Renal neoplasms mimicking rhabdoid tumor of kidney. A report from the National Wilms' Tumor Study Pathology Center.

Fifty-six renal neoplasms reviewed by the National Wilms' Tumor Study Pathology Center presented with histologic features that resulted in confusion with rhabdoid tumor of kidney, a usually lethal childhood renal tumor; all were eventually diagnosed as other entities. Conspicuous filamentous cytoplasmic inclusions or large nucleoli, typical findings in rhabdoid renal tumors, were the usual source of diagnostic difficulty. Most, but not all, tumors occurred in pediatric patients. Sixteen were examples of Favorable Histology Wilms' tumor, which invited confusion with rhabdoid tumors either on th

Benefits of Preemptive Living Kidney Transplantation: Reduced Rates of Cerebro-Cardiovascular Events and Neoplasm Development.

OBJECTIVES: Reports on the benefits of preemptive kidney transplantation (PEKT) have been conflicting. We assessed postoperative unfavorable outcomes to determine the potential advantages of PEKT. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective multicenter study including 567 living donor kidney transplantation recipients registered in the Michinoku Renal Transplant Network database between June 1998 and June 2021. The recipients were classified into two groups: PEKT and non-PEKT. We compared overall survival, graft survival, rejection-free survival, cerebro-cardiovascular disease (CCVD)-free survival,

Chronic kidney disease in the BCR-ABL1-negative myeloproliferative neoplasm: a single-center retrospective study.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Renal complications related to BCR-ABL1-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) have not been examined fully in Asian populations. METHODS: We analyzed estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and its changes with time retrospectively in patients with BCR-ABL1-negative MPN from 2005 to 2015. RESULTS: The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) was 11% (6.6% having stage 3 and 4.4% having stage 4). In a linear regression analysis of eGFR versus time (years), overall, patients showed increased eGFR (mL/min/1.73 m2) by 0.51 (95% confidence interval [CI], -0.30 to 1.3

Synchronous papillary renal neoplasm with reverse polarity and multilocular cystic renal neoplasm of low malignant potential in unilateral kidney: case report with molecular analysis and literature review.

Papillary Renal Neoplasm with Reverse Polarity (PRNRP) is a rare renal tumor, recently described in 2019 by Al-Obaidy et al. defined by characteristic histology of papillary neoplasm with apically located WHO/ISUP grade 1nuclei and frequent KRAS mutations. Multilocular cystic renal neoplasm of low malignant potential (MC-LMP) is an indolent tumor with a characteristic multicystic appearance with cysts lined by WHO/ISUP nuclear grade1 clear cells and presence of VHL alterations similar to that of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC); therefore, considered its variant. Simultaneous occurrence

Diagnostic performance of serum vitamin D metabolites and 14 inorganic elements in early prediction of kidney neoplasm.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify potential biomarkers by profiling serum vitamin D (VitD) metabolites and fourteen trace elements, with the goal of screening kidney neoplasm (KN) before symptom onset. METHODS: The study included 57 renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients, 43 patients with benign KN (BKN), and 50 healthy controls. Serum levels of VitD metabolites, including 25(OH)D2, 25(OH)D3, and C3-epi-25(OH)D3, were quantified using UPLC-MS/MS. The t-25(OH)D was calculated, and f-25(OH)D level was measured by ELISA. Serum concentrations of 14 inorganic elements, including calcium (Ca), m

A Rare Case of an Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm of Pancreas Fistulizing Into Duodenum With Adult Polycystic Kidney Disease.

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) accounts for 20-50% of all cystic neoplasms of the pancreas. Rarely, IPMN, whether benign or malignant, can fistulize into adjacent organs like duodenum, stomach or common bile duct. IPMN can be associated with other diseases like Peutz-Jeghers syndrome and familial adenomatous polyposis. Association with adult polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is extremely rare. We report a case of a 60-year-old male with a large IPMN in the head of the pancreas diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging, endoscopic ultrasound and cyst fluid analysis. It was complic

Mucinous Tubular and Spindle Cell Carcinoma of the Kidney: A Rare Renal Neoplasm-Case Report and Literature Review.

Background and Clinical Significance: Mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma (MTSCC) is an uncommon subtype of renal cell carcinoma, representing 1-4% of epithelial renal tumors. It usually shows a low-grade morphology and indolent behavior, although sarcomatoid variants with an aggressive course have been described. Because of its overlap with papillary renal cell carcinoma (papRCC), sarcomatoid RCC, mesenchymal tumors, and oncocytic neoplasms, diagnosis requires the integration of imaging, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry. Case Presentation: We report a 71-year-old female who pr

Malignant Perivascular Epithelioid Cell Neoplasm of Left Kidney Treated With Targeted Therapy: A Rare Case Report.

Perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasm (PEComa) is one of the rare entities which is challenging to diagnose clinically. These tumors occur due to tuberous sclerosis complex gene mutations leading to upregulation and overexpression of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). Malignant PEComas are rare, and we report a peculiar case of PEComa treated with mTOR inhibitors. A 43-year-old woman presented with complaints of back pain, intermittent fever, dysuria, and cough with expectoration for one month. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed heterogeneously enhancing exophytic mass of the

[Kidney tumor in 12-year-old girl--case study of the rare histopatologic form of neoplasm in children].

The authors present an atypical case of MEST uncovered in 12-year-old girl diagnosed with recurrent pyuria and persistent albuminuria with concomitant hypertension. Urine changes persisted despite the antibiotics therapy and they were accompanied with aseptic urine cultures. While investigating these changes, USG, urography, CT and MRI were performed and these manifested tumor-like change in the right kidney. Right-side nefrectomy was performed. Microscopically MEST was found while infection was found in parenchyma. Mixed epithelial and stromal tumor is a very rare kidney tumor that occurs alm

Comparative genomic hybridization of estrogen-induced ectopic uterine-like stem cell neoplasms in the hamster kidney: nonrandom chromosomal alterations.

Karyotype and comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) analyses were performed to identify nonrandom/consistent chromosomal alterations in solely estrogen (E)-induced primary ectopic uterine-like stem cell tumors in the kidney (EULTK) of the Syrian hamster, using a criterion of >/=20% frequency for nonrandom occurrence. Employing this criterion, EULTK karyotype analysis showed consistent gains in chromosomes 3, 6, 11, 14, 16, 20, and 21. Consistent trisomies were seen in all of these nonrandomly gained chromosomes. Only chromosomes 3 and 6 exhibited appreciable tetrasomies. Chromosome losses we

Can BKPyV Infection Affect Neoplasm Transformation Among Kidney Transplant Recipients? A Case Series Study Report.

Background: There is a great deal of knowledge regarding the development of polyomavirus-associated nephropathy and polyomavirus-associated hemorrhagic cystitis in transplant recipients with active BKPyV infection. However, recent studies have revealed a potential association between BKPyV reactivation and certain malignancies, including transitional cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma, colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer. This study aimed to identify a potential link between BKPyV infection and oncogenic transformation in kidney transplant recipients. Methods: Presentation of a case series

Malignant priapism secondary from metastatic renal carcinoma: Case report: "Malignant Priapism from Kidney Neoplasm".

Malignant priapism (MP) is defined as a condition of persistent erection of the penile without sexual stimulation due to malignant cell invasion to the cavernous sinus and the efferent veins. We present a case of a man, 63 years old, with previous history of high-grade renal carcinoma pT3N0M0 had been through radical nephrectomy, diagnosed with MP secondary from metastatic renal carcinoma. The management of this case was aspiration of corpora cavernosa and distal shunting with the Al-Ghorab procedure, then continued to total penectomy and perineostomy.

Suprarenal solitary fibrous tumor associated with a NF1 gene mutation mimicking a kidney neoplasm: implications for surgical management.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare spindle cell neoplasm, usually occurring in the pleura. Pararenal SFT, mimicking an adrenal gland or renal tumor, as here described, is extremely rare. We report a case of a right suprarenal SFT, incidentally discovered by abdominal ultrasound in a 54-year-old woman carrying a point neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) gene mutation. Preoperative diagnostic work-up was ineffective in evaluating its origin, and an open radical right nephrectomy was therefore undertaken. Immunohistochemical assay showed a positivity for CD34, CD99 and Bcl-2, so suggesting a diagnosis

Kidney Dysfunction Is Associated with Thrombosis and Disease Severity in Myeloproliferative Neoplasms: Implications from the German Study Group for MPN Bioregistry.

Inflammation-induced thrombosis represents a severe complication in patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and in those with kidney dysfunction. Overlapping disease-specific attributes suggest common mechanisms involved in MPN pathogenesis, kidney dysfunction, and thrombosis. Data from 1420 patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET, 33.7%), polycythemia vera (PV, 38.5%), and myelofibrosis (MF, 27.9%) were extracted from the bioregistry of the German Study Group for MPN. Benign tumors and tumor-like lesions of the adult kidney. Part II: Benign mesenchymal and mixed neoplasms, and tumor-like lesions.

In this review article the benign tumors and tumor-like lesions of the adult kidney are discussed. The incidence of benign renal tumors is low, especially when compared to renal cell carcinomas, as most are detected incidentally or at autopsy. Some of these tumors, as their names imply, are unique to the kidney, e.g., renal adenoma, metanephric adenoma, renal oncocytoma, nephrogenic adenofibroma, mesoblastic nephroma, capsuloma, juxtaglomerular cell tumor, renomedullary interstitial cell tumor (medullary fibroma), cystic nephroma, cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma, and cystic hama

Laparoscopic resection of a low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm in a patient with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease: a case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (AMNs) are rare, and preoperative diagnosis can be challenging, particularly when other abdominal cystic diseases coexist. Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), which is characterized by multiple cystic formations, can complicate both differential diagnosis and surgical planning. CASE PRESENTATION: A 77-year-old man with ADPKD and chronic renal failure was referred to our hospital following a positive fecal occult blood test during an evaluation for anemia. Colonoscopy revealed a large submucosal tumor-like elevation
