Spontaneous spinal subdural hemorrhage is a rare clinical problem that usually manifests with a sudden onset of pain and paralysis. This article reports on an 18-year-old male with hemophilia A and cerebral palsy, who experienced a several month history of transient back, hip, and leg pain accompanied by gait difficulties that ultimately culminated in a more striking episode of lower extremity weakness, irritability, and diffuse pain involving the neck, back, and legs. In the absence of any clinical or radiographic evidence of hemarthrosis, osteomyelitis, or intracranial hemorrhage, imaging of

RATIONALE: The co-occurrence of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) and spinal subdural hematoma (SSDH) is exceptionally rare, with ambiguous pathogenesis complicating management. This case aims to enhance understanding of its clinical trajectory, particularly the risk of intracranial progression after spinal surgery, which is critical for optimizing patient outcomes.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 45-year-old woman presented with 3 days of severe lumbocrural pain and a 3-week history of headache after head trauma. She also reported 5 days of bowel dysfunction.
DIAGNOSES: Lumbar magnetic resonance imaging

Intracranial subdural haematoma is a rare but serious complication of spinal anesthesia in obstetric patients undergoing Cesarean Delivery (CD). In this case series, we analyzed 3 patients who developed acute intracranial subdural hematoma following spinal anesthesia for CD. Clinical presentation with headache of 3-4 weeks duration that worsened over 2-3 days prior to admission for neurosurgical intervention was evident in all the patients. Brain CT-Scan was the imaging modality used to confirm the diagnosis of acute intracranial subdural hematoma in all of them, and Burr hole was done to evac

Patients with ankylosing spondylitis are at high risk of significant spinal trauma after relatively low-impact events, such as ground-level falls. Because of the osteopenic nature of the disease process, complex spinal fractures are common in these patients. Additionally, patients may sustain rare traumatic complications from these fractures, such as a spinal subdural hematoma (SSDH) or epidural hematoma. Traumatic SSDH is extremely rare, with few cases described in the literature, and cases are typically associated with antiplatelet or anticoagulant use. This study reviews the literature rela

Intracranial subdural hematoma is a serious complication of spinal anesthesia. We report the case of a 31-year-old woman who presented with headache and neurologic localizing signs after spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery. She was subsequently diagnosed with a right temporoparietal subdural hematoma. The hematoma was evacuated, and she had good recovery.

BACKGROUND: Primary central nervous system vasculitis (PCNSV) is a rare and poorly described vascular inflammatory condition confined within the central nervous system (CNS). Typical presentations of PCNSV include headache, hemiparesis, cerebral edema, and altered cognition. Vasculitic processes in the spinal cord are exceedingly rare. Although intracranial vasculitis has been associated with certain systemic inflammatory disorders and lymphomas, the etiology of spinal cord vasculitis is unclear. We report the first case of a patient in whom spinal subdural hematomas were the first presenting

A 15-year-old boy developed back pain and sciatica after a minor trauma. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed lumbar spinal subdural hematoma. After repeated lumbar spinal puncture and drainage of hemorrhagic fluid, spinal subdural hematoma was resolved completely. The benefits of conservative treatment by lumbar spinal puncture are discussed.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a rare syndrome of transient, reversible left ventricular systolic dysfunction. It mimics myocardial infarction clinically and includes elevated cardiac enzymes, but echocardiography reveals apical ballooning and basal hyperkinesis. Infrequently, midventricular or even reverse Takotsubo patterns have been described, involving ballooning of the basal heart without the characteristic 'Takotsubo' appearance. There are cases in the literature that support a connection between reverse Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (r-TTC) and neurological insults as inciting factors. We repor

Acute spinal cord compression usually results from trauma, infection, or cancer. Spinal subdural hematoma is an uncommon cause of spinal cord compression that occurs after spine trauma or spinal invasive procedure, especially in context of coagulopathy. In the following reported case, an 82-year-old woman with a history of rapidly progressive paraparesis after a sudden middle back pain, with no previous trauma or coagulopathy, due to an acute spontaneous spinal subdural hematoma. In fact, the main difficulty was to determine, in an emergency situation, the right strategy to identify both the l

BACKGROUND: To the best of our knowledge, there are 20 cases of idiopathic subdural hematoma (SDH), with only 1 case of idiopathic SDH located in the cervical region. We report a case of idiopathic spinal SDH and review the literature on this disease.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 43-year-old man experienced sudden onset of continuous, needle-like neck pain for 3 days with paresthesias and paraplegia. He denied any history of trauma, had no family history of bleeding diathesis, and was not on anticoagulation therapy. Hematologic investigations, liver function tests, and coagulation profile all were wit

Spinal subdural hematoma (SSDH) is characterized by sudden onset neck and/or back pain, dysuria, and extremity impairment. The use of anticoagulants is a significant risk factor for SSDH, indicating that early diagnosis is crucial. However, achieving a timely diagnosis can be difficult owing to the rarity of this condition. The first forensic autopsy of a patient who died as the result of a spinal subdural hematoma (SSDH) is presented. A woman in her 70s undergoing anticoagulant therapy was transported to the emergency room with headache, back pain, and lower limb paralysis. The patient was in

BACKGROUND: Intraspinal bleeding especially in the form of subdural hematoma is rare in hemophiliacs. In the present case, we report a neglected hemophilic A child with such a problem and discuss its management options. CASE PRESENTATION: A 9-year old hemophilic A boy presented with quadriparesis, confusion and meningismus after a fall 4 days previously. There was no sign of direct trauma to his back. His CT Scan and MRI showed spinal extramedullary hematoma extended from C5 to L2. We corrected the factor VIII level, but two days later, the patient's lower limbs weakened to 1/5 proximally as w

A case of acute spinal subdural hematoma is reported in a 24-year-old woman. Presentation occurred in the postpartum period, 4 days following epidural anesthesia. Emergency decompressive laminectomy attained partial recovery. Subsequent pathology demonstrated evidence of a low-grade ependymoma. Reported cases of spinal subdural hematomas are reviewed and compared with the characteristics of this unique case.

This case demonstrates that meticulous physical examination and optimized computed tomography (CT) windowing are crucial for diagnosing spinal subdural hematoma (SSH) when it mimics stroke. We present a 43-year-old man with a stroke-like onset of unilateral leg weakness that progressed to paraplegia. While a sensory level at T4 strongly suggested a spinal cord lesion, a standard trunk CT was initially interpreted as normal. The diagnosis of a C7-T4 SSH was ultimately established by re-reviewing the CT using brain window settings and was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. Despite emergent

Cerebrospinal fluid drainage is recommended for high-risk patients to prevent spinal cord ischemia during aortic surgery; however, it is associated with complications. We report a case of a late-onset spinal subdural hematoma that developed after removal of the cerebrospinal fluid drainage tube from a patient who undergon thoracic endovascular aortic repair. Spinal hematoma usually develop 2 to 3 days after tube removal; however, in our patient's case, it developed after 7 days. Therefore, a spinal subdural hematoma can occur ≤1 week after drainage tube removal, necessitating prompt magnetic r

The aim of this study was to assess the epidural and subdural hematoma following spinal anesthesia in infants' rat model. We investigated during 10, 15, and 20 days' rats in group 1: intrathecal injection of bupivacaine 3.75 mg/kg (n = 7); group 2: received 37.5 μl midazolam 0.1% intrathecal with 37.5μl fentanyl 0.005% (no=7); injected into group 3 methylene blue 1 mg/ml (No. 7). Rats were exposed to spinal anesthesia in infancy and rotarod in motor function in adulthood. Histological evaluation and tissue extraction were also performed after the treatment and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

A spinal subdural hematoma is a rare clinical entity and an uncommon urgent complication that can be associated with the use of vitamin K and less commonly nonvitamin K oral anticoagulants. It is considered a neurological emergency requiring prompt diagnosis and surgical intervention in the majority of the cases. Herein, we present an 84-year-old male patient with a history of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation on apixaban who presented with complaints of bilateral lower extremity weakness, severe back pain, and urinary retention. His lumbar and thoracic spine images showed a diffuse spinal subdu

To report a case of acute intracranial subdural hematoma, pneumocephalus, and pneumorachis, which occurred because of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak caused by a malpositioned transpedicular screw during spinal surgery for severe myelodysplastic scoliosis accompanied with hydrocephalus. Intracranial hemorrhage may occur as a consequence of dural sac penetration and CSF leakage after various medical procedures at the spinal level. The awareness of this severe complication is especially important during spinal instrumentation procedures in which inadvertent dural sac violation and CSF loss may be

Intracranial subdural hematoma is a rare, but well-described complication of epidural and spinal anesthesia, as documented by more than a decade of publications. Non-postural headache and vomiting are warning signs. A headache lasting more than 5 days should arouse suspicion of intracranial hemorrhage, whether or not it is associated with the appearance of neurological signs or the deterioration of neurological status. Urgent cranial computed tomography can confirm the diagnosis of subdural hematoma, which has the potential to cause a dramatic cerebral herniation syndrome. A combination of spi
