Decoding herbal combination models through systematic strategies: insights from target information and traditional Chinese medicine clinical theory.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) utilizes intricate herbal formulations that exemplify the principles of compatibility and synergy. However, the rapid proliferation of herbal data has resulted in redundant information, complicating the understanding of their potential mechanisms. To address this issue, we first established a comprehensive database that encompasses 992 herbs, 18 681 molecules, and 2168 targets. Consequently, we implemented a multi-network strategy based on a core information screening method to elucidate the highly intertwined relationships among the targets of various herbs

Information behaviors and problem chain recognition effect: applying situational theory of problem solving in organ donation issues.

Identification of active subpopulations who are motivated to talk about, seek out, and select information about organ donation-related issues can improve health communicators' efficacy in increasing awareness of the shortage of organ and health donors. Using the Situational Theory of Problem Solving (STOPS), we segmented the general population into more meaningful subgroups (e.g., active, aware publics about an organ donation issue) and examined whether segmented public profiles could predict their likelihood of active information giving, taking, and selecting about donor shortage. We also tes

Counselling-informed environmental education in Nigerian Universities: A theory-based mixed-methods program evaluation.

Counselling-informed pedagogical strategies are being incorporated in environmental education programmes in post-secondary education to enhance environmental awareness, attitudes, and pro-environmental behaviour. However, there is a lack of empirical evidence regarding their usefulness and application especially in Global South settings. This paper appraises an intervention based on counselling-informed environmental education implemented in Nigerian universities in terms of outcome effectiveness and implementation dynamics. The outcomes of a convergenarallel mixed-method design were the colle

Towards a theory-informed framework of child-centred care in paediatric healthcare: a systematic scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Child-centred care is increasingly advocated in paediatric healthcare, yet its theoretical foundations remain fragmented and poorly defined. This review aimed to identify and synthesize theoretical perspectives applied to child-centred care in healthcare and to develop a theory-informed framework that clarifies its theoretical foundations and operationalisation. METHODS: The review followed the JBI methodology for systematic scoping reviews and was conducted and reported in accordance with the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). A comprehensive search of MEDLINE,

Exploring the path to corruption-An informed grounded theory study on the decision-making process underlying corruption.

Past corruption research at the individual level has mainly focused on demographics, personality, attitudes, or morality related variables. Until now, only a few studies have focused on the intra-individual psychological mechanisms of corruption. Building on normative decision-making theory, the present study attempts to shed further light on the internal mechanisms that lead to the decision that corruption is a viable path. Following an informed grounded theory approach, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 38 Indonesian prisoners who have been convicted of corruption. Guided by a mul

Applying Socio-Emotional Information Processing theory to explain child abuse risk: Emerging patterns from the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic exerted profound effects on parents, which may translate into elevated child abuse risk. Prior literature demonstrates that Social Information Processing theory is a useful framework for understanding the cognitive processes that can contribute to parental abuse risk, but the model has not adequately integrated affective processes that may coincide with such cognitions. OBJECTIVE: Given parents experienced intense emotions during the pandemic, the current study sought to examine how socio-emotional processes might account for abuse risk during the pandemic (p

Blast counts in bone marrow aspirate smears: analysis using the poisson probability function, bayes theorem, and information theory.

Counts of cells or other phenomena observed through a microscope are numeric observations and, as such, are subject to mathematical and statistical analyses. For example, the Poisson probability function provides the probability of observing a particular number of blasts in a bone marrow aspirate, given an underlying true fraction of blasts present and a particular number of cells evaluated. Furthermore, using the Poisson function, Bayes theorem can provide the probabilities of specific categories of refractory anemia, given a number of observed blasts in a specific total of cells evaluated. Effectiveness of a Theory-Informed Antimicrobial Stewardship Educational Intervention in Pharmacy Students: A Stepped-Wedge Study.

BACKGROUND: Developing antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) competencies is an essential priority in pharmacy education. However, stewardship training in many curricula remains largely knowledge-based, with limited implementation of theory-informed learning strategies and longitudinal competency evaluation. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a theory-informed, multicomponent Digital Antimicrobial Stewardship Education Intervention (DASEI) in improving AMS-related knowledge, clinical reasoning, perceptions, and attitudes among undergraduate pharmacy students. METHODS: A

How to deal with future uncertainty? An empirical study of undergraduates based on the theory of motivation information management.

Based on the Theory of Motivated Information Management (TMIM), this study examines how undergraduates manage information related to post-graduation pathways, with a particular focus on their interactions with teachers, family, and friends. In addition, it explores how individuals perceive and process information in uncertain situations, specifically examining undergraduates' behaviors and decision-making regarding employment and further education. Furthermore, this study sheds light on the decision-making processes of students facing graduation choices, particularly in terms of information ma

The Roles of Empathy and Theory of Mind in Sexual Violence Perpetration: An Integrated Social Information Processing Framework.

Empathy is an aspect of social cognition which has gained much attention to explain sexual violence perpetration, with research resulting in mixed and contradictory findings. Another aspect of social cognition, which has been linked to, and even used synonymously with, cognitive empathy is Theory of Mind (ToM). However, research is severely lacking on the role which ToM may play in sexual violence. Hence, in order to elucidate such issues, following a theoretical discussion of these concepts, we propose an integrated Social Information Processing (SIP) framework to understand how empathy and T

Trainees as Agents of Change: A Theory-Informed Model for Trainee-Driven Curricular Advocacy in Medical Education.

Trainees (medical students, residents, and fellows) are beginning to make strides in pushing for changes to their education. While there are many examples of successful trainee-led curriculum reform efforts, the path to success remains unclear. To better understand the process of trainee-driven curricular advocacy, the author analyzes this process through the lens of ecological systems theory (EST) not only to provide readers with context for the barriers and facilitators to trainee-driven curricular advocacy but also to further medical education's understanding of the sociopolitical forces in

Information, involvement, self-care and support-The needs of caregivers of people with stroke: A grounded theory approach.

BACKGROUND: Globally, stroke is a leading cause of death and disability, with most care undertaken by caregivers who are generally family and friends without prior experience of care. The lack of experience or unpreparedness results in feelings of uncertainty, burnout, anxiety, burden, etc. Hence, it is necessary to identify the needs of caregivers to better support them in their caregiving journey and improve the quality of care delivered. METHODS: The study employed a grounded theory methodology that utilizes information gathered from literature reviews and social media to represent the nee

Second Harmonic Nonlinear Warburg Admittance Analysis Eliminates Information Loss from Linearization in Traditional EIS: Theory and Experimental Validation.

Low-frequency impedance or admittance experiments of reversible redox couples in well-supported quiescent electrolyte are normally analyzed using a linearized semi-infinite Warburg element with a single lumped parameter. Because each species of a redox couple has a distinct diffusivity, one cannot determine individual diffusivities by fitting a spectrum with one parameter; linearization causes information loss. Weakly nonlinear theory and experiments presented here extend traditional Warburg admittance analysis to the higher harmonic currents generated from single-sine potential modulations at

Extending Multi-Input Linear Correction to Energy Representation Theory: Accurate Solvation Free Energy Prediction Independent of Volume Information.

We extend the multi-input linear correction (MILC) framework to the energy representation (ER) theory to improve the accuracy and robustness of solvation free energy (SFE) predictions. While ER theory offers a computationally efficient route to SFE from solute-solvent pair interaction distributions, its standard functionals often suffer from systematic biases. Although the truncated hypernetted chain (tHNC) functional was developed to reduce these errors, it relies on an empirical truncation parameter that is temperature-dependent and difficult to define for mixed solvents. To overcome these l

Functional role of the theory of mind network in integrating mentalistic prior information with action kinematics during action observation.

Inferring intentions from verbal and nonverbal human behaviour is critical for everyday social life. Here, we combined Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) with a behavioural priming paradigm to test whether key nodes of the Theory of Mind network (ToMn) contribute to understanding others' intentions by integrating prior knowledge about an agent with the observed action kinematics. We used a modified version of the Faked-Action Discrimination Task (FAD), a forced-choice paradigm in which participants watch videos of actors lifting a cube and judge whether the actors are trying to deceive th

Information theory characteristics improve the prediction of lithium response in bipolar disorder patients using a support vector machine classifier.

AIM: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a mood disorder with a high morbidity and death rate. Lithium (Li), a prominent mood stabilizer, is often used as a first-line treatment. However, clinical studies have shown that Li is fully effective in roughly 30% of BD patients. Our goal in this study was to use features derived from information theory to improve the prediction of the patient's response to Li as well as develop a diagnostic algorithm for the disorder. METHODS: We have performed electrophysiological recordings in patient-derived dentate gyrus (DG) granule neurons (from a total of 9 subjects) f
