BACKGROUND: Teachers experienced increased stressors and stress during the initial onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. While many educators returned to in-person instruction in the 2021-2022 school year, they faced changing job demands and stressors which has important implications for educator well-being. We sought to understand the stressors and health impacts faced by U.S. educators in the 2021-2022 school year, two years following the acute phase of the pandemic.
METHODS: Thirty-four certified educators based in Connecticut, USA participated in four virtual focus groups in February 2022. A se

The introduction of the CanMEDS method to qualify training and ongoing education for healthcare providers in terms of competencies has provided a clear framework for medical schools' curricula. Different roles are outlined, and one of these is health advocacy. Physicians are accountable to society to use their knowledge and expertise to improve health. Even before the introduction of CanMEDS, physicians took responsibility for improving health by tackling issues in society that negatively affected the health of many; one obvious example is the provision of clean water and sewage systems to pre

Some years ago, the phenomenon of demographic aging started an intense debate about its supposed negatives effects on the economic progress of a population. Health advances and improved living conditions have gradually increased the health level the elderly have, embellishing the initial perspectives; the elderly live more years but, moreover, they have a better quality of life. For the WHO, to favor an active aging process presents a challenge, avoiding incapacities and dependencies, the real causes of the increase in social-health costs. Following the guidelines established by the II World A

There is an explicit relationship between knowledge generation, transmission (dissemination and diffusion), knowledge acquisition, and utilization. In order to disseminate and diffuse information for health promotion and disease prevention, there is an assumption that we just need to change the behaviours of people. This paper challenges this notion and suggests that the thinking behind the behaviours (cognition) also needs to be addressed for successful acquisition and utilization of information. Studies focusing on cognition or thought processes and how sociocultural factors influence or int

Health education for children is an important measure in the control of schistosomiasis especially considering the characteristics of the disease during childhood, such as high prevalence, high percent of treatment resistance, high rates of egg elimination and high level of reinfection, as reported in studies conducted in endemic areas. All of these facts indicate that children play a role in the maintenance and transmission of schistosomiasis. Historically in Brazil, Health Education concerning the major Brazilian endemies consists of a kind of vertical, interventionist and temporary action.

Human trematode infections are largely confined to the tropical and oriental countries. Especially schistosomiasis, clonorchiasis, paragonimiasis, heterophydiasis and fasciolopsiasis are great public health problems in certain countries. The control of clonorchiasis, paragonimiasis and intestinal fluke infections theoretically is very simple, as the infection is transmitted to man mostly by eating fish and crabs serving as intermediate hosts and harbouring metacercariae. It is different with schistosomiasis where, by contact with contaminated water, man gets infected with cercarial larvae pene

This article presents a review of research in dental health education and health promotion. In the period 1982 to 1992, a total of 57 studies evaluating the effectiveness of interventions to alter individuals' behavior related to dental health were identified. Combining the results of these 57 studies with descriptive articles published over the same period, it appears that dental health education can result in improvements in objective measures of dental health behaviors and actual oral health measures, but has only limited success in changing attitudes towards dental issues and achieves only

Medical matters were popularized in the eighteenth century on three main levels: the Moral Weeklies were directed at the educated public; there were various publications designed to instruct the masses; and the rural population and the young were reached by means of the catechisms of health. The latter (the subject of the present study) were works of a simplified and self-instructive character aimed at a lay readership, and developed out of such popularizing compendia as Tissot's Avis au peuple sur la santé (1761). Whereas the earlier catechistical approaches to popular knowledge retained some

Over the past three decades Canada has developed an exemplary system of universal health care. However, current financial constraints threaten to undermine the very foundation of the system that represents Canada's respect for social justice. The first of these two articles (Part 1) discusses the unique characteristics of the system, a comparative view of universal health care systems, the reaction of the medical profession to governmental control, and finally the funding and manpower shortages that are compelling a review of the values and organization that have sustained the system thus far.

INTRODUCTION: This article analyzes the presence and induction of Permanent Health Education (PHE) in Health Economics (HE) within the official documents of the Department of Health Economics and Development (DESID) of Brazil's Ministry of Health (MoH).
METHODS: This is an exploratory and descriptive qualitative study, grounded in the document analysis of 126 records categorized according to the elements proposed by Williams and content analysis based on Bardin's method (2016).
RESULTS: The findings revealed a lack of programmatic, budgetary, and strategic guidelines specifically aimed at PH

A prospective community-based intervention study was conducted in a slum area of Karachi, Pakistan, with the objective of evaluating the impact of health education on the knowledge of mothers. One hundred and fifty households were studied in the intervention and the same in the non-intervention group. The post intervention knowledge scores of the mothers showed a significant difference of P < 0.05. Nearly 50.7% mothers in the intervention group knew of at least four diseases against which vaccination is given as compared to the non-intervention group (P < 0.05). Similarly, mothers in the inter

Often recognised as a determinant of health and key to health communication, education is an underdeveloped concept in global health. This paper develops a conceptual understanding of how educational processes shape engagement with global health challenges, particularly their role in promoting health equity, capability and sustainability. Using antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as an illustrative case, the paper examines how education shapes understandings of health challenges, supports capability development and enables engagement with health governance. Methodologically, the paper adopts an int

OBJECTIVES: Health educators are increasingly being used to deliver preventive care including screening and brief intervention (SBI) for unhealthy substance use (SU) (alcohol or drug). There are few data, however, about the "handoff" of information from health educator to primary care clinician (PCC). Among patients identified with unhealthy SU and counseled by health educators, the objective of this study was to examine (1) the proportion of PCC notes with documentation of SBI and (2) the spectrum of SU not documented by PCCs.
METHODS: Before the PCC-patient encounter, health educators scree

OBJECTIVE: To systematically synthesize evidence on the personal competency of tuberculosis (TB) health educators and to develop a scientifically robust and comprehensive evaluation indicator system.
METHODS: A two-phase mixed-methods design was employed. Phase 1 involved a scoping review of seven databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, CINAHL, ERIC, and the Cochrane Library) to identify competency-related literature on TB health educators, with no restrictions on publication date, language, or geographic setting. Extracted competency elements were synthesized into a prelim

Mental health nursing requires specialised training in therapeutic communication and related soft skills. Innovative, digitally enhanced strategies may support competency development, particularly amid clinical placement shortages. This article outlines insights from a scoping review of technology use in undergraduate mental health nursing education. The objectives were to (a) explore the impact of using these technologies in students' experience and (b) develop insights that can contribute to the development of a curriculum that embed innovative educational technology with strong theoretical
