BACKGROUND: Few large-scale studies exist on within-country variations in the incidence, diagnosis, and mortality of small intestine malignancies. This study examined the epidemiological trends and outcomes of these cancers in South Korea.
METHODS: We analyzed National Health Insurance Service claims data from 2005 to 2022 to identify newly diagnosed small intestine malignancies (ICD-10 code C17) and evaluated treatment modalities and diagnostic test usage. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazards models assessed survival outcomes and prognostic factors.

This study presents the revised Polish guidelines regarding the management of patients suffering from neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) of the small intestine and appendix. The small intestine, especially the ileum, is the most common location for these neoplasms. Most are well differentiated and slow growing. UNLABELLED: We report an example of dysplastic intestinal-type metaplasia involving endometriosis of the appendix in a 45 year old woman. One other example of this phenomenon has been reported. As it occurs within the muscular wall of the appendix, confusion with low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) may occur. Evidence supporting the metaplastic nature of the intestinal epithelium is offered. As the initial pathological diagnosis was of invasive cancer with perforation of the appendix treatment consisted of peritonectomy and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).

We present revised Polish guidelines regarding the management of patients harbouring neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) of the small intestine and appendix. PURPOSE: The primary end-point was to evaluate the cure fraction. Secondary end-points were to investigate the time to cure, the excess of death risk, the probability of cure and the factors related to these parameters.
METHODS: Retrospective study of an ENETS database regarding patients affected by Si-NENs. For each patients, clinical, pathological and follow-up data were collected. The survival analysis was made using a novel approach: the cure model approach.
