Oral intake of Lactobacillus helveticus-fermented milk whey decreased transepidermal water loss and prevented the onset of sodium dodecylsulfate-induced dermatitis in mice.

We investigated the effects of oral intake of Lactobacillus helveticus-fermented milk whey on the intact and sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS)-exposed skin of Hos:HR-1 hairless mice. The mice were allowed to drink 10% L. helveticus-fermented milk whey in distilled water ad libitum for 5 weeks. SDS solution was topically applied to the dorsal skin at 4 weeks, leading to the development of dermatitis. The skin moisture content, transepidermal water loss, and sizes of the dermatitis areas were periodically measured. Compared with oral intake of water alone, oral intake of water containing L. helveticus

Oral administration of the probiotic strain Lactobacillus helveticus BGRA43 reduces high-fat diet-induced hepatic steatosis in mice and restores gut microbiota composition.

INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is rapidly increasing. Modulation of the gut microbiota through the use of probiotics has been recognized as an important option for the treatment of hepatic steatosis. Previous studies suggested that the bacterial strain Lactobacillus helveticus BGRA43 (LHBGRA43) can reduce inflammation and improve the bacterial balance in the gut. The aim of this study was to investigate whether oral administration of LHBGRA43 in mice fed a high-fat diet contributes to the reduction of hepatic steatosis through i

Detoxification of aflatoxin M1 by eight lactic acid bacteria strains, alone or in combination, as viable and heat-killed cells in PBS, MRS broth, and Karish cheese.

Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) in milk is a major public health concern. It is a hydroxylated metabolite of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), formed in the liver of animals after ingestion of contaminated feed and subsequently excreted into milk. Biological techniques could be used to combat this hepatotoxic and carcinogenic toxin. Therefore, this study evaluated the ability of eight lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains to reduce AFM1 levels in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), MRS broth, and Karish cheese using viable cells, while heat-inactivated cells, rendered non-viable by thermal treatment, were evaluated only in
