A case of benign lipoblastoma of the retroperitoneum in a 12-month-old boy, presenting as a huge abdominal mass and right lower extremity swelling, was reported. Surgery revealed involvement of the right common iliac artery and vein by lipoblastoma, requiring the sacrifice of both vessels for complete removal of the tumour. Vascular continuity of both vessels was re-established by a saphenous vein graft interposition. Involvement of a great artery by benign lipoblastoma has not been reported before.

BACKGROUND: Lipoblastomas (LPBs) are benign adipocytic neoplasms believed to recapitulate the development of embryonal fat.
METHODS: We investigated the clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical features of 20 lipoblastomas arising in the head and neck in 18 patients.
RESULTS: Patients included 6 males and 12 females (1:2 ratio) with age at diagnosis ranging from 4 months to 28 years. Tumors occurred more commonly in the neck (12, 66.7%) and less commonly in the forehead, scalp, and tongue (2, 11.1%). Tumor size ranged from 1.4 to 6.0 cm (median 5.0 cm). Two patients, a 4-month-old female an

BACKGROUND: Lipoblastoma is a rare and benign tumor arising from embryonal fat cells. It develops primarily in infancy and early childhood. We present a case study of a 10-month-old child treated for an extensive tumor of the infratemporal fossa and parapharyngeal space. The systematic review of 60 reports in 80 children with lipoblastoma of the head and neck is also reported.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Systematic review of all articles included lipoblastomas of the head and neck area in children published from 1964 to 2022 in the PubMed database was conducted. Clinical presentation of extensive l

Lipoblastoma-like tumor of the vulva (LBLTV) was first described as a benign mesenchymal neoplasia; it was not recognized as a separate diagnosis in the 2013 WHO classification of soft-tissue tumors. To date, only 19 cases have been reported. LBLTV differential diagnosis includes other tumors of the vulvoperineal region and tumors with adipocytic differentiation, most of which are benign and thus a misdiagnosis has few clinical consequences. However, LBLTV may also mimic some aggressive lipomatous neoplasms. We describe a case of LBLTV in a 28 year-old woman and review the literature.

Lipoblastoma is a benign adipose tumor typically presenting in infancy in superficial soft tissues of extremities. Intestinal complications secondary to intraabdominal or retroperitoneal involvement are exceedingly rare. We describe a unique case of a primary intestinal lipoblastoma arising from the submucosa of the transverse colon in an otherwise healthy 18-month-old boy. He presented with a history of reducible rectal prolapse, rectal bleeding, and episodic abdominal pain and was initially treated for constipation. Imaging identified a short colo-colonic intussusception, confirmed at laparo

Lipoblastoma is a rare benign tumour of adipose tissue that usually occurs in young children. Although around 100 cases of lipoblastoma have been reported in humans, no report has been previously described in animals. This case report describes the clinical and histopathological findings of a congenital lipoblastoma located at the tail base of a 2-day-old male calf. Grossly, the mass was pink with a partly ulcerated and haemorrhagic surface. The calf showed no neurological deficits. Radiographs of the vertebral column revealed no abnormalities, and surgical excision was performed. Histopatholo

Lipoblastoma is a tumor of adipose tissue that usually occurs in young children. Most lipoblastomas occur on the extremities, trunk, and head and neck, and most have rearrangements of the 8q region. We describe a lipoblastoma in a 12-month-old boy who presented with a rapidly enlarging scrotal mass. Electron microscopy revealed features consistent with immature adipocytes, and cytogenetic analysis revealed the following karyotype: 57,XY,+4,+6,+7,der(8)t(8;12) (q22;q13), +der(8)t(8;12) (q22;q13), +9,+10,+12,-16,+17,+der(18)t(8;18)(q22;q23),+19,+20. Lipoblastoma is a relatively rare tumor that occurs in infancy and early childhood and arises from embryonic white fat. Although a benign tumor, lipoblastomas tend to recur and may resemble myxoid liposarcoma. The authors report 26 cases over a 15-year period at Texas Children's Hospital. There was a slight female predilection (14F:12M). The most common symptom was a painless mass with or without increasing size. The trunk, extremities, head and neck, retroperitoneum, inguinal canal, peritoneal cavity, and lung were the tumor sites. Most tumors were circumscribed lipoblastomas and the minority

There is a broad differential diagnosis for a pre-pubertal child presenting with a scrotal mass including both benign and malignant etiologies. Lipoblastomas are rare benign neoplasms originating from fat cells that occur most commonly on the trunk or extremities of young children. There have been less than 20 cases of scrotal lipoblastomas reported in the literature, with the majority occurring in children less than 3 years of age. Here we present a unique case of an 18-month male presenting with a paratesticular mass found to be a lipoblastoma on final pathology.

INTRODUCTION: Lipoblastoma is a rare benign tumor arising from embryonic white fat which occurs in the early childhood. It usually arises on the extremities and considered as a rare cause of a pediatric head and neck masses. The aim of this study is to shed light on lipoblastomas as a differential diagnosis of rapidly growing soft fatty masses of children in neck and head area.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of 3 patients with lipoblastoma, underwent Surgical resection (case 1 and 2) by cervical approach. The third patient with a facial lipoblastoma was not operated due to the h

Lipoblastoma is a benign soft-tissue tumour of infancy and early childhood. The location of the tumour varies from that of the extremities, trunk, retroperitoneum, mediastinal, inguinal and scrotal regions. The most common symptoms are painless mass with or without increasing size. Complete surgical excision is the gold standard for managing this entity. Though rare, the recurrence occurs usually because of incomplete excision. We report a case of recurrent lipoblastoma of the upper extremity in a 9-year-old boy.

Lipoblastoma is a rare, rapidly growing, benign mesenchymal tumor composed of various stages of maturing adipocytes that most often occurs in children under the age of 3. The common locations are the extremities and the trunk. Presentation in the genitoinguinal area is rare. We report a case of a 13-month-old female infant with a 4-month history of a progressively enlarging left labial mass that encompassed her left labium majora and inguinal region. Pelvic MRI confirmed growth from previous ultrasound size of 3 × 2 × 1 cm to 7 × 2 × 2 cm. Composition was suggestive of adipose tissue. The mass

A nine year-old boy presented with symptoms of dyspnoea. The chest radiograph and computed tomography scan revealed a large mediastinal tumour. A decision to operate on the patient was made. A huge 2.45 kg mediastinal lipoblastoma was successfully removed from the boy's chest. At three years no evidence of recurrence was found.

Lipoblastoma-like tumor of the vulva (LLTV) is an exceptionally rare adipocytic mesenchymal tumor with only 4 cases reported previously. The aim of this study is to help characterize this tumor type. Eight cases of LLTV were identified in the consult files of one of the authors (C.D.M.F.). Clinical data and follow-up information were obtained from the referring pathologists. Detailed clinical information is available in all 8 cases. Patient age ranged from 17 to 46 years (median 27 y). Lesions presented as a vulvar mass with a variable growth rate, sometimes being painful. The most common preo

Lipoblastoma is a rare benign tumor of adipose tissue seen almost always in infanthood and early childhood. It is typically located in the extremities and the trunk and less frequently in the head-neck region, mediastinum, and retroperitoneum. However, cases of pleural, thoracic wall, and pulmonary lipoblastoma have also been reported in the literature. Lipoblastoma is a tumor with good prognosis despite its potential for local invasion and rapid growth. Our patient is a 7-month-old girl who was brought to our clinic for a rapidly growing mass in the right hemithorax. With the aim of both diag
