INTRODUCTION: In idiopathic scoliosis, the psychological and social effects of bracing can be difficult, thus clinicians sometimes recommend a brace holiday when the curve drops below 25°. While the Scoliosis Research Society has reached a consensus on bracing indications and duration, there is little evidence regarding outcomes from taking a break from bracing prior to skeletal maturity. BACKGROUND: Cannabis use has been linked to impaired driving and fatal accidents. Prior evidence suggests the potential for population-wide effects of the annual cannabis celebration on April 20th ('4/20'), but evidence to date is limited.
METHODS: We used data from the Fatal Analysis Reporting System for the years 1975-2016 to estimate the impact of '4/20' on drivers involved in fatal traffic crashes occurring between 16:20 and 23:59 hours in the USA. We compared the effects of 4/20 with those for other major holidays, and evaluated whether the impact of '4/20' had changed in recent years.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe and characterise spinal fractures sustained by watercraft occupants due to splashdown of light watercraft when riding over uneven water surfaces.

In April 1995 an outbreak of cryptosporidiosis occurred among 43 schoolchildren and four staff after a week's holiday at a rural farm. A retrospective cohort study found illness to be 3.8 times more likely in those who handled calves and 1.5 times more likely in those who habitually bit their nails or sucked their thumbs. Cryptosporidium oocysts were detected in faecal specimens from six of the 29 pupils and one of the four staff who were ill. Infection occurred in children despite supervised handwashing. INTRODUCTION: School holidays are a known period of increased risk of paediatric drowning. However, the risk of coastal death for all age groups is unknown.
METHODS: This case-control study aimed to identify high-risk demographics and behaviours relating to coastal deaths during the school holidays. We address this knowledge gap by comparing unintentional coastal deaths (drowning deaths and other coastal fatalities) in Australia between 1 July 2004-30 June 2021 to a survey sample representative of the Australian population.

Bisphosphonates (BPs) are commonly used in the treatment of osteoporosis and are effective in the prevention of fragility fracture. Long-term use has been associated with the development of atypical femur fractures (AFFs) and osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). AIM: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of sunlight during summer holidays and to assess the seasonability of atopic dermatitis in 43 consecutive patients with mild-moderate atopic dermatitis referring to the Pediatric Outpatient Clinic of the University of Bologna.

BACKGROUND: Bisphosphonates and denosumab are used extensively in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Despite their proven efficacy in the reduction of vertebral and non-vertebral fractures, their optimal duration of use has not been determined. Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common arrhythmias in the adult population, in children, however, only a few case reports of isolated atrial fibrillation exist.1 Aside from post-operative AF due to atrial scar formation or suture lines and atrial enlargement in CHD (e.g., mitral stenosis), alcohol consumption represents a rare cause of AF in adolescents. This is a novel case report of a 44-year-old woman who presented to the emergency department with epigastric pain wrapping around to her back. She had no risk factors for cardiac disease, but her initial electrocardiogram (ECG) showed a Wellens syndrome pattern and she was taken urgently to the catheterization lab. After a negative catheterization, she underwent cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, which was positive for Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC). Ultimately, abdominal computed tomography revealed that she had cholecystitis, which likely was the cause of her TC and ECG changes.
