Apocrine adenocarcinoma in the setting of apocrine hidrocystoma of the leg.

Apocrine hidrocystoma is a benign, cystic lesion often presenting in the periorbital region. Apocrine adenocarcinoma is the rare, malignant counterpart occurring mainly in the axilla and anogenital region. There is a paucity of literature on both entities and co-occurrence has been reported in only 5 cases. We present the case of a 48-year-old man with a history of total body irradiation for chronic myelocytic leukemia, diabetes mellitus, and obesity who presented with a calf mass of two years' duration. Epidermal inclusion cyst was presumed and excisional biopsy was carried out. Pathologic an…

[Apocrine hidrocystoma associated with gouty tophi of the pinna].

BACKGROUND: Apocrine hidrocystomas, also known as apocrine cystadenomas, are bening cystic tumours derived from the secretory portion of apocrine sweat glands. CLINICAL CASE: A 78-year old female was referred to our division for assesment an asymptomatic translucent, well-defined cystic lesion located on the upper helix. The histological features were consistent with apocrine hidrocystoma coexisting with gouty tophi. CONCLUSIONS: We report the second case of apocrine hydrocystoma located in the pinna, outside of ear canal and the first case of its association with gouty tophi described. It i…

A case of an apocrine hidrocystoma treated by sublabial approach.

Apocrine hidrocystomas are uncommon cystic proliferations of the apocrine secretory glands. Maxilla is an unexpected involvement site for these tumors. Our study represents the first case of an apocrine hidrocystoma of the maxilla excised by an intraoral (sublabial) approach, being the first to define the radiologic findings of apocrine hidrocystoma on this region. This case is an extremely rare type in terms of the unusual symptomatology, location and size of the tumor. In this article, clinical presentation, surgical findings, histopathological features and treatment of this rare lesion were…

Multiple apocrine hidrocystomas: a confusing clinical diagnosis.

This is a case report followed by a short review of literature of apocrine hidrocystomas. A 67 year old lady came to this clinic with multiple translucent, asymptomatic papulocystic lesions on the face which got worse in summer. A biopsy showed a single cystic cavity lined by two layers of small cuboial epithelial cells was seen. Apocrine differentiation characterised by decapitation secretion was seen. A diagnosis of multiple apocrine hidrocystomas was made. Treatment can be attempted with individual excision of lesions or lasers. Topical atropine and scopolamine too have been tried with vari…

Hidrocystoma: surgical management of cystic lesions of the eyelid.

This report describes the case of a hidrocystoma of the eyelid and the surgical technique used in the therapeutical management of benign cystic lesions of the eyelids. Hidrocystomas are relatively common benign lesions of the eyelids, principally the lower eyelid. They are more common in females over thirty years of age. Diagnosis is clinical and when there is a single lesion, surgery is the treatment of choice. The surgical technique used should be described in greater detail, since it offers good esthetic results and a low risk of recurrence.

S-100 protein-positive cells in hidrocystomas.

The histogenesis of hidrocystomas was examined by the use of immunostaining for S-100 protein. In normal sweat glands, S-100 protein was found exclusively in the secretory cells of eccrine glands, whereas this protein was not present in the other parts of eccrine glands or at any levels of the structure of apocrine glands. On the bases of this immunostaining pattern in normal sweat glands, we attempted to correlate the origin of 8 cases of hidrocystoma to the presence of S-100 protein-positive cells. S-100 protein was detected in the cells of one solitary eccrine hidrocystoma, but not in those…

Eccrine hidrocystomas presenting as multiple papules on the cheeks.

Hidrocystomas are common, benign adnexal neoplasms most frequently found on the eyelids, canthi, or periocular areas. Herein, we report a case of multiple hidrocystomas distributed over less common facial areas: cheeks and cutaneous lips.

Hidrocystoma of the external auditory canal: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Apocrine hydrocystomas arising in the external auditory canal are very rare. In this report a clinical case of apocrine hydrocys … cision and the surgical specimen was sent for histopathologic examination. CONCLUSION: An apocrine hidrocystoma inside the auricular canal is uncommon. It can cause recurrent external otitis and conductive hearing loss and should be treated with wide local excision and reconstruction of the external auditory canal for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
