Blunt laryngeal trauma resulting in arytenoid dislocation and dysphonia.

We present a case of left arytenoid dislocation due to blunt laryngeal trauma causing a subsequent large granuloma formation resulting in dysphonia and stridor. The patient underwent emergency excision of the obstructive granuloma and speech therapy was started post-operatively. A few weeks after surgery, the granuloma started to recur and laryngeal manipulation by a specialist osteopath was performed. A few weeks after the conservative management, the recurred granuloma resolved completely and patient's voice improved remarkably. Dislocation of the arytenoid cartilage due to blunt trauma is r

Peptic (contact ulcer) granuloma of the larynx.

Review of published work and analysis of clinical data and pathology of four biopsy specimens from two patients with laryngeal contact granuloma showed that its peptic origin was derived from a gastro-oesophago-laryngeal reflux. It is proposed that the term "peptic granuloma" should be given to this phenomenon. This term is given further support on account of the spectacular recovery of the laryngeal lesion following antacid and antireflux treatment, rather than the traditional method of using vocal rest and speech therapy, assumed to be the best way of treating a result of mechanical irritati

Laryngeal stenosis in a patient with severe congenital neutropenia.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: We report the first case of laryngeal stenosis with granuloma in a patient with severe congenital neutropenia (SCN). STUDY DESIGN: Case report and retrospective review. METHODS: Review of medical records. RESULTS: A 6-year-old female who was diagnosed with SCN presented with a cough and wheezing. An endoscopic study revealed laryngeal stenosis with granuloma. Tracheotomy and direct laryngoscopy were performed under general anesthesia, and administration of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor was started. The laryngeal granuloma disappeared 3 weeks later, and the tra

Atypical Arytenoid Lesion Revealing Lobular Capillary Hemangioma: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Challenges.

Lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH), historically referred to as pyogenic granuloma, is a benign vascular proliferation rarely identified within the larynx. Due to its uncommon location and variable endoscopic appearance, laryngeal LCH may mimic other benign laryngeal lesions, including contact granuloma, creating diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Unlike conventional laryngeal granuloma, which is frequently managed conservatively, LCH often requires surgical excision and histopathological confirmation for definitive diagnosis. We present the case of an 18-year-old female patient with persi

Vocal process granuloma: clinical characterization, treatment and evolution.

UNLABELLED: Vocal process granuloma is a disease whose etiopathogenesis is not well defined. Therefore, its clinical and surgical treatment is not standardized and its therapeutic results depend on the hospital where it is seen. AIM: Aiming to characterize patients with vocal process granuloma treated in our hospital, the therapeutic approach used and clinical evolution. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We performed a retrospective review of records. RESULTS: We found more male vocal process granuloma, except when associated with laryngeal intubation. The most frequent related etiopathogenic factor was

Silicone stent placement for laryngeal diseases: a retrospective study of 14 dogs (2022-2025).

OBJECTIVES: Surgical lateralisation is the gold standard for treating laryngeal paralysis in dogs; however, it remains invasive and expensive with possible life-threatening complications. This study evaluated the outcome of a non-surgical technique, laryngeal stent placement, for the treatment of laryngeal paralysis and other laryngeal conditions in dogs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective single-centre descriptive analysis of medical records was performed for dogs treated with a laryngeal silicone stent between 2022 and 2025. RESULTS: Fourteen dogs were included. Laryngeal paralysis was

Glottic Pyogenic Granuloma in the Setting of Helicobacter pylori Gastritis.

Pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular lesion that rarely involves the larynx. Known associated factors include trauma, hormonal changes, and laryngopharyngeal reflux, but no prior case has described glottic pyogenic granuloma in association with Helicobacter pylori gastritis. We report a 57-year-old man who presented with progressive dysphonia and was found to have a large hypervascular mass of the right anterior vocal fold causing partial glottic airway obstruction. Excisional biopsy confirmed pyogenic granuloma. Concurrent esophagoscopy with gastroesophageal junction biopsies revealed H. p

In-Office Excision En Masse of a Vocal Process Granuloma Using the Potassium-Titanyl-Phosphate Laser.

BACKGROUND: In-office laryngeal surgery is taking on a more commonplace role in the treatment of laryngeal disorders. The potassium-titanyl-phosphate (KTP) laser has been a resourceful adjunct to the management of patients with mucosal lesions of the vocal cords. However, a paucity of data exists for its use in postintubation granulomas treated in-office. CLINICAL CASE: A 43-year-old female presented with voice hoarseness and found to have a large obstructing postintubation granuloma which was treated by in-office KTP laser and en masse excision. CONCLUSIONS: We report the successful case of

[Isolated laryngeal tuberculosis as an uncommon manifestation of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in adults: a case report].

Isolated laryngeal tuberculosis is rare and sometimes difficult to diagnose. It is the most common cause of laryngeal granuloma. We here report the case of a 58-year-old man, with no particular past medical history, hospitalized due to paroxysmal laryngeal dyspnea, dysphagia to solid foods and dysphonia evolving for 6 months without other associated signs. Laryngoscopic examination showed polyploid formation masking the glottic floor. Histological examination revealed epithelioid and gigantocellular granuloma, without caseous necrosis. Direct microscopic examination and culture were negative.

Ablation of Teflon granulomas in the canine larynx with the free-electron laser.

This study develops a canine model for the treatment of laryngeal Teflon granulomas and demonstrates endoscopic ablation using the free-electron laser (FEL) set at a wavelength of 8.5 microm. Laryngeal Teflon granulomas may cause dysphonia and airway obstruction, and they are difficult to remove. The infrared absorption spectrum of Teflon reveals a strong absorption peak centered at 8.5 microm. In this study, 12 dogs had the right vocal cord injected with Teflon paste. Two months later, Teflon granuloma formation was confirmed histologically. Laser incisions into the granulomas were performed

Multiple plasma cell granulomas of the larynx in a young man.

Plasma cell granuloma of the larynx is a rare benign lesion of unknown etiology, with only 21 cases reported previously. We report an additional case of plasma cell granuloma in which a 26-year-old man experienced a 1.5 × 3.4-cm, completely obstructing subglottic lesion. Because of the patient's young age, history of hemoptysis, bleeding from his tracheostomy, and the rarity of plasma cell granulomas, the patient was assumed to have hemangioma until proven otherwise. He presented with a partially obstructing glottic lesion 4 months later. Both the subglottic and glottic lesions were excised en

Diagnosis of laryngeal tuberculosis in a high TB burden area.

PURPOSE: The larynx is the second most commonly affected site in the head and neck region in patients with extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB). Despite this, the prevalence of laryngeal TB is largely unknown, particularly in areas with a high TB burden. The laboratory diagnosis of TB includes microscopy, culture and molecular testing. The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of laryngeal TB in patients presenting with laryngeal pathology in a region with a high TB burden and to determine the optimal diagnostic methods for the diagnosis of laryngeal TB. METHODS: This was a prospect

Laryngeal sarcoidosis: presentation and management in the pediatric population.

BACKGROUND: Sarcoidosis is a disease characterized by systemic non-necrotizing granulomas of unknown etiology. Laryngeal sarcoidosis is extremely uncommon, especially among pediatric patients. The clinical presentation and management of this entity in the pediatric population are poorly understood. METHODS: A comprehensive search in PubMed was conducted to identify all cases in the published literature. We also present a case of isolated pediatric laryngeal sarcoidosis and outline the multidisciplinary approach to evaluation and management. RESULTS: A previously healthy 13-year-old female pr

Voice characteristics, effects of voice therapy, and long-term follow-up of contact granuloma patients.

This study evaluates the laryngoscopic findings and voice characteristics of male contact granuloma patients before and after voice therapy and at a follow-up about 9 years later. Pre- and posttherapy recordings as well as follow-up recordings were made for 19 granuloma patients. Pretherapy revealed the most salient perceptual voice characteristics were low pitch, monotony, and a high degree of vocal fry and hyperfunction. Interjudge reliability for these traits was high. Immediately following therapy the healed patients (n = 10) had a decrease in hyperfunction, vocal fry, and monotony, while

[A case of intubation granuloma treated with steroid inhalation].

A 36-year-old woman was given a diagnosis of hemophagocytic syndrome associated with systemic lupus erythematosus, and was treated with high-dose methylprednisolone and etoposide. She needed endotracheal intubation for mechanical ventilation because of respiratory failure. She developed hoarseness and stridor 69 days after extubation. A pedunculated mass under her glottis was observed by the laryngoscopy. Development of a laryngeal granuloma due to long-term contact with the endotracheal tube was considered, although she was continuously given oral prednisolone (22.5 mg/day) even after extubat
