Differentiation of disaccharide isomers via diagnostic-ion-weighted spectral library searching using data from tandem MS analysis of chloride adducts.

Rare sugars, comprising over 50 known saccharide isomers, have broad significance in food science, pharmaceuticals, and biomedical applications. However, the inherent structural complexity (due to isomerization) and low natural abundance of these saccharides pose substantial analytical challenges to their characterization. Herein, we developed a spectral library searching platform capable of distinguishing disaccharide isomers based on chloride-adducted (M + Cl-) tandem MS (MS/MS) data. A set of unique diagnostic fragment ions was generated from each of the 15 disaccharide isomers, allowing th

Effects of water immersion therapy on pain: a systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression.

A systematic evaluation of water immersion therapy (WIT) for pain relief. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, Ovid MEDLINE, Wiley Online Library, and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro). The data were analyzed using the standardized mean difference (SMD) with its corresponding 95% confidence interval (95% CI). The results demonstrated that WIT significantly reduced Visual analogue scale scores (SMD= -1.08, P< 0.0001). Subgroup analysis indicated that WIT monotherapy was associated with a more significant improvement in pain (P<

Hyponatremia as a marker of complicated appendicitis: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Acute appendicitis, the most common cause of acute surgical abdomen, is associated with intra-abdominal complications, such as perforation, that increase morbidity and mortality. Early and accurate preoperative diagnosis of complicated appendicitis mandates the identification of new diagnostic markers. This systematic review summarizes current literature on the adoption of hyponatremia as an early diagnostic and predictive marker of complicated appendicitis. A systematic meta-review of reviews and meta-analyses on problems reported by survivors of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) was conducted. The aim was to comprise a comprehensive overview of 1) problems reported by survivors of CSA, and 2) variables moderating these relations. Two raters independently conducted a search through PubMed, PsychINFO, Campbell Library, Cochrane Library and Web of Science. Twenty-five reviews and meta-analyses reporting on 53 problems related to CSA were analyzed. All fell into five domains: medical, psychological, sexual, repeated (self-)harm, and a final category of other

Nicolau syndrome caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: Systematic literature review.

AIM: Intramuscular or, more rarely, local drug injection is occasionally followed by immediate local pain, livedoid skin lesions and, some days later, the development of ischemic lesions. This very uncommon but potentially severe reaction, termed Nicolau syndrome, is traditionally associated with bismuth and β-lactam antimicrobials. The aim of this report was to review the literature associating Nicolau syndrome with the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. METHODS: The National Library, Excerpta Medica, Web of Science and Cochrane library databases were used. RESULTS: Si

Cytomegalovirus infection and graft rejection as risk factors for pneumocystis pneumonia in solid organ transplant recipients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

A growing number of publications have reported the outbreaks of post-transplant pneumocystis pneumonia (PJP). In most studies, the onset of PJP was beyond 6-12 months of prophylaxis. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and allograft rejection have been repeatedly reported as probable risk factors for post-transplant PJP. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we determined the pooled effect estimates of these 2 variables as risk factors. Data sources included PUBMED, MEDLINE-OVID, EMBASE-OVID, Cochrane Library, Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, World Health Organization,

As part of its proclaimed transformation, the world's largest tobacco company, Philip Morris International (PMI), states it conducts "transparent science." This paper uses recently leaked documents from PMI and its Japanese affiliate, Philip Morris Japan (PMJ), to examine its contemporary scientific practices. Speech and Language Changes During Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Sleep with Potential Diagnostic Markers: A Systematic Review.

Background: Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is a parasomnia resulting from degeneration of pontine and medullary circuits responsible for muscle atonia during REM sleep, leading to dream-enactment behaviors and vocalizations. It is strongly linked to α-synucleinopathies, particularly Parkinson's disease. Current biomarkers such as neurophysiological measures and imaging support diagnosis and monitoring, but remain invasive or costly. Aim: This study aims to evaluate vocal and speech alterations as exploratory, non-validated candidate biomarkers of REM sleep behavior diso

Abdominal massage for chronic constipation in the elderly: a systematic review and meta-analysis protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic constipation (CC) is a highly prevalent health challenge that is particularly challenging to treat in elderly patients. Although lifestyle guidance and laxative therapy often yield positive outcomes, patients occasionally struggle with maintaining dietary control. Therefore, identifying an economical and safe alternative therapy to the existing treatment methods documented in the international literature is necessary. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of abdominal massage in elderly patients with CC to provide a basis for fu
