Prolonged intermittent hydrotherapy and early tangential excision in the treatment of an extensive strong alkali burn.

It is well known that the first step in the treatment of cutaneous strong alkali burn is very early and persistent washing of the site of injury with large volumes of water. However, ideal duration and the technique of hydrotherapy has not yet been established. Besides hydrotherapy, tangential excision of the injured skin might prevent further tissue damage if it is performed early enough. We report the treatment of a 36-year-old male who sustained 53% body surface area (BSA) cutaneous burn due to caustic soda (NaOH). Prolonged intermittent hydrotherapy, early tangential excision and autograft

Ozone Hydrotherapy Improves Seborrheic Dermatitis by Regulating Scalp Microbiome and Mitochondrial Lactate Shuttle in Keratinocytes.

BACKGROUND: Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is characterized by limited therapeutic options and high recurrence rates, and the efficacy and mechanism of ozone hydrotherapy for SD remain unclear, especially its potential role in regulating metabolic pathways of keratinocytes. METHODS: We performed a single-arm, open-label, self-controlled before-and-after study of ozone hydrotherapy in 24 SD patients, evaluating clinical symptoms and analyzing scalp microbiome. A Malassezia-induced guinea pig model of SD-like lesions and a Malassezia-infected HaCaT cell model were used to explore barrier repair, an

Hydrotherapy in the Rehabilitation of Functional Performance and Gait in Knee Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Background and Objectives: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a degenerative joint disease that affects quality of life through pain, impaired functional performance, and altered gait patterns. Hydrotherapy is a well-tolerated form of physical rehabilitation, especially suitable for patients with severe pain, as water's properties support movement while reducing joint load. Its effects have been widely studied, primarily focusing on patient-reported outcomes, with limited synthesis of functional performance and gait-related outcomes. Materials and Methods: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed

Case Report: Acute hydrotherapy with super-saturated hydrogen-rich water for ankle sprain in a professional athlete.

Background: The traditional treatment of soft tissue injuries consists of the RICE protocol - rest, ice, compression, and elevation, followed for up to 72 hours after a trauma. Although designed as an immediate therapy to reduce inflammation that occurs after an acute injury, the RICE protcol might not be the best way to promote healing due to limiting blood flow. Molecular hydrogen (H 2) has recently been put forward as a possible adjuvant treatment in musculoskeletal medicine, yet limited data are available concerning its effectiveness as a first-aid intervention. Case report: We report here

The glamor of and insights regarding hydrotherapy, from simple immersion to advanced computer-assisted exercises: A narrative review.

Water-based therapy has been gaining attention in recent years and is being widely used in clinical settings. Hydrotherapy is the most important area of water-based therapy, and it has distinct advantages and characteristics compared to conventional land-based exercises. Several new techniques and pieces of equipment are currently emerging with advances in computer technologies. However, comprehensive reviews of hydrotherapy are insufficient. Hence, this study reviewed the status quo, mechanisms, adverse events and contraindications, and future prospects of the use of hydrotherapy. This study

Common hydrotherapy practices and the prevalence of burn wound bacterial colonisation at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia.

BACKGROUND: In many parts of the world, hydrotherapy plays an important role in the management of patients with wounds including burns. Different centers practice hydrotherapy differently. At the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia, burn patients use a common bathtub for cleaning their wounds which theoretically increases the risk of cross-infection, an important source of morbidity and mortality. There is currently no evidence that hydrotherapy as practiced at our institution leads to cross infection among patients with burns. OBJECTIVE: The objective was to determine if our hydro
