Subduing the Green-eyed Monster: Bridging the Psychopharmacological and Psychosocial Treatment Perspective in Understanding Pathological Jealousy.

Human being is not spared from a broad-ranged emotional state, including being jealous. Jealousy has both affective-cognitive and behavioural-evaluative dimension where the person perceives, or experiences a real threat on a valued relationship. As this complex emotion becomes irrational and not amenable to reason, it later transforms into a dangerously 'green-eyed monster'. This perilous situation which is viewed as pathological jealousy is a form of delusion, which is maintained by a fixed and false reasoning in an originally entrusted intimate relationship. Pathological jealousy is equally

Understanding Romantic Relational Aggression in Emerging Adults Using Latent Profile Analysis of Jealousy and Hostile Attribution Bias.

The present study sought to identify profiles of 753 emerging adults (62.5% females) with different levels of hostile attribution bias (HAB) and jealousy dimensions (i.e., cognitive, emotional, behavioral) and examined differences in their levels of romantic relational aggression (RoRAgg) across profiles. Participants were recruited from Greek universities and completed and online survey. Using a person-centered approach, Latent Profile Analysis indicated the presence of three profiles of participants: a) jealous and hostile intent attributers who had high scores on jealousy dimensions and HAB

Attachment Anxiety and Relationship Satisfaction in the Digital Era: The Contribution of Social Media Jealousy and Electronic Partner Surveillance.

Social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram) are woven into modern romantic relationships, particularly among young adults. Grounded in the attachment framework, this study expands on previous literature by using a longitudinal design to examine social media jealousy and electronic partner surveillance as mediators between attachment anxiety and relationship satisfaction. Over a 2-year span, 322 young adults aged 18-29 years and in a romantic relationship completed questionnaires about their social media use, attachment orientation, and relationship satisfaction. Results showed that soci

The assessment of cyberstalking: an expanded examination including social networking, attachment, jealousy, and anger in relation to violence and abuse.

Because the first antistalking statute was enacted in California in 1990, stalking research has been expanded immensely, yet been largely confined to exploring traditional pursuit tactics. This study instead examined the prevalence and correlates of cyberstalking behaviors while examining the phenomenon in a more inclusive manner than previous studies focusing on cyberstalking by including social networking avenues. In addition to a measure assessing cyberstalking-related behaviors, questionnaires assessing pathological aspects of personality, including attachment style, interpersonal jealousy

The role of inflexible friendship beliefs, rumination, and low self-worth in early adolescents' friendship jealousy and adjustment.

Two focal social cognitive processes were evaluated in a structural model for their direct and indirect roles in early adolescents' jealousy surrounding their closest friend in a sample of 325 early adolescents (169 girls and 156 boys) ages 11-14 years. Individuals who are rigid and unrealistic about meeting their friendship needs were more vulnerable to feelings of jealousy than individuals who think more flexibly. Inflexible individuals also engage in more jealousy-driven surveillance and other problem behavior towards their friends. Stronger jealous feelings and behavior were related, in tu

Gender-Specific Jealousy and Infidelity Norms as Sources of Sexual Health Risk and Violence Among Young Coupled Nicaraguans.

Gender inequity negatively affects health in Central America. In 2011, we conducted 60 semistructured interviews and 12 photovoice focus groups with young coupled men and women in León, Nicaragua, to explore the ways in which social norms around marriage and gender affect sexual health and gender-based violence. Participants' depictions of their experiences revealed gendered norms around infidelity that provided a narrative to justify male expressions of jealousy, which included limiting partner autonomy, sexual coercion, and physical violence against women, and resulted in increased women's r

The role of gender and romantic jealousy in intimate partner violence against women, a mixed-methods study in Northern Ecuador.

Male romantic jealousy is a commonly cited driver of intimate partner violence against women. An in-depth, contextualised understanding of the pathways and mechanisms from jealousy to intimate partner violence is, however, needed to inform programmes and interventions. We triangulated data from 48 interviews, eight focus groups and 1216 survey findings from low-income married women and men in northern Ecuador. Male jealousy was associated with controlling behaviours (aOR: 14.47, 95% CI: 9.47, 22.12) and sexual intimate partner violence (aOR: 2.4, 95% CI: 1.12, 5.12). Controlling behaviours wer

The Role of Vulnerable and Grandiose Narcissism in Psychological Perpetrated Abuse Within Couple Relationships: The Mediating Role of Romantic Jealousy.

The aim of this study was to analyze the direct and indirect relationships between the two phenotypes of narcissism, vulnerable and grandiose, and the tendency to perpetrate psychological abuse, exploring the mediating role of romantic jealousy. Our sample included 473 participants (213 males), aged 18-30 years (M = 22.74; SD = 2.81), involved in a stable romantic relationship. A structural equation modeling was conducted to test our model and a multigroup analysis was performed to test gender differences. Results show that the two forms of narcissism are both linked to psychological perpetrat

A Novel Mutation of FOXC1 (P136L) in an Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome Patient With a Systematized Delusion of Jealousy: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: The main features of Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome (ARS) are ocular, auditory, neurological, and morphological brain abnormalities. Mutations in forkhead box protein C1 (FOXC1) are among the responsible genes causing ARS, but neuropsychiatric features have rarely been reported. The case of an ARS patient (a 77-year-old man) with delusions of jealousy and impairment of working memory, in addition to the main clinical features, glaucoma and leukoencephalopathy, is presented. METHODS: The mutation in the patient's genome was found with whole exome sequencing and in silico analysis using P

Arginine vasopressin and oxytocin levels in patients with alcohol dependence and their association with morbid jealousy and partner violence: A case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Delusions of infidelity are more frequent in alcohol use disorder (AUD) than in primary psychotic disorders. METHODS: To examine the association of arginine vasopressin (AVP) and oxytocin (OT) levels with morbid jealousy in patients with AUD, patients having AUD with morbid jealousy (cases) and AUD without morbid jealousy (controls) were compared on sociodemographic, clinical variables and serum AVP and OT levels. Median AVP and OT levels were compared between the groups. Regression analysis was done to control for confounders. RESULTS: Twenty-eight cases and 29 controls were rec

Improvement in Delusional Jealousy and Caregiver Distress After Switching From Oral Galantamine to a Donepezil Transdermal Patch in Alzheimer's Disease: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) in Alzheimer's disease (AD) are common and strongly associated with caregiver distress. Switching cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs) may be considered when NPS remain clinically problematic. Although switching ChEIs may improve NPS in some patients, published reports describing improvement in delusional jealousy after switching to a donepezil transdermal patch remain limited. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a woman in her 60s with probable AD who developed caregiver-reported delusional jealousy and near-daily marital conflicts during oral galantamine th

The mediating role of friendship jealousy and anxiety in the association between parental attachment and adolescents' relational aggression: A short-term longitudinal cross-lagged analysis.

BACKGROUND: Limited research has confirmed the effects of adolescents' interactions with parents on adolescents' engagement in relational aggression. Youth reporting insecure attachment with parents are more likely to be involved in Relational aggression, while the positive association of Relational aggression with emotions such as friendship jealousy and anxiety are well-documented. However, little is known about the longitudinal association between parental attachment and Relational aggression. OBJECTIVE: The current study expands upon previous research by investigating the short-term longi

An explanatory model of intimate partner violence among peruvian women: Social and health implications.

The aim of this study was to analyze the explanatory capacity of emotional dependence and jealousy on intimate partner violence among Peruvian women. A convenience sampling procedure was used, resulting in a sample of 356 women. The research employed an empirical approach with an associative strategy design, specifically an explanatory study using structural equation modeling. The Brief Jealousy Scale, the Emotional Dependence Questionnaire, and the Reduced Dating Violence Questionnaire were used as measurement instruments. The analyses confirmed the independence of the variables and showed an

Agoraphobic women married to abnormally jealous men.

Of 36 married female agoraphobics treated by the author over a period of 3 years, seven were married to men who displayed abnormal jealousy. In all these cases the husbands' jealousy adversely influenced their wives' response to treatment, and improvement in wives was associated with increased morbidity in their husbands.

Othello syndrome. Preventing a tragedy when treating patients with delusional disorders.

Othello syndrome, sometimes referred to as delusional, pathological, morbid, or erotic jealousy, is a rare delusional disorder with high-risk implications. This article provides an overview of Othello syndrome and includes an individual example as well as a review of the literature. Pharmacological interventions and dialectical behavior therapy are discussed as options for pathological jealousy. Nursing considerations and assessment strategies of delusional jealousy are described for identification and evaluation of risk factors. Patient safety is addressed, and collaborative interventions are

Delusional disorder-jealous type: how inclusive are the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria?

Delusional disorder-jealous type is a new diagnostic category in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR; American Psychiatric Association, 2000) in which delusions concerning a partner's infidelity must be present. Therefore, patients who experience a jealousy disorder, but do not experience delusions will not fit the diagnostic criteria. Using a database of 398 case histories of jealousy disorders reported in the literature from 1940-2002, we examined the percentage of these cases that met the diagnostic criteria for delusional disorder-j

I Ruminate Therefore I Violate: The Tainted Love of Anxiously Attached and Jealous Partners.

Anxiously attached individuals worry about the psychological availability of their partners. Their preoccupation with unmet attachment related needs is likely accompanied by ruminative thoughts, feelings of jealousy, and dating abuse perpetration. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the prevalence of gender differences in perpetrating psychological and cyber dating abuse and to explore a hypothesized serial path from anxious attachment, through rumination, and cognitive jealousy to psychological and cyber dating abuse perpetration. The sample consisted of 562 (404 women) Turkis
