Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and Trichoderma harzianum are known to affect plant growth and disease resistance through interaction with phytohormone synthesis or transport in the plant. Cross-talk between these microorganisms and their host plants normally occurs in nature and may affect plant resistance. Simultaneous quantification in the shoots of melon plants revealed significant changes in the levels of several hormones in response to inoculation with T. harzianum and two different AMF (Glomus intraradices and Glomus mosseae). Analysis of zeatin (Ze), indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), 1-am

Most land plants engage in arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) symbiosis with Glomeromycotina fungi for better access to mineral nutrients. The plant hormone ethylene suppresses AM development, but a molecular explanation for this phenomenon is lacking. Here we show that ethylene inhibits the expression of many genes required for AM formation in Lotus japonicus. These genes include strigolactone biosynthesis genes, which are needed for fungal activation, and Common Symbiosis genes, which are required for fungal entry into the root. Application of strigolactone analogs and ectopic expression of the Comm

Podocarps (Podocarpaceae) are one of the few lineages of conifers found in closed canopy tropical forests. They typically have highly restri … e aerial roots had significantly higher abundance of Trechisporales. When comparing across species, Glomeromycota were only detected in very low numbers overall (1.8%-3.3% of reads in angiosperms), and were especially low in Podocarpus (0.14% of reads). In contrast, Podocarpus had a higher fraction of reads belonging to Leotiomycetes than Graffenrieda and Weinm …

OBJECTIVES: Mucormycosis is a rare but refractory mycosis with high mortality. Few therapeutic options are available and novel strategies are needed. Calcineurin inhibitors are known to have antifungal activity, including synergy with various antifungals. We examined the interaction of caspofungin with calcineurin inhibitors and sirolimus against Glomeromycetes.
METHODS: Twenty-six strains of Glomeromycetes representing seven species (Rhizopus arrhizus, Rhizopus microsporus, Mucor sp., Rhizomucor pusillus, Cunninghamella berthollettiae, Mycocladus corymbifera and Apophysomyces elegans) were s

The 14-3-3 family proteins are involved in plant metabolism and stress signal transduction, while whether and how they contribute to the enhancement of host drought tolerance by arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi remains unclear. This study aimed to identify the 14-3-3 gene family (GRF) in trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata) and analyze their responses in roots to drought and inoculation with the AM fungus Funneliformis mosseae, integrating molecular data with physiological assessments. Despite drought-inhibited AM fungal colonization and soil mycelium length, AM inoculation markedly increa

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi can increase the host resistance to pathogens via promoted phenolic synthesis, however, the signaling pathway responsible for it still remains unclear. In this study, in order to reveal the signaling molecules involved in this process, we inoculated Trifolium repense L. with an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF), Glomus mosseae, and monitored the contents of phenolics and signaling molecules (hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)), salicylic acid (SA), and nitric oxide (NO)) in roots, measured the activities of l-phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) and nitric oxide synthase (

BACKGROUND: Mucormycosis is a rare, opportunistic fungal infection with high mortality rates, predominantly affecting immunocompromised patients. Its management is challenging due to diagnostic complexity and limited therapeutic options.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analyzed 21 cases of mucormycosis diagnosed at the University Hospital of Liège between July 2018 and August 2023. Clinical, microbiological, and radiological data were evaluated to identify risk factors, treatment modalities, and outcomes.
RESULTS: Hematological malignancies (82%) and immunosuppressive therapy (53%)
