This article demonstrates the presence of selective binding activity for the Fc fragment of IgG on the ciliary processes of rabbit eye. Other parts of the eye, including the cornea, iris, choroid, and retina, were negative for such activity. Binding activity was demonstrated in vitro by the specific adherence of IgG-coated sheep red blood cells (IgGEA) to the ciliary processes in frozen sections of whole rabbit eye. A method has been developed to measure the in vitro production of immunoglobulin (Ig) by liver biopsy specimens. Five to 30 mg of liver tissue was cultured for 24 h in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium/10% foetal calf serum (FCS) containing radiolabelled leucine (L-[4,5-3H] leucine). Maternal immunoglobulin (Ig)G is present in breast milk and has been shown to contribute to the development of the immune system in infants. Biomarkers may facilitate detection of gastric cancer at an earlier stage and reduce mortality. Here we sought to determine if the glycosylation profile of serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) could distinguish patients with non-atrophic gastritis (NAG), duodenal ulcer (DU) and gastric cancer (GC). Serum IgG was released and analyzed using nano-LC-TOF mass spectrometry. Statistically significant false discovery rate (FDR)-adjusted p-values were observed for 18 glycans, eight that differed significantly between NAG and GC, three that distinguished NAG from DU, and eight that differed between DU and GC.

A female patient with end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease received a double-lung transplant from a donor with serologic evidence of past syphilis. The recipient showed a Treponema pallidum-specific IgG seroconversion 8 days after transplantation with increasing titers at follow-up. In Month 3 post-transplantation the immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody titer decreased. Retrospectively, we argue that the reactive syphilis serology in the recipient was due to a transmission of immunocompetent B cells in the graft rather than a transmission of T pallidum.

Childhood ITP is an acquired hemorrhagic disorder with a heterogeneous clinical course. We measured PAIgG levels in 20 children with ITP (7 acute, 13 chronic). Both groups had significantly greater PAIgG values than age-matched normal subjects and thrombocytopenic controls (P less than 0.001). In addition, PAIgG values in chronic ITP were significantly lower than those in acute ITP (P less than 0.003).
