Linitis Plastica type of carcinoma can arise primarily in the colon or rectum. Fifty-two cases have been reported in the English medical literature over a 50-yr period. Two new cases are described. One patient had primary linitis plastica of the ascending colon, the other being in the rectum. Both patients died of widespread malignancy within 10 mth of diagnosis, the fate of most of the reported cases. This rare manifestation of colo-rectal carcinoma carries an ominous prognosis.

Primary or secondary rectal linitis plastica is rare. We describe MRI, 68 Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT, and PET/MRI findings in a case of rectal linitis plastica secondary to prostate adenocarcinoma. BACKGROUND: Gastric linitis plastica (GLP) is a subset of gastric cancer with a poor prognosis. It is difficult to obtain a definitive diagnosis by endoscopic mucosal biopsies, and the usefulness of an endoscopic ultrasonography-guided fine-needle biopsy (EUS-FNB) for GLP has been recently reported. Meanwhile, autoimmune diseases are occasionally known to coexist with malignant tumors as paraneoplastic syndrome. The overall 5-year survival of patients with urothelial carcinoma of the bladder (UC) is about 78%; however, there are some rare subtypes. One of these is the lipoid cell subtype, which bears a very poor prognosis. Another rare disease entity with a poor prognosis is metastasis to the lower gastrointestinal tract in the form of secondary linitis plastica of the rectum. We describe an extremely rare and unique case of rectal linitis plastica secondary to the rare lipoid cell variant of UC.

A rare case of a colon cancer with a hepatomatous metastasis is reported. A 79 year old female was admitted hospital in April, 1988 with liver cirrhosis. On death in November, 1988, an autopsy revealed a primary, linitis plastica type diffuse adenocarcinoma of the total colon with an extensive metastases into lungs, kidneys, liver, small intestine, bladder, spleen, the bone marrow, and the lymph nodes. In the cirrhotic liver two hepatomatous nodules were found. As a focus of one of these nodules, there was a metastatic linitis plastica lesion of the colon.

A 55-year old man with von Recklinghausen's disease was admitted to our hospital for investigation of weight loss, anorexia, and abdominal discomfort. Endoscopy findings revealed impairment in the extendability of the stomach by air, and barium meal studies showed a well-contracted stomach. PURPOSE: The purpose of this work was to describe the helical CT findings of intestinal metastasis from gastric adenocarcinoma.
