Patient with confirmed LEOPARD syndrome developing multiple melanoma.

LEOPARD syndrome, also known as Gorlin syndrome II, cardiocutaneous syndrome, lentiginosis profusa syndrome, Moynahan syndrome, was more recently coined as Noonan syndrome with multiple lentigines (NSML), inside the RASopathies. Historically, the acronym LEOPARD refers to the presence of distinctive clinical features such as: lentigines (L), electrocardiographic/conduction abnormalities (E), ocular hypertelorism (O), pulmonary stenosis (P), genital abnormalities (A), retardation of growth (R), and sensorineural deafness (D). This condition is identified in 85% of patients with phenotype hallma

Oro-dental and craniofacial anomalies in LEOPARD syndrome.

'LEOPARD syndrome' is a syndrome affecting many systems or organs. The main anomalies are summarized in the acronym LEOPARD in which each letter corresponds to the damage of a given organ. In the presented case, there are oro-dental and craniofacial anomalies. The relationship between the LEOPARD syndrome and the given anomalies and the possibilities of the management and the follow-up of the diseased are studied. The clinical case presented is a 4-year-old boy with LEOPARD syndrome showing retardation of dental development, delayed development and possible agenesis of permanent teeth, and cra

LEOPARD syndrome: death because of chronic respiratory insufficiency.

Most patients with LEOPARD syndrome (L--lentigines, E--electrocardiographic conduction defects, O--ocular hypertelorism, P--pulmonary stenosis, A--abnormalities of genitalia, R--retardation of growth, D--deafness) seem to lead a relatively normal life, cardiomyopathy being the cause of death in a few. We describe a 19-year-old woman with an extreme form of the syndrome requiring correction of her thoracic deformities and cardiac defects, succumbing ultimately to respiratory insufficiency. The respiratory insufficiency was secondary to her deformed thorax, with the congenital heart defect contr

[Multiple lentigines syndrome or leopard syndrome. Presentation of a clinical case].

Multiple lentigenes syndrome is a complex genetic dermatosis with dominant autosomal transmission an varying degrees of penetration first described in 1969. Apart from disseminated lentigenes at least two of the following are present: cardiac and neurosensory alterations, cervicofacial genitourinary and endocrinological dysmorphias, retarded growth and other skin conditions. MLS has also been called LEOPARD syndrome (Gorlin et al. 1969), thus being an acronym that memorizes the various anomalies involved: L = lentigines, E = ECG anomalies, O = ocular hypertelorism, P = pulmonary stenosis, A =

Leopard syndrome: the potential cardiac defect underlying skin phenotypes.

LEOPARD syndrome (OMIM #151,100) caused by a germline PTPN11 mutation are characterized as multisystemic anomalies and variable marked phenotypes such as multiple lentigines and cafe´-au-lait spots, electrocardiographic conduction abnormalities, ocular hypertelorism/obstructive cardiomyopathy, pulmonary stenosis, abnormal genitalia, retardation of growth, and deafness. Phenotype overlap complicates clinical discrimination within RASopathies, making the diagnosis of LEOPARD more confusing and challenging. Besides, LEOPARD patients do not usually present with all these typical clinical features,

Swimmer syndrome in a clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa) cub.

A 32-day-old, hand-reared, captive-born female clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa) cub presented as being unable to stand, ambulate, or adduct both hind limbs. The cub exhibited hyperextension of both tarsal joints and a flattened thorax, which limited mobility to "swimmer-like" movements. Neither congenital defects nor neurologic deficits were observed during the medical examination. Radiographic examination showed the thorax was compressed dorsoventrally, but no other skeletal abnormalities were detected. Based on clinical signs, the condition was more consistent with swimmer syndrome, which

Leopard syndrome, a neural crest disorder: a case report.

A case of Leopard syndrome with full clinical expression is reported. In addition to the cardinal signs of the syndrome this patient presented some abnormalities which have not been previously described such as macroglossia, multiple dental anomalies, basilar impression and platybasia, megacolon, hypertrophy of clitoris and anal ectopy. The presence of dental anomalies and megacolon may represent involvement of the dental papillae and myenteric plexus favoring the view that the syndrome results from a derangement of the neural crest elements.

LEOPARD syndrome: clinical dilemmas in differential diagnosis of RASopathies.

BACKGROUND: Diagnosis within RASopathies still represents a challenge. Nevertheless, many efforts have been made by clinicians to identify specific clinical features which might help in differentiating one disorder from another. Here, we describe a child initially diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis-Noonan syndrome. The follow-up of the proband, the clinical evaluation of his father together with a gene-by-gene testing approach led us to the proper diagnosis. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 8-year-old male with multiple café-au-lait macules, several lentigines and dysmorphic features that suggest

Acute motor and sensory axonal neuropathy in LEOPARD syndrome.

A case of acute predominantly axonal motor and sensory neuropathy (AMSAN) is reported in a 16-year-old boy with LEOPARD syndrome (the acronym represents lentigines, ECG conduction abnormalities, ocular hypertelorism, pulmonic stenosis, abnormal genitalia, retardation of growth, and sensorineural deafness). The presentation was atypical for acute motor and sensory axonal neuropathy, in that this patient had progression of symptoms of more than 4 weeks and there were signs of reinnervation in the acute phase. Treatment response to intravenous immunoglobulins was excellent. In patients with LEOPA

LEOPARD syndrome and hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy: a case report.

The LEOPARD syndrome is a rare, autosomal dominant multisystemic disorder characterized by lentiginosis, ocular hypertelorism, abnormal genitalia, growth retardation, sensorineural deafness, and cardiac and electrocardiographic abnormalities. Although it is not cited, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is often associated with the disease. In this study, we present a nine-year-old boy with LEOPARD syndrome and hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.

Cardiomyopathic lentiginosis/LEOPARD syndrome presenting as sudden cardiac arrest.

A 26-year-old apparently healthy man with numerous pigmented skin lesions collapsed during an evening party and was resuscitated from ventricular fibrillation. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and subaortic tunnel were disclosed by angiocardiography. A diagnosis of cardiomyopathic lentiginosis/lentigines (multiple), electrocardiographic abnormalities, ocular hypertelorism, pulmonary stenosis, abnormalities of the genitalia, retardation of growth, and deafness (sensorineural) syndrome was made. The patient then underwent treatment with an implantable pacer-cardioverter-defibrillator device. Further

[Progressive cardiomyopathic lentiginosis (LEOPARD syndrome) in 3 patients, combined with Marfan syndrome].

We report on 4 cases of profuse lentiginosis (LEOPARD syndrome); 3 of these were familial and associated with Marfan's syndrome. This combination has, to the best of our knowledge, never been mentioned before. In addition we found alterations of the blood vessels never described so far. Our 4th patient is an 18-year-old girl sporadically suffering from LEOPARD syndrome.

The experience of bilateral cochlear implantation in a child with LEOPARD syndrome.

We present a 3-year old boy with Leopard syndrome. His clinical manifestations included a congenital bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. He underwent cochlear implantation on the right side at age 1 year and on the left side at age 1.5 years. The patient is doing very well and mainstreamed in a regular pre-school program with a teacher of the deaf and home based speech therapy. Bilateral cochlear implantation in the case of a child with Leopard syndrome can be successful.
