Spinal cavernous and capillary hemangiomas in adults.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort analysis. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the neurological outcomes after resection of intramedullary, intradural extramedullary, and extradural hemangiomas. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Spinal hemangiomas most commonly arise in the vertebral bodies and are typically asymptomatic. Uncommonly, hemangiomas may cause significant neurological deficits via extraosseous extension. Intramedullary hemangiomas may also occur and account for approximately 5% of all spinal cord lesions, with those located intradural extramedullary occurring rarely. Although retrospective studie

A rare neoplasm of the testis: capillary hemangioma.

Intratesticular vascular neoplasms are extremely rare tumors and mostly seen in children or young adults. We reported a case of capillary hemangioma of the testis to attract attention to testicular hemangioma and also to prevent invasive surgery of the testis. The patient was an 18-year-old boy with a testicular mass. Scrotal sonography revealed a varicocele in the left testis and a simple cyst in the left epididymis. There was a solid hypoechoic neoplastic area 75 mm in diameter in the right testis. The laboratory findings including tumor markers and serum levels of alpha-fetoprotein and beta

Aortic coarctation in the presence of capillary hemangioma.

We report posterior mediastinal hemangioma in a 14-year-old girl patient with an extensive hemangioma encompassing the thoracic aorta, associated with complex coarctation. The masses were identified by contrast-enhanced computed tomography. An extra-anatomical bypass was made by grafting from the ascending to the distal descending aorta. Histological evaluation of the surgical specimens established the final diagnosis. Presence of mediastinal hemangiomas should be regarded as an important differential diagnosis of coarctation of aorta, although these are very rare tumors.

Therapeutic Dilemma of a Juxtapapillary Retinal Capillary Hemangioma.

A juxtapapillary retinal capillary hemangioma (JRCH) is a rare vascular hamartoma located on the optic nerve head or adjacent region. While often associated with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease, JRCHs can also occur as an isolated condition, presenting unique therapeutic challenges and risks of visual impairment. We report a case of a 50-year-old Malay gentleman with diabetes mellitus who presented with a non-progressive superior visual field defect in his left eye for three months. Fundus examination revealed a raised reddish mass adjacent to the nasal optic disc, accompanied by macular exuda

Intravenous Lobular Capillary Hemangioma in the Subclavian Vein.

We report the case of a 73-year-old man with severe edema of the right upper extremity. Computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and venography revealed an intravenous tumor in the middle portion of the right subclavian vein. The tumor was completely resected, and an accompanying thrombus was also removed using the transmanubrial osteomuscular sparing approach. The patient recovered well without any complications or recurrence. The histopathologic diagnosis was intravenous lobular capillary hemangioma, which is also called pyogenic granuloma. To our knowledge, this is the first reporte

Intravascular Lobular Capillary Hemangioma in the Corpus Spongiosum.

Lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH) or pyogenic granuloma is a very common benign vascular tumor. However, its etiology still remains unknown. This tumor classically arises from epithelium-lined tissue, such as skin and mucosa, but subcutaneous and intravenous variants have also been described. Intravenous LCH usually arises within the lumen of large caliber veins, but other intravascular examples have been reported in association with vascular malformations, namely port-wine stains and arteriovenous fistulas. A 54-year-old man presented after the sudden appearance of a subcutaneous nodule on h

Intracranial capillary hemangioma: a description of four cases.

OBJECTIVE: Capillary hemangiomas are benign vascular lesions involving the skin and soft tissues that commonly occur at birth or an early age. Intracranial capillary hemangiomas are extremely rare; only 14 cases have been reported the literature. CASE DESCRIPTION: We describe four patients with capillary hemangiomas. In two of these patients the lesions arose from the cavernous sinus. In the third patient, a large capillary hemangioma arising from the middle cranial fossa extended into the infratemporal fossa. The fourth patient had a left hemorrhagic temporoparietal capillary hemangioma. RE

Clinical review of periorbital capillary hemangioma of infancy.

PURPOSE: To explore the role of intralesional steroid injections (ILSI) and oral steroids in the management of periocular hemangioma of infancy (HOI). METHODS: In this retrospective study, treatment options studied were observation, ILSI, and oral steroids. All children received adjunctive amblyopia treatment if required. The main indications for treatment were cosmetic, worsening astigmatism, and visual axis obscuration. Success was defined as complete HOI regression before the age of 5 years (cosmetic group), reduction of astigmatism of at least 1 diopter cylinder (DC) (astigmatism group),

Capillary hemangioma or pyogenic granuloma: A diagnostic dilemma.

Pyogenic granulomas and hemangiomas of oral cavity are well-known benign lesions. Although pyogenic granuloma is known to show a striking predilection for the gingiva and capillary hemangioma for lips, check, and tongue, palatal occurrence of these lesions is extremely rare. The clinical diagnosis of such an uncommon occurrence can be quite challenging as they sometimes may mimic more serious lesions such as malignancies. The purpose of this article is to report an unusual case of benign tumor occurring on hard palate which was clinically diagnosed as pyogenic granuloma and histopathologically

Intravenous pyogenic granuloma or intravenous lobular capillary hemangioma.

Lobular capillary hemangioma is a vascular neoplasm that commonly occurs as a cutaneous tumor. When it involves the skin and mucosal surfaces, ulceration and suppuration may occur, hence the classic term of pyogenic granuloma. Intravenous pyogenic granuloma is a rare solitary form of lobular capillary hemangioma that usually occurs in the veins of the neck and upper extremities. We report the ultrasonographic and magnetic resonance imaging findings of a pyogenic intravenous granuloma localized in the right cephalic vein. The imaging and pathological findings and the differential diagnoses are

Microphthalmos, facial capillary hemangioma and Dandy-Walker malformation.

We present a 6-month-old girl with the unusual combination of microphthalmos, facial capillary hemangioma and Dandy-Walker malformation. This is the fourth case with such an association reported in the literature. On the basis of the experience with our patient and with those previously reported, we stress the importance of performing brain-imaging studies on all infants with large facial hemangiomas, or if unusual ophthalmic findings are present.

Capillary hemangioma in the cauda equina: neuroradiological findings.

A case of capillary hemangioma of the cauda equina is reported. Myelography with water-soluble contrast material showed a complete obstruction of the contrast column at the L1-L2 level. Neither plain nor intravenously enhanced CT revealed the tumor. Spinal angiography showed a feeding vessel to the tumor and a faint tumor stain. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a mass lesion of slightly higher than cauda equina intensity, which was clearly enhanced with Gd-DTPA. MRI, especially Gd-DTPA-enhanced study, plays the most important role in the diagnosis of a spinal capillary hemangioma. Spina

Intraoral lobular capillary hemangioma in the esthetic zone.

Lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH), previously known as pyogenic granuloma, is a benign vascular lesion commonly affecting the oral cavity. Despite its misleading name, LCH represents a reactive hyperplastic proliferation of capillaries, often triggered by local irritation or hormonal changes. A 30-year-old male presented with a painless, fibrous, pedunculated swelling between the maxillary central incisors, causing pathological tooth migration and difficulty in mastication. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed no bony involvement, and a provisional diagnosis of LCH was made. The les

Capillary Hemangioma in Joubert Syndrome: A Case Report.

A baby girl who underwent cesarean section delivery and had a complicated postnatal course requiring neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is followed in the pediatrics clinic for several months. At five months old, the baby girl was referred to an ophthalmology clinic with brain stem and cerebellum malformation consistent with the molar tooth sign (MTS) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain, hypotonia, and developmental delay. She has the classic features of Joubert Syndrome (JS). Other findings not typically associated with the clinical picture of the syndrome were observed in this

Pediatric intranasal lobular capillary hemangioma: A case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH) is a benign vascular lesion typically affecting the head and neck region, especially the nasal cavity. However, its occurrence in the nasal cavity of the pediatric population is rare, making its diagnosis and management crucial in such cases. CASE PRESENTATION: A 7-year-old female presented with left-sided nasal obstruction and recurrent epistaxis for 4 months. Examination revealed a dark purplish-red nasal mass, which bled easily upon probing. CT scans showed a soft tissue lesion with post-contrast enhancement. Histopathological
