ABH and Lewis antigens are detected by immunohistochemistry exclusively in the anterior cornea epithelium and in the conjunctiva bulbi, but not in the ciliary body, in the retina, or in the vitreous body of the eye. The ABH antigens found in the vitreous humor by the absorption elution technique (Rordorf et al., Forensic Sci. The immunohistochemical studies on a peroxisomal enzyme, catalase, were done on brains from human fetuses to adults. The results of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology combined with immunohistochemical staining of an orbital aspergilloma are presented. The cytologic findings included a tangled mass of hyphal elements and acute inflammation consistent with fungal disease. The slides were stained by the peroxidase-antiperoxidase method for Aspergillus sp. Positive staining confirmed the diagnosis of an orbital aspergilloma, and appropriate therapy was started.

The diagnosis and classification of soft tissue sarcomas can pose difficult problems for the histopathologist. Many sarcomas are too poorly differentiated to exhibit morphological features specific enough to define their histogenesis. Using the immunoperoxidase technique with commercially available antisera as a routine adjunct to other diagnostic aids, it is possible to arrive at more accurate diagnoses on which treatment protocols can be based. In addition a better understanding of mesenchymal neoplasms and their origins can be obtained by functional immunohistochemical studies.
