Neuroprotective effects of isoflavone-enriched soybean leaves (Glycine Max) on scopolamine-induced memory deficits in C57BL/6 mice via antioxidative mechanisms.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective and memory-enhancing effects of isoflavone-enriched soybean leaves (IESLs) against scopolamine-induced cognitive impairment. While soybean leaves (SLs) are naturally rich in kaempferol glycosides and soyasaponins, IESLs are characterized by significantly elevated isoflavone levels through metabolite farming. METHODS: To assess the efficacy of IESLs, C57BL/6 mice were orally administered IESLs (6.25 and 18.8 mg isoflavones/kg/day) for 5 weeks, with scopolamine (1 mg/kg, i.p.) administered to induce memory impairment. Spatial lea

Graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets mitigate cadmium toxicity in Glycine max L. by promoting cadmium retention in root and improving photosynthetic performance.

Cadmium (Cd) pollution poses a serious threat to plant growth and yield. Nanomaterials have shown great application potential for alleviation of Cd toxicity to plants. In this study, we applied graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets (g-C3N4 NSs) for alleviation of Cd-toxicity to soybean (Glycine max L.). The g-C3N4 NSs supplementation significantly improved plant growth and reduced oxidative damage in the Cd-toxicated soybean seedlings through hydroponic culture. Particularly, the g-C3N4 NSs dynamically regulated the root cell wall (RCW) components by increasing pectin content and modifying its d

Metabolomics Reveals Distinct Carbon and Nitrogen Metabolic Responses to Magnesium Deficiency in Leaves and Roots of Soybean [Glycine max (Linn.) Merr.].

Magnesium (Mg) deficiency, a widespread yet overlooked problem in agriculture, has been reported to retard plant growth and development, through affecting key metabolic pathways. However, the metabolic responses of plant to Mg deficiency is still not fully understood. Here we report a metabolomic study to evaluate the metabolic responses to Mg deficiency in soybean leaves and roots. Hydroponic grown soybean were exposed to Mg starvation for 4 and 8 days, respectively. Metabolic changes in the first mature trifoliolate leaves and roots were quantified by conducting GC-TOF-MS based metabolomic a

Genetic diversity and population structure analysis of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] genotypes based on agro-morphological traits and SNP markers.

Soybean (Glycine max) is one of the world's most important oilseed crops and has adapted to various environmental conditions. Yields of soybeans in Nigeria are notably low due to different production constraints, including the limited availability of improved varieties and the slow replacement rate of old varieties with new and high-yielding ones. Ensuring high genetic diversity in the working germplasm is among the primary factors for the success of breeding programs in identifying high-yielding and well-adapted improved varieties. This study aimed to assess the genetic diversity and populati

Sedative-Hypnotic Effects of Glycine max Merr. Extract and Its Active Ingredient Genistein on Electric-Shock-Induced Sleep Disturbances in Rats.

Glycine max Merr. (GM) is a functional food that provides many beneficial phytochemicals. However, scientific evidence of its antidepressive and sedative activities is scarce. The present study was designed to investigate the antidepressive and calmative effects of GM and its biologically active compound, genistein (GE), using electroencephalography (EEG) analysis in an electric foot shock (EFS)-stressed rat. The underlying neural mechanisms of their beneficial effects were determined by assessing corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), serotonin (5-HT), and c-Fos immunoreactivity in the brain u

Effect of Fe:ligand ratios on hydroponic conditions and calcareous soil in Solanum lycopersicum L. and Glycine max L. fertilized with heptagluconate and gluconate.

BACKGROUND: The environmental risk from the application of synthetic chelates has led to the use of biodegradable complexes to correct Fe deficiency in plants. In this article, the Fe oxidation state, the Fe:ligand ratio, and the molecular weight distribution for heptagluconate (G7) and gluconate (G6) are considered as key factors for the efficacy of complexes as fertilizers. Complexes with different Fe:ligand ratios were prepared and analyzed by gel filtration chromatography (GFC). The ability of Fe:ligand ratios to provide Fe to tomato in hydroponics and soybean in calcareous soil was tested

Streptomyces as microbial biofactories: optimization of auxin production and growth-promoting activity of cell-free supernatants in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.).

Auxins are plant growth regulators, and Actinobacteria, particularly Streptomyces, can synthesize indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), the most prevalent auxin, contributing to plant growth promotion. In this study, three auxin-producing Streptomyces isolates (CLV45, CLV104, and CLV194) were characterized, and auxin biosynthesis was evaluated under different cultivation conditions. Isolates were cultivated in ISP2 broth, and auxin-related compounds were quantified using the Salkowski assay and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Isolates were assigned to the genus Streptomyces based on morph

Phylogenetic relationships among Bradyrhizobium species nodulating groundnut (Arachis hypogea L.), jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis L.) and soybean (Glycine max Merr.) in Eswatini.

This study assessed the genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships of rhizobial isolates obtained from root nodules of groundnut, jack bean and soybean planted in different locations within Eswatini. Seventy-six rhizobial isolates were studied using ERIC-PCR (enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus) fingerprinting and PCR amplification of 16S rRNA, housekeeping genes (atpD, dnaK, glnll and rpoB) and symbiotic genes (nifH and nodC). The dendrogram generated from the ERIC-PCR banding patterns grouped the test rhizobial isolates into 16 major clusters (Cluster I-XVI), with three iso

Redox markers for drought-induced nodule senescence, a process occurring after drought-induced senescence of the lowest leaves in soybean (Glycine max).

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Water is an increasingly scarce resource that limits crop productivity in many parts of the world, and the frequency and severity of drought are predicted to increase as a result of climate change. Improving tolerance to drought stress is therefore important for maximizing future crop yields. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of drought on soybean (Glycine max) leaves and nodules in order to define phenotypic markers and changes in cellular redox state that characterize the stress response in different organs, and to characterize the relationships between le

Photosynthesis-informed breeding to enhance Soybean (Glycine max) yield potential: a framework integrating high-throughput phenomics, genomic prediction and G×E×M.

Unexploited genetic variation in soybean photosynthetic efficiency can be converted into yield gains by coupling high-throughput phenotyping with genomic-phenomic prediction within a G×E×M-oriented breeding framework built on heritable, physiologically meaningful traits. Improving crop yield through enhanced photosynthetic efficiency (PE) is a re-emerging and increasingly tractable objective for modern breeding, driven by recent advances in high-throughput field phenotyping, genomics, and data analytics. In C3 crops like soybean, radiation use efficiency (RUE) remains below the theoretical max

Nitrogen lowers the sulfur amino acid content of soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) by regulating the accumulation of Bowman-Birk protease inhibitor.

Soybeans in general contain 35-40% protein. Efforts are underway to increase further this protein content, thus enhancing their nutritive value. Even though higher protein is a desirable characteristic, whether such an increase will be accompanied by enhanced protein quality is not known. Soybean protein quality could be significantly improved by increasing the concentration of the sulfur-containing amino acids, cysteine and methionine. To ascertain if a correlation existed between protein quantity and quality, a comparison of the amino acids of soybeans differing in protein content was made.

Glutamine synthetase, glutamate synthase and glutamate dehydrogenase in Rhizobium japonicum strains grown in cultures and in bacteroids from root nodules of Glycine max.

The growth yields of three strains of Rhizobium japonicum (CB 1809, CC 723, CC 705) in culture solutions containing L-glutamate were about twice those grown with ammonium. The activities of glutamine synthetase (GS; EC 6.3.1.2) and glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH; EC 1.4.1.4) were dependent on the nitrogen source in the medium and also varied with growth. Both NADPH-and NADH-dependent glutamate synthase (GOGAT; EC 1.4.1.13) and NADPH-dependent GDH were found in strains grown with either glutamate or ammonium but NADH-linked GDH was only detected in glutamate-grown cells. Glutamine synthetase was

Optimization of plant growth regulators and media compositions to enhance in vitro gametic embryogenesis through anther culture of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.].

Soybean is a major oilseed crop of global importance. Although haploid and doubled haploid (DH) production has been attempted in soybean, androgenesis success remains very low (approximately 2%). The study aims to standardize a protocol for haploid production through anther culture. Under aseptic conditions, anthers were excised from immature buds (2.9-3.1 mm), pre-treated at 4 °C for 24 h and cultured in different induction media. The highest callus induction (100%) was observed in the genotype SKAF148 on BNN medium supplemented with 5 mg/L 2,4-D and 1.5 mg/L BAP. Cultures were initially incu

Co-elevated CO2 concentration and temperature enhance the carbon assimilation and lipid metabolism in a high-oil soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) variety.

Global climate changes, such as elevated CO2 concentrations (eCO2) and rising temperatures, trigger complex interactions that collectively affect soybean growth and seed quality. To investigate the effects of eCO2 and elevated temperature on carbon and lipid metabolism in soybeans, the high-oil Zhonghuang35 (ZH35) and the low-oil soybean Jindazaohuang2 (JZ2) were used in this study. Four treatments were set up in the controlled air chambers. They were CK (ambient [CO2] and temperature), EC (ambient [CO2] +200 μmol mol-1 and ambient temperature), ET (ambient [CO2] and ambient temperature +2 °C)

Integrated GWAS and Functional Analyses Reveal a Multi-Layer Regulatory Network Orchestrating Spermidine Homeostasis and Stress Tolerance in Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.).

Spermidine (Spd) is a pivotal polyamine involved in plant growth and stress tolerance, but its genetic regulation in soybeans (Glycine max) remains unclear. In this study, we quantified seed Spd content in 208 soybean accessions across two years by RP-HPLC and performed GWAS. Spd showed continuous variation and a high broad-sense heritability (H2 = 0.99). GWAS identified a major repeated locus on chromosome 18, and integrated haplotype and functional analyses prioritized GmSHMT, GmMYB91, and GmCAT9. Favorable haplotypes of these genes were associated with higher Spd content. Promoter analysis
