Orthopaedic and orthodontic treatment with hyrax, Class III elastics on mandibular miniplates, maxillary mini-implants in a Class III adolescent: A case report.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of Skeletal Class III malocclusion continues to be considered as one of the biggest challenges in orthodontics as the success of its correction is largely unpredictable. Early diagnosis and treatment are highly recommended to eliminate primary etiological factors and prevent an increase in severity of the existing malocclusion. However, if the diagnosis is delayed until adulthood, treatment becomes restricted to orthognathic surgery due to limited or no remaining growth potential left. The inherent risks involved with the surgical procedures often preclude the patient

Treatment of Class III malocclusion using Hybrid Hyrax, Face Mask and Alt-RAMEC Protocol: A Case Report in a Latin-American patient.

The management of Class III malocclusion is one of the greatest challenges of orthodontics. Current treatments offer the possibility of using direct skeletal anchorage to improve clinical outcomes. This case shows the results of using a Hyrax hybrid palatal anchorage, Alt-RAMEC (Alternate Rapid Maxillary Expansion and Contraction protocol) and a facemask to treat a maxillary hypoplasia Class III malocclusion in a Latin-American patient. The appliance design and the protocol used are widely described. Clinical and cephalometric results suggest that it is a good treatment option for this Latino

The gastrointestinal tract of the rock hyrax (Procavia habessinica). 2. Fluid flow, production of short chain fatty acids and absorption of water and electrolytes.

In the digestive tract of the rock hyrax (Procavia habessinica), water is absorbed from the small intestine and from the wider part of the connecting colon running between the caecum and the colonic sac. Only little water absorption occurs from these two fermenting chambers. The outflow from the caecum is much higher than from the colonic sac mainly due to the effective absorption in the connecting colon with its very large absorptive area. A significant lower osmolality was found in the caecal contents compared with the contents in the colonic sac. The Na/K ratio was 10.7 and 1.7, respectivel

Three-dimensional skeletal and dental effects of the Haas vs. hyrax type expanders in adolescent rapid maxillary expansion : Systematic review and meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: The three-dimensional dentoskeletal effects of Haas versus hyrax rapid maxillary expanders (RMEs) in adolescents with maxillary transverse deficiency remain uncertain. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare their short-term skeletal and dental outcomes using three-dimensional measurements. Additionally, uncontrolled Haas studies were descriptively synthesized to contextualize within-group changes. METHODS: Electronic searches (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane, China National Knowledge Infrastructure) up to January 2025 identified eligible clinical studi

Long-term three-dimensional skeletal effects of hybrid hyrax with facemask versus mentoplate in growing Class III patients: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Early intervention in Class III malocclusion aims to prevent the need for surgery in adulthood by enhancing upper jaw growth while limiting lower jaw development. Although traditional facemask treatment remain common, bone-anchored devices are increasingly used, claiming better skeletal control and patient compliance. However, strong evidence supporting these advantages is limited. METHODS: Single-center, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial with 1:1 allocation ratio. PARTICIPANTS: 28 growing Class III patients (mean age 9.7 ± 1.3 years) in mixed dentition with skeletal cl

A Novel Minimally Invasive Technique of Using Tooth-Borne Hyrax Expansion Screw for Distraction Osteogenesis of Large Alveolar Cleft Defects (HYDIS-TB).

Because of the high failure rates, large alveolar cleft defects cannot be successfully closed with bone grafting. Vega introduced the use of the hyrax screw for the closure of such defects by distraction osteogenesis. However, his technique was more invasive with a difficult adaptation of the appliance at the surgical table. To overcome these limitations, a completely tooth-borne trifocal distraction appliance was devised and placed after osteotomy in a 22-year-old repaired group 3 cleft patient who had a 15-mm alveolar defect on the right side. The tooth-borne trifocal distraction appliance w

Application of ovine luteinizing hormone (LH) radioimmunoassay in the quantitation of LH in different mammalian species.

A sensitive double antibody radioimmunoassay has been developed for measuring luteinizing hormone (LH) in various African mammalian species, using rabbit anti-ovine LH serum (GDN 15) and radioiodinated rat LH or ovine LH. Serum and pituitary homogenates from some African mammals (hyrax, reedbuck, sable, impala, tsessebe, thar, spring-hare, ground squirrel and cheetah, as well as the domestic sheep, cow and horse and laboratory rat and hamster) produced displacement curves parallel to that of the ovine LH standards. The specificity of the assay was examined in detail for one species, the rock h
