Contextualizing Changes in e-Cigarette Use During the Early COVID-19 Pandemic and Accompanying Infodemic ("So Much Contradictory Evidence"): Qualitative Document Analysis of Reddit Forums.

BACKGROUND: Understanding how social media platforms facilitate information exchange and influence behavior during health crises can enhance public health responses during times of uncertainty. While some risk factors for COVID-19 susceptibility and severity (eg, old age) were clear, whether e-cigarette use increased risk was not clear. People who used e-cigarettes had to navigate both the COVID-19 infodemic and a conflicting, politicized, and changing information environment about the interaction between COVID-19 and e-cigarette use. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to characterize and contextuali

Moderating Effect of Coping Strategies on the Association Between the Infodemic-Driven Overuse of Health Care Services and Cyberchondria and Anxiety: Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling Study.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a substantial increase in health information, which has, in turn, caused a significant rise in cyberchondria and anxiety among individuals who search for web-based medical information. [The naked king in the pandemic: about the production and communication of scientific knowledge at the time of SARS-CoV-2.].

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has lifted the veil about how medical knowledge is produced and disseminated. Action Bias, together with economic, academic and media-related interests, has concurred to generate and spread low-value and even unreliable information about some hypothetical therapeutic interventions for CoViD-19. Not only this "infodemic" has weakened people's ability to make informed health choices, but it also has influenced the process of new evidence generation through the violation of the equipoise principle. The CoViD-19 infodemic has further highlighted the need for reliable health

A surge of AI-driven publications: the impact on health professionals and potential mitigating solutions.

The rapid development of generative AI is reshaping scientific communication, particularly in medicine and public health. Since the release of ChatGPT in 2022, Large Language Models have become widely accessible, supporting manuscript editing, statistical analysis, and rapid evidence synthesis. However, this surge in AI-generated content raises concerns about the quality, reliability, and ethical implications of scientific publishing. Increased reliance on AI-driven authoring tools could exacerbate an "infodemic"-an overwhelming flood of potentially unreliable or misleading information. This r

Health Literacy, Misinformation, Self-Perceived Risk and Fear, and Preventive Measures Related to COVID-19 in Spanish University Students.

The "infodemic" is one of the main obstacles in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to face it, health literacy (HL) is essential since it allows for knowledge about COVID-19 and the practice of preventive measures to be fostered. This is especially relevant in university students due to their idiosyncrasy. This study aims to evaluate the level of HL related to COVID-19 (HLC), risk perception, misinformation, and the attitudes and behaviors adopted to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Spanish university students. An online questionnaire was administered to 499 Spanish universi

Misinformation During the COVID-19 Outbreak in China: Cultural, Social and Political Entanglements.

Not only did COVID-19 give rise to a global pandemic, but also it resulted in an infodemic comprising misinformation, rumor, and propaganda. The consequences of this infodemic can erode public trust, impede the containment of the virus, and outlive the pandemic itself. The evolving and fragmented media landscape, particularly the extensive use of social media, is a crucial driver of the spread of misinformation. Focusing on the Chinese social media Weibo, we collected four million tweets, from December 9, 2019, to April 4, 2020, examining misinformation identified by the fact-checking platform

The first Chinese case of Vici syndrome with novel compound heterozygous sequence variants in EPG5.

BACKGROUND: Vici syndrome (VICIS) refers to a clinical spectrum of multiple organ systems characterized by corpus callosum agenesis, hypopigmentation, cataracts, cardiomyopathy and immunodeficiency. The aims of this study were to describe detailed clinical and molecular features of two Chinese female siblings and to review several previous findings. METHODS: Targeted sequencing panel involving all known disease-causing genes of monogenic disorders combined with Sanger sequencing validation were performed to identify the likely pathogenic sequence variants of the proband with VICIS.
