosed with a high-grade glioma shortly after the patient's death. By

BACKGROUND: Gliosarcoma (GS) is a rare primary high-grade brain neoplasm with a poor prognosis and challenging surgical resection. Although it is now considered a morphologic variant of IDH-wildtype glioblastoma (World Health Organization Classification of Tumours 2021), GS may display peculiarities that hamper both surgical and oncological management.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, we searched our registry for histologically confirmed GS patients between 2006 and 2020. Cases were reviewed for clinical information, pathologic characteristics, imaging findings, management, and outcome.

Histoplasmosis is usually a benign, self-limited disease with lungs predilection. However, it might manifest as a disseminated disease in immunocompromised individuals. The involvement of the central nervous system (CNS) accounts for about 5-10% of cases with disseminated disease. Isolated histoplasmosis of the CNS is rare, and the literature shows only a few reported cases. By imaging studies, it usually presents as an isolated ring-enhancing lesion. Its spectrum of symptoms ranges from acute severe infection to progressive chronic meningitis, which delays the initial diagnosis, correct work-

BACKGROUND: Gliosarcoma (GS) is a rare high-grade malignant tumor with poor prognosis. The survival period of GS ranges from 4 to 18.5 months. Rarely would it be over 40 months. Survival of intraventricular GS is less than 8 months.
METHODS: There were 2 cases of primary gliosarcoma in our hospital with long-term survival after resection, with one of pure intraventricular origin. We confirmed that our diagnosis was correct by light microscopy, GFAP immunohistochemistry and histochemistry of reticular fiber staining.
RESULTS: In the first case, a 47-year-old man with intraventricular gliosarc

A cell line (NCE-G28) was established from the biopsy material of a human gliosarcoma of low histological differentiation. The initial cultures showed a mixed population of cells which in later stages became more uniform due to loss of slower growing constituents. The cells have been growing steadily for 20 months. A suspension of NCE-G28 cells injected s.c. as well as i.p. into nude mice produced solid tumors in all cases. Histologically these tumors closely resembled the original tumor. The original tumor, the nude mouse tumor, and NCE-G28 cells were immunochemically positive for glial fibri

Intracranial gliosarcoma (GSM) is a rare and aggressive variant of glioblastoma, characterized by a dismal prognosis and high rates of early recurrence and metastasis. Preoperative differentiation from other neoplasms based on imaging features remains a significant clinical challenge. The current study reports the case of a 55-year-old female who presented with a headache as the primary clinical symptom. The patient underwent brain MRI due to progressively worsening symptoms of diplopia, intermittent dull headaches localized to the right occipital region and an unsteady gait. Preoperative magn

BACKGROUND: Glioblastoma is the most common and lethal brain tumor. Therapeutic options after recurrence are scarce and with no agreement as to which treatment to offer. Also, no functional tests are currently in use to guide clinical decisions. As a result, patients often undergo multiple treatments, being exposed to toxicities and wasting valuable time.
METHODS: Here we report a case of a 37-year-old man with a left temporal glioblastoma (gliosarcoma subtype), who underwent several surgeries and treatments. Tumor DNA sequencing revealed no actionable mutations. At the second recurrence, bra

Gliosarcoma is a rare and aggressive variant of glioblastoma, characterized by a biphasic histological pattern consisting of both glial and mesenchymal components. This case report describes the clinical presentation, radiological findings, surgical management, and histopathological analysis of gliosarcoma in a 30-year-old female. The patient presented with a 10-day history of right-sided headache and recurrent vomiting. Neurological examination was unremarkable, and vital signs were stable. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a heterogeneously enhancing mass lesion involving the right p

BACKGROUND: Gliosarcoma (GS) represents a rare, high-grade (WHO Grade IV), central nervous system neoplasm, characterized by a very poor prognosis. Similar to other high-grade gliomas, GS affects mainly adults in the 5th-7th decade of life and presents a higher incidence in males. The most reported locations of GS are the temporal lobe and the frontal lobe, while only eight cases of GS originating from the posterior cranial fossa are reported in the literature.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We report the first case occurring during pregnancy in a 33-year-old patient. Diagnosis was obtained on the 15th we

Gliosarcoma (GSM) is a rare biphasic neoplasms of the central nervous system composed of a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) admixed with a sarcomatous component. In clinical practice GSM is generally managed similarly to GBM. However, there are conflicting reports regarding their clinical aggressiveness, cell line of origin and possible prognosis compared with those of GBM. The objective of this study was to compare clinic-pathological features in GSM patients with the GBM patients during the same study period. 518 patients with GBM were treated at our hospital between 2008 and 2013, among them 5

Gliosarcomas are a variant of glioblastomas and present a biphasic pattern, with coexisting glial and mesenchymal components. In this study, two unusual cases are presented. Case 1 is a 52-year-old woman with a headache and memory disturbance for a month. Case 2 is an 18-year-old man with a headache lasting two weeks. In both cases, an MRI revealed enhancing T1-low to iso, T2-iso to high intensity lesions in the pineal gland region. Histologically, in case 1, the tumor showed spindle cell proliferation with disorganized fascicles and cellular pleomorphism. Tumor cells variously exhibited oncoc

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: A rare case of gliosarcoma in a 61-year-old woman is presented with a stable situation over 22 years with an excellent quality of life.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: The patient was initially symptomatic and was operated on in 1975 for a deep-seated left parietal gliosarcoma. During the following 20 years, she was clinically asymptomatic until she complained of increasing headache in 1995. Neuroradiological imaging showed a sharply demarcated lesion on MRI at the former operative site, which was operated on again. Four months later, the residual tumour did grow again.

INTRODUCTION: It is reported that migraine may be a risk factor for brain cancers. Since one of the best ways to assess this possible relationship is to study the molecular mechanism, here the common central dysregulated proteins between these diseases are investigated via network analysis.
METHODS: The dysregulated proteins of migraine and gliosarcoma are extracted from the STRING database and interacted via Cytoscape software, version 3.7.2. to form two separate networks. Central nodes of the networks are compared to find the common central district proteins. First neighbors of the common c

OBJECT: Gliosarcoma, a rare malignancy of the central nervous system, consists of gliomatous and sarcomatous elements. There are conflicting reports regarding its aggressiveness and cell line of origin compared with those of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). The goal of this study was to compare clinicopathological features such as disease-free survival time and actual survival time in patients with gliosarcoma with a matched group of patients with GBM as well as with the entire group of patients with GBM.
METHODS: The authors report on 18 cases of gliosarcoma derived from a series of 748 Grade

INTRODUCTION: A common view is that head tremor (HT) in cervical dystonia (CD) decreases when the head assumes an unopposed dystonic posture and increases when the head is held at midline. However, this has not been examined with objective measures in a large, multicenter cohort.
METHODS: For 80 participants with CD and HT, we analyzed videos from examination segments in which participants were instructed to 1) let their head drift to its most comfortable position (null point) and then 2) hold their head straight at midline. We used our previously developed Computational Motor Objective Rater

Gliosarcoma is rare among pediatric patients and among individuals with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). Here we compare 2 pediatric gliosarcoma patients, one of whom has NF1. We performed whole-exome sequencing, methylation, and copy number analysis on tumor and blood for both patients. Whole-exome sequencing showed higher mutational burden in the tumor of the patient without NF1. Copy number analysis showed differences in chromosomal losses/gains between the tumors. Neither tumor showed O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter methylation. The NF1 patient survived without progre

Trace element such as Cu and Zn have important chemical and biological properties. Recently, tissue Cu and Zn concentrations have been correlated with prognosis in selected malignancies. In addition, depletion of trace metals has suppressive effects on tumor growth in experimental rat models. We measured tissue levels of Cu and Zn and investigated the inhibitory effects on tumor growth in a rat brain tumor model by the Cu-depletion. 9L gliosarcoma cells were injected subcutaneously in 24 anesthetized 5 week old male Fischer-344 rats. Control animals (n = 12) were given a normal diet throughout

Gliosarcoma is a rare and highly malignant central nervous system tumor that accounts for 1%-8% of glioblastomas; it usually occurs in middle-aged and older adults between 40 and 60 years of age and is rare in children. We report an 11-year-old boy with right frontal lobe gliosarcoma who underwent aggressive gross total resection and postoperative radiotherapy, experienced recurrence and subsequently underwent a second operation. To better understand the disease and explore treatment options, we briefly report this case and review the relevant literature.
