United States head circumference growth reference charts: birth to 21 years.

OBJECTIVE: To produce a more reliable, continuous set of occipitofrontal head circumference (OFC) growth reference charts for males and females from birth to adulthood in the United States. STUDY DESIGN: After investigating the strengths and shortcomings of previous reports, we combined the most recent statistically reliable reports of OFC growth reference data into a locally weighted regression analysis to estimate percentile curves. We used cross-sectional prospective local pediatric data to validate our results. RESULTS: We present new age- and sex-appropriate US OFC growth charts from bi

Individualized growth charts for ultrasound measurements can significantly improve fetal monitoring.

OBJECTIVE: For monitoring pregnancies it is useful to reduce unnecessary examinations due to wrongfully assumed growth retardation in cases with a small fetal growth potential. It also makes sense to improve the detection of objectively retardated children in order to a disproportionately high growth potential. It was the aim of this study to modify the standard growth charts for ultrasound parameters according to parental influences to better display the individual growth potential. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In a prospective trial 1,390 ultrasound measurements of 174 completed pregnancies were o

Fetal Growth Assessment in Twin Pregnancies: Evidence-Based Evaluation of Singleton Versus Twin-Specific Growth Charts.

The epidemiology of twin pregnancies has shifted considerably over recent decades. Since 1980, the twin birth rate in the United States has increased by 76%, largely driven by the widespread use of assisted reproductive technologies (ART). This demographic change has reshaped clinical perspectives and evidence on the natural history of twin gestations, underscoring their unique risks and management needs. Twin pregnancies remain associated with a markedly higher risk of adverse outcomes compared with singletons. The perinatal mortality rate is estimated at 16.0 to 17.3 per 1000 births, with fe

An EHR-based framework for modeling growth curves and constructing growth centile charts for genetic disorders.

Growth modeling is central to human genetics, as deviations from typical growth can signal an underlying disorder. In this cohort study, we developed a generalizable framework for generating growth charts across genetic conditions using electronic health records (EHR). Leveraging 22 years of longitudinal EHR data from 452,470 patients across 15 genetic conditions and unaffected individuals, we generated sex- and condition-specific growth charts using Generalized Additive Models for Location, Scale, and Shape, and quantified differences in size, timing, and intensity using SuperImposition by Tr

Growth charts for weight and height of Indian children with Down syndrome.

Age and gender specific growth charts for Indian children with Down syndrome (DS) based on longitudinal data have not been published. To establish percentile growth charts for DS children inhabiting northwestern parts of India, body weight and length/height of 1125 (Male: 752, Female: 373) children with DS aged <1 month to 10 years, enrolled from the "Genetics Clinic" were measured at half yearly age intervals in the "Growth Clinic" of the Institute from August 1994 to November 2018. A total of 2089 observations were made on these children using standardized anthropometric techniques and instr

Development of Myelin Growth Charts of the White Matter Using T1 Relaxometry.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Myelin maturation occurs in late fetal life to early adulthood, with the most rapid changes observed in the first few years of infancy. To quantify the degree of myelination, a specific MR imaging sequence is required to measure the changes in tissue proton relaxivity (R1). R1 positively correlates with the degree of myelination maturation at a given age. Similar to head circumference charts, these data can be used to develop normal growth charts for specific white matter tracts to detect pathologies involving abnormal myelination. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a cros

Noonan Syndrome Growth Charts and Genotypes: 15-Year Longitudinal Single-Centre Study.

INTRODUCTION: Growth patterns in Noonan syndrome (NS) remain relatively unknown. The objective of this study was to provide growth reference curves for patients with NS and identify correlations between their growth, genotype, and clinical features. METHODS: This was a 15-year-long, monocentric, observational, retrospective, non-interventional study. Children with NS followed up between 2005 and 2022 at "Bambino Gesù" Children's Hospital, Italy, were included and excluded if they had received growth hormone treatment. Comparison of growth curves of participants with NS versus the general Ital

[Effect of changing reference growth charts on the prevalence of short stature].

INTRODUCTION: Short stature is a family concern, and is a common reason for consultations in paediatrics. Growth charts are an essential diagnostic tool. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of changing reference charts in the diagnosis of short stature in a health area. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A population-based-cross-sectional-descriptive-study was performed in which the height of children of 4, 6, 10 and 13 years-old were compared with the growth charts of the Fundación Orbegozo 2004 Longitudinal and 2011. The prevalence of short stature and the 3rd percentile of the study s

The World Health Organization fetal growth charts: concept, findings, interpretation, and application.

Ultrasound biometry is an important clinical tool for the identification, monitoring, and management of fetal growth restriction and development of macrosomia. This is even truer in populations in which perinatal morbidity and mortality rates are high, which is a reason that much effort is put onto making the technique available everywhere, including low-income societies. Until recently, however, commonly used reference ranges were based on single populations largely from industrialized countries. Thus, the World Health Organization prioritized the establishment of fetal growth charts for inte

Head circumference growth reference charts for Turkish children aged 0-84 months.

This study sought to produce updated head circumference references in a representative population of Turkish children aged 0 to <84 months. Head circumference measurements are very important in monitoring child growth, to evaluate macrocephaly and microcephaly. Primary sampling units involved family health centers in the city center and suburbs of Kayseri. In total, 2989 children (1479 boys and 1510 girls) were included. Head circumference was measured with a nonelastic tape on a line passing over the glabella and posterior occipital protrusion in children aged 0-2 years lying on a bed, and ch

Growth charts for Down's syndrome from birth to 18 years of age.

BACKGROUND: Growth in children with Down's syndrome (DS) differs markedly from that of normal children. The use of DS specific growth charts is important for diagnosis of associated diseases, such as coeliac disease and hypothyroidism, which may further impair growth. AIMS: To present Swedish DS specific growth charts. METHODS: The growth charts are based on a combination of longitudinal and cross sectional data from 4832 examinations of 354 individuals with DS (203 males, 151 females), born in 1970-97. RESULTS: Mean birth length was 48 cm in both sexes. Final height, 161.5 cm for males and

Growth Charts for Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome at Ages 0 to 18 Years.

Shwachman-Diamond syndrome (SDS) is one of the most common inherited bone marrow failure syndromes. SDS is characterized by hypocellular bone marrow, with a severe impairment of the myeloid lineage, resulting in neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and, more rarely, anemia. Almost 15% of patients with SDS develop myelodysplastic syndrome or acute myeloid leukemia as early as childhood or young adulthood. Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency is another common feature of SDS. Almost all patients with SDS show failure to thrive, which is associated with skeletal abnormalities due to defective ossification

Testing the assumptions of customized intrauterine growth charts using national birth studies.

INTRODUCTION: Customized intrauterine growth charts are widely used for growth monitoring and research. They are based on three assumptions: (1) estimated fetal weight (EFW) has a normal distribution with a constant coefficient of variation at all gestational ages; (2) Hadlock's growth curve accurately describes the relation between EFW and gestational ages; (3) associations between EFW and the fetal and maternal characteristics included in the customization model (fetal sex, pre-pregnancy weight, height, parity) are proportional throughout pregnancy. The aim of this study was to test whether

Preventing term stillbirth: benefits and limitations of using fetal growth reference charts.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review examines the variation in clinical practice with regards to ultrasound estimation of fetal weight, as well as calculation of fetal weight centiles. RECENT FINDINGS: Placental dysfunction is associated with fetal smallness from intrauterine malnutrition as well as fetal disability and even stillbirth from hypoxemia. Although estimating fetal weight can be done accurately, the issue of which fetal weight centile chart should be used continues to be a contentious topic. The arguments against local fetal growth charts based on national borders and customization for

Growth chart patterns and clinical implications in thumb hypoplasia.

INTRODUCTION: Thumb hypoplasia is a rare congenital condition that may occur in isolation or as part of multisystem syndromes. Although its anatomical and surgical management are well described, data on long-term postnatal growth patterns remain limited. METHODS: This was a retrospective review of children diagnosed with thumb hypoplasia from 2003 to 2025. Data collected included demographics, Manske classification, syndromic status, surgical management and longitudinal growth measurements. Weight-, height-, and body mass index for age z-scores were calculated using World Health Organization
