We present a case of a 43-year-old man treated for urethral stricture. Cystoscopy showed unusual tissue in the posterior urethra. Biopsies showed adenocarcinoma which was positive for cytokeratins 7 and 20 and negative for prostate specific antigen. Immunohistochemistry in this case was important for the diagnosis, primary urethral adenocarcinoma.

The metastatic spread of breast carcinoma to the stomach is a rare event and often represents a diagnostic challenge. In the present study, 23 cases of gastric metastases from breast cancer were retrospectively identified dating back until 2007. A 62-year-old man had been followed because of an elevated serum level of carcinoembryonic antigen without the detection of any cancer lesions. However, there was a sudden increase in the serum level of carcinoembryonic antigen, and abdominal imagings showed a hepatic tumor with peripheral intrahepatic bile duct dilatation, and a submucosal tumor at the sigmoid colon with intact mucosa. Histopathological findings showed that the hepatic tumor had perineural invasion, suggesting an intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, and that the colon tumor infiltrated the submucosa, while its mucosa was intact.

BACKGROUND: Intestinal metaplasia occurs in the esophagus as a consequence of gastroesophageal reflux disease and in the stomach secondary to H. pylori infection. The etiology of intestinal metaplasia limited to the gastroesophageal junction or cardia (CIM) is disputed. We hypothesized that CIM has dual etiologies: gastroesophageal reflux in some, H. pylori infection in others, and that cytokeratin immunostaining can help to differentiate between these two etiologies.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the expression patterns of cytokeratin 7 (CK7) and CK20 in the Barrett's esophagus and gastric cardia intestinal metaplasia.
METHODS: Endoscopic biopsy specimens from 19 patients with long segment Barrett's esophagus, 36 with short segment Barrett's esophagus, and 20 with histological evidence of gastric cardia intestinal metaplasia were immunostained for CK7 and CK20. The immunohistochemical data were analyzed in relation with the clinicopathological data of the patients including age, hiatal hernia, and Helicobacter pylori status.

In this research, keratin was chemically modified by Grafting keratin with 4-nitro-aniline, and then a reducing reaction was carried out to reduce the nitro group in order to generate an aromatic amino group on keratin structure to be used in the preparation of Schiff bases.
