Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) often remain untreated because they are difficult to heal, caused by reduced skin sensitivity and impaired blood vessel formation. In this study, we propose a novel approach to manage DFUs using a multifunctional hydrogel made from a combination of alginate and gum arabic. To enhance the healing properties of the hydrogel, we immobilized nerve growth factor (NGF), within specially designed mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN). The MSNs were then incorporated into the hydrogel along with carnosine (Car), which further improves the hydrogel's therapeutic properties.

Osteomyelitis is an inflammatory process of bone and bone marrow that may even lead to patient death. Even though this disease is mainly caused by Gram-positive organisms, the proportion of bone infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, has significantly increased in recent years. In this work, mesoporous silica nanoparticles have been employed as platform to engineer a nanomedicine able to eradicate E. coli- related bone infections. For that purpose, the nanoparticles have been loaded with moxifloxacin and further functionalized with Arabic gum and colistin (AG+CO

Gum arabic (GA) is a traditional herbal medicine from Acacia Senegal (L.) Willdenow trees, which consist of a complex mixture of polysaccharides and glycoproteins. It is used in daily applications for several diseases and is considered to protect against bacterial infections. The detailed mechanisms behind these observations are still unclear. In this study, we investigated the direct antibacterial activity of GA water and ethanol extracts against Staphylococcus (S.) aureus or Escherichia (E.) coli and the immunomodulating properties of those extracts on granulocytes as a first line of defense

While Cisplatin remains a cornerstone of oncological intervention, its induction of systemic oxidative stress arranges a deleterious cascade that compromises male reproductive homeostasis. Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) may protect against oxidative stress and capping them with Arab gum (AG) could enhance their therapeutic efficacy. This study investigated the comparative gonadoprotective potential of Selenium Nanoparticles (SeNPs) and Arab gum (AG)-coated SeNPs (AG-SeNPs) against Cis-induced testicular dysfunction. Forty-five male Wistar rats were randomized into nine experimental groups: fou

Cryopreservation is an essential component of assisted reproductive technologies in dogs. However, post-thaw semen quality is often compromised by cryo-induced oxidative stress, membrane disruption, and DNA damage, which ultimately reduce fertility outcomes. Conventional egg yolk (EY)-based extenders provide partial protection during freezing but pose biosecurity rick and exhibit batch-to-batch variability. Gum arabic (GA), a plant-derived polysaccharide with cryoprotective and antioxidant properties, has emerged as a potential alternative. The present study evaluated the comparative efficacy

This study investigates the effects of encapsulated Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis) on liver injury and fibrosis in a cholestatic rat model. Probiotics like B. subtilis have shown anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, but their efficacy is reduced by the harsh gastrointestinal tract (GIT) environment. Some studies have shown that encapsulation using a combination of alginate, Arabic gum, and chitosan can improve probiotic viability and promote controlled release in the intestine. In this study, male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to five groups: healthy control, cholestasis control

Diabetic wounds are a significant clinical challenge. Developing effective antibacterial dressings is crucial for preventing wound ulcers caused by bacterial infections. In this study, a self-healing antibacterial hydrogel (polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-polylysine-gum arabic, PLG hydrogels) with near-infrared photothermal response was prepared by linking PVA and a novel polysaccharide-amino acid compound (PG) through borate bonding combined with freeze-thaw cycling. Subsequently, the hydrogel was modified by incorporating inorganic nanoparticles (modified graphene oxide (GM)). The experimental resul

It is challenging to fabricate oil microcapsules based on plant protein-polysaccharide complex coacervation. This study first systematically characterized the interaction between soy glycinin and gum arabic. It showed that increasing gum arabic/soy glycinin ratio contributed to the formation of hollow coacervates while shifting pH towards the zero charge point facilitated the formation of solid coacervates. Decreasing pH below zero charge point contributed to the formation of microcapsules with well defined core-shell structure. The structure was further fixed by tannic acid crosslinking in th

The process of microencapsulation is used to coat essential oils that are vulnerable to oxidation, dampness, UV light, and high temperatures. It serves to shield the active chemicals from the environment while boosting the core material's controlled release, stability, and solubility. This work used spray and freeze-drying procedures to microencapsulate essential oil extracted from Thymus schimperi (T. schimperi) leaves using hydro distillation. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of gum Arabic as a coating agent on the physicochemical properties of T. schimperi essential

BACKGROUND: Gum arabic, a high-molecular-weight natural polysaccharide, has been shown to have proabsorptive properties in animal models of gastrointestinal disease that involve nitric oxide (NO). Gum arabic may indirectly regulate NO metabolism by creating an outward NO gradient, thus altering other intracellular NO-dependent mechanisms such as gating of the potassium (K+) channel. This hypothesis was further investigated using the K+ channel blocker, glybenclamide.
METHODS: Following intraperitoneal injection of 4.5 mg/kg glybenclamide or saline, the jejunum of anesthetized rats was perfuse

Clove essential oil (C) is poorly water-soluble, which limits its application in aqueous food systems. This study developed a novel strategy to fabricate microcapsules with improved water solubility by pretreating whey protein isolate (WPI) with cold plasma followed by Maillard glycation with gum arabic (GA) prior to complex coacervation and spray drying. Cold plasma pretreatment for 20 s significantly improved the degree of grafting (DG, from 22.14% to 31.92%) and emulsifying activity (from 32.88 m2/g to 52.40 m2/g) of WPI-GA Maillard conjugates (WPI-GAM). The resulting microcapsules exhibite

The stabilization of high internal phase Pickering emulsions (HIPPEs) utilizing biomacromolecules and solid particles as alternatives to surfactants has attracted significant interest from researchers. Therefore, this study investigated the feasibility of whey isolate protein (WPI) and gum arabic (GA) instead of surfactants to stabilize safflower seed oil to prepare O/W HIPPEs. Among the various ratios examined, the WPI:GA ratio of 1:2 demonstrated the smallest particle size of WPI-GA particles, measuring 214.52 ± 7.65 nm. This ratio also exhibited a significant increase in the absolute value

This study investigated the formation formation mechanism of rice glutelin (RG)-gum arabic (GA) complex using multispectral techniques and molecular simulations. RG-GA-perilla oil (PO) emulsions were constructed, and their microstructure, emulsifying, rheological, stability, and digestion properties were systematically evaluated. Turbidity and ζ-potential showed effective RG-GA complexation at pH 3.5, with GA concentration influencing their electrostatic interactions. Multispectral and molecular docking demonstrated that RG and GA interacted through hydrophobic and hydrogen bonding. RG's secon

Strawberry fruits are highly perishable and have a limited shelf life. Therefore, effective methods such as essential oils (EOs) and edible coatings are required to mitigate spoilage and maintain fruit quality during storage. In the current study, Echinophora platyloba EO was extracted and subsequently formulated into a nanoemulsion. The strawberries were then coated using an immersion method with the prepared nanoemulsions, gum Arabic (GA), and Aloe vera gel (AV). The coating treatments included: distilled water control, 5% GA, 20% AV, 0.5% E. platyloba essential oil, 5% GA + 0.5% E. platylob
