OBJECTIVE/HYPOTHESIS: To test the hypotheses that 1) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided biopsy and aspiration with an open 0.2-T system (Magnetom Open, Siemens, Erlangen, Germany) in the head and neck is feasible and successful and 2) procedure times can be sufficiently short to be well tolerated by the patient.
METHODS: Sixty-one MRI-guided procedures were performed in 47 patients (ages, 6 mo-88 y) in the head and neck, including the mucosal sites and masticator and parapharyngeal spaces (n = 23), parotid space (n = 6), submandibular space (n = 2), cervical vertebral column/paraspinal t

PURPOSE: Several factors influence the microbiological yield of image-guided biopsy for spondylodiscitis, yet the impact of prior antibiotic exposure remains controversial. Evidence on the effect of antibiotic interruption duration is limited and inconsistent. Although the 2015 Infectious Diseases Society of America guidelines suggest withholding antibiotics before biopsy when feasible, supporting evidence remains insufficient. In this study, we aimed to identify the predictors of microbiological yield, focusing on prior antibiotic exposure and interruption duration.
METHODS: We retrospective

OBJECTIVE: Lobular intraepithelial neoplasia (LIN) diagnosed on image-guided biopsy may be associated with an undiagnosed cancer. This is called under-diagnosis. The consequence is that management of these lesions is often surgical. But many surgeries finally are unnecessary. The aim of our study was to define criteria to avoid unnecessary surgery.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a single-center, retrospective after a database collected prospectively study. Fourteen thousand biopsies were analyzed, including 456 diagnosed NLI. Under-diagnosis rates were analyzed according to many criteria. The

It is commonly admitted that the diagnosis of lymphomas can be assessed by the image-guided needle biopsy (IGNB) of deep lymph nodes. However, when peripheral lymph nodes are present, surgical dissection remains the standard strategy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic yield of IGNB of peripheral lymph nodes in patients with suspected lymphomas. The records of 180 multisampling IGNBs of peripheral lymph nodes in 180 patients were reviewed. One hundred and twenty-three IGNBs were observed at first diagnosis and 57 at progression using large-cutting core-biopsy needles ranging

PURPOSE: Image-guided transthoracic core needle biopsy (CNB) is a minimally invasive method widely used for diagnosing thoracic lesions. While its effectiveness and safety are well established in adults, data on its performance in pediatric populations are limited, necessitating further evaluation. This study aimed to assess the efficacy, diagnostic performance, and safety of image-guided transthoracic CNB in children with thoracic lesions.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on 40 pediatric patients who underwent image-guided transthoracic CNB between May 2011 and Janua

PURPOSE: Men diagnosed with atypical small acinar proliferation are counseled to undergo early rebiopsy because the risk of prostate cancer is high. However, random rebiopsies may not resample areas of concern. Magnetic resonance imaging/transrectal ultrasound fusion guided biopsy offers an opportunity to accurately target and later retarget specific areas in the prostate. We describe the ability of magnetic resonance imaging/transrectal ultrasound fusion guided prostate biopsy to detect prostate cancer in areas with an initial diagnosis of atypical small acinar proliferation.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy, safety, and role of splenic biopsy in the management of patients with non-mass-forming isolated splenomegaly and suspected malignant lymphoma.
METHODS: Between 2001 and 2013, 137 biopsies were performed under computed tomography (CT) fluoroscopic guidance in 39 patients. All patients had splenomegaly based on the CT findings and a suspected diagnosis of malignant lymphoma based on their clinical symptoms. The spleen was the only accessible site to perform a biopsy, and no mass lesions could be identified in the spleen.

BACKGROUND: This article aims to comprehensively describe indications, contraindications, technical aspects, diagnostic accuracy and complications of percutaneous lung biopsy.
METHODS: Imaging-guided biopsy currently represents one of the predominant methods for obtaining tissue specimens in patients with lung nodules; in many cases treatment protocols are based on histological information; thus, biopsy is frequently performed, when technically feasible, or in case other techniques (such as bronchoscopy with lavage) are inconclusive.
RESULTS: Although a coaxial system is suitable in any case

Lesions in the mesentery are unique from other potential biopsy targets in the abdomen or pelvis for several reasons. Mesenteric lesions are among the deepest in the abdomen and are often surrounded by or adjacent to small bowel or colon. Mesenteric vasculature is often crowded, and traversing the mesentery often involves crossing multiple vascular planes. Mesenteric lesions and the structures surrounding them within the peritoneal cavity are often highly mobile. All these features can be daunting to any radiologist asked to perform a mesenteric biopsy. We provide a comprehensive overview and

BACKGROUND: CT-guided trans-thoracic lung biopsy (CT-TTLB) is efficient and widely used to diagnose pulmonary nodules. After pneumothorax, the second most frequent complication is hemoptysis, which can be life-threatening. These patients often have comorbidities and are on acetylsalicylic-acid (ASA) therapy. The aim of this study was to assess ASA as a risk factor for hemoptysis or severe hemoptysis following CT-TTLB.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed consecutive patients undergoing CT-TTLB from 2 centers between 01/2018 and 01/2021. Exclusion criteria were nodules with a pleural contact o

OBJECTIVES: The diagnostic yield and clinical impact of image-guided core needle biopsy (ICNB) of suspected vertebral osteomyelitis in adults is heterogenous in published studies owing to small sample sizes, indicating the need for large cohort studies.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of ICNBs was performed from 2010 to 2021 for patients with imaging findings consistent with vertebral osteomyelitis. For each biopsy, a series of factors were analyzed, as well as if histopathology was diagnostic of osteomyelitis and if microbiological cultures were positive. In addition, it was recorded in wh
