Dedifferentiated liposarcoma exhibiting myxoid liposarcoma-like morphology with DDIT3 co-amplifcation and STAT6 nuclear expression.

Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) arises from atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ALT/WDLPS) through progression into non-lipogenic sarcomas of varying histological grades, driven by amplification of the chromosome 12q13-15 region containing MDM2, CDK4, DDIT3, STAT6, GLI1, HMGA2, etc. DDLPS demonstrates marked morphological heterogeneity in its dedifferentiated components. We describe two DDLPS cases featuring a prominent arborizing vascular network, myxoid stroma, and STAT6 nuclear expression-features that complicate differentiation from solitary fibrous tumors (SFT)

Silent Metastasis of Myxoid Liposarcoma to the Heart Unveiled by Multimodal Imaging.

We present the case of a 58-year-old male with a history of smoking and hypertension, who was diagnosed with and treated for a myxoid liposarcoma of the right thigh. After undergoing surgical resection with negative margins and adjuvant radiotherapy, the patient remained asymptomatic. During a scheduled two-year routine imaging follow-up, a suspicious mass was identified in the right ventricle, incidentally detected on a surveillance scan without preceding clinical symptoms, leading to the diagnosis of metastatic cardiac myxoid liposarcoma. Multimodal imaging, including echocardiography, CT sc

Recurrent Myxoid Liposarcoma of the Upper Thoracic Spine: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Liposarcoma, one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas, originates from primitive mesenchymal cells. However, spinal involvement of liposarcoma, whether primary or metastatic, is rare. According to literature reports, myxoid/round cell liposarcomas are the most common types affecting the spine. Spinal liposarcomas, whether primary or metastatic, have only been sporadically reported. CASE PRESENTATION: The author presents an unusual case of recurrent myxoid liposarcoma originating from the erector spinae muscle, infiltrating the upper thoracic spine in a 65-year-old female. The

Giant Paratesticular Myxoid Liposarcoma: A Case Report of a Rare Entity.

Paratesticular myxoid liposarcoma is an exceedingly rare malignancy originating from the spermatic cord or paratesticular tissues. We report a unique case of a 75-year-old male patient who presented with a painless scrotal swelling that had been growing for four years. Imaging investigations, including ultrasonography (USG) and contrast-enhanced computerized tomography (CECT), revealed characteristics consistent with paratesticular myxoid liposarcoma. The orchidectomy specimen confirmed a grade 2 right paratesticular myxoid liposarcoma. Despite its rarity, clinicians must consider this tumor i

Myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma of the falciform ligament: a rare case report.

Liposarcomas are a group of malignancies that mainly affect adults. Myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma (MPL) is a newly added subtype of liposarcomas [1]. It is extremely rare and mostly affects infants and children, and it has a predilection for the mediastinum. We report a case of a 58-years-old female with MPL originating from the falciform ligament who presented initially with vague abdominal pain. MPLs have an aggressive pathology and high metastasis and recurrence potential.

Myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma in the teres minor muscle: A case report.

RATIONALE: Myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma (MPL) is a rare aggressive adipocytic tumor that mainly presents in children and adolescents. It is most frequently observed in the mediastinum and rarely in the head and neck, perineal region, or back. Herein, we report the first published case of MPL of the teres minor muscle. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 24-years-old woman presented with a painless palpable mass in her right shoulder. DIAGNOSES: Magnetic resonance imaging identified a 9.0 × 7.0 × 4.0 cm mass suspected to be a sarcoma in the teres minor muscle. Positron emission tomography/computed tomograp

Myxoid Liposarcoma: A Case Report of a Rare Location in the Abdominal Wall.

Liposarcomas are considered to be the most common soft tissue sarcomas and have five histological subtypes. The myxoid subtype often occurs in the lower limbs and the retroperitoneum; however, the abdominal wall location is extremely rare. The clinical presentation and radiological findings are non-specific. Wide local excision with a minimum margin of 3 cm remains the mainstay of treatment to prevent local recurrences. We herein report a rare location of myxoid liposarcoma in the abdominal wall.

Pathological characterization of primary splenic myxoid liposarcomas in three dogs.

Non-angiomatous-non-lymphomatous sarcomas (NANLs) represent 23%-34% of canine primary splenic sarcomas. Splenic liposarcomas account for 2%-6% of NANLs but myxoid variants are rarely reported and information on their behaviour is fragmentary. An 8-year-old male crossbreed (case 1), a 12-year-old female French bulldog (case 2), and an 11-year-old crossbreed (case 3) underwent splenectomy after the detection of a splenic nodule. Histology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were performed. Bundles of spindle-to-polygonal cells containing occasional c

A case of myxoid liposarcoma of the retroperitoneum: a challenging tumour for diagnosis and treatment.

Retroperitoneal sarcomas are rare neoplasms that account for only 1%-2% of all solid tumors and liposarcomas represent the most frequent histological type. We describe the case of a 44-year-old female with a retroperitoneal myxoid liposarcoma of 22 × 19 × 8 cm in size. The only symptoms were persistent pain and progressive tenderness of the abdomen lasting for two months. The mass was radically excised during laparotomy. CT and MRI were useful to clarify the site of origin of the tumor, relationships with other organs, and planning surgery but final diagnosis was based on histological findings

[Myxoid liposarcoma of the anterior mediastinum. A case report and bibliography review].

UNLABELLED: Five cases per year. Of those cases 50% are located in the extremities and 40% are located in the trunk and retroperitoneum. Primary mediastinal liposarcomas represent less than 1% of mediastinal tumors. CLINICAL CASE: A 53 year old female, native and resident of Tabasco, with a history of anterior mediastinal tumor was treated with resection at the National Institute of Cancerology about 16 years ago with histopathological diagnosis of pleomorphic liposarcoma. She started her condition with chest pain, cough and hyaline expectoration, managed as pneumonia in her unit. Other sympt

Myxoid liposarcoma of the spermatic cord: US and MR imaging findings.

We report a patient with myxoid liposarcoma of the spermatic cord in whom combined use of both ultrasound (US) and MRI helped to suggest the diagnosis. The lesion was solid at US and vascularized at color Doppler. T1-weighted MRI did not show fat within it; on T2-weighted images it had high signal intensity, with a cyst-like appearance. It is known that fat-poor myxoid liposarcomas with high water content may mimic a cystic lesion on non-contrast-enhanced MR; then, a combination of MRI findings, suggesting a cyst, and of US findings, showing the mass was actually solid and vascularized, allowe

Myxoid liposarcoma of the spermatic cord: a case report and review of the literature.

Myxoid liposarcoma of the spermatic cord (MLSC) is a rare variance of spermatic sarcomas, with only 14 previous cases having been reported. Typically it presents during the seventh decade of life as a painless scrotal or inguinal mass. Although local recurrences are not uncommon, prognosis following complete tumour removal is good because metastases are rare. We describe one new case of a 24-year-old male with incidental MLSC found during inguinal hernia repair, and also review the existing literature.

Eribulin Provides a Remarkable Effect in Trabectedin-Resistant Myxoid Liposarcoma.

Adriamycin-based chemotherapy is commonly used for malignant soft tissue sarcoma including myxoid liposarcoma. However, in the case of unavailability or failure of the adriamycin-based regimen, trabectedin or eribulin can produce a good antitumor effect for myxoid liposarcoma. We relate the experience of a 64-year-old female with myxoid liposarcoma, who noticed a nodule on her left thigh and visited our institute. At initial presentation, the tumor was 18.7 cm in diameter, and the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a malignant lipomatous tumor with a myxoid component. We recommended that

Myxoid liposarcoma: local relapse and metastatic pattern in 43 patients.

BACKGROUND: Liposarcomas are the second most common type of soft tissue sarcomas, 30-50% of these are of myxoid subtype. The aim of this retrospective study was to analyze the local control rate, the metastatic pattern and survival of patients in a consecutive single-institution series. METHODS: From 1983 to 2015, 43 patients with myxoid liposarcoma of the extremities and trunk wall underwent resections. The margin was defined as R0 (wide) or R1 (marginal). Patients were followed for evidence of local recurrence or distant metastasis. Overall and recurrence-free survival was calculated. RESU

Mediastinal Myxoid Liposarcoma with Intrapericardial Involvement and Large Pericardial Effusion.

Liposarcoma is the name given to a group of soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) with adipocytic differentiation. As a group, liposarcomas are the second most common STSs in adults. In 1951 Kozonis et al published that in the English language only four cases of liposarcomas originating in the mediastinum had been described. Primary mediastinal liposarcoma is an uncommon neoplasm of intrathoracic origin. We present the case of a 47-year-old woman diagnosed with a large mediastinal mass with intrapericardial invasion and massive pericardial effusion; biopsies showed a mediastinal liposarcoma.

Well-Differentiated Liposarcoma of the Hypopharynx Exhibiting Myxoid Liposarcoma-like Morphology with MDM2 and DDIT3 Co-Amplification.

Well-differentiated liposarcoma (WDL) is one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas in adults. It has a predilection for middle-aged males and arises in deep-seated locations such as retroperitoneum, mediastinum, and spermatic cord. Its occurrence in young individuals at the hypopharyngeal region is an exceedingly rare event. Myxoid liposarcoma (ML)-like changes can seldom occur in some cases of WDL, which makes the diagnosis of WDL more challenging. Amplification of DDIT3 gene in a subset of cases of WDL has shown to be associated with such unique morphology. Herein, we present a case of a 3

OBJECTIVE: To describe the incidence and distribution of skeletal and extraskeletal metastases in myxoid liposarcoma (MLS) on staging whole-body MRI (WB-MRI) and CT chest, abdomen, and pelvis (CT-CAP), to inform initial staging protocols. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective review of staging WB-MRI and CT-CAP performed within 60 days in 57 histologically proven MLS cases at a quaternary sarcoma center (October 2018 to August 2022). Findings were classified by consensus as normal, indeterminate, or metastasis (bone, lung, and soft tissue). Primary tumor characteristics were compared between m

Lack of radiosensitivity predicts poor disease specific survival in myxoid liposarcoma.

BACKGROUND: Compared to other sarcomas, myxoid liposarcoma (ML) is known to be radiosensitive, with improved oncologic outcomes. Although these tumors "shrink" following radiotherapy, there is a paucity of data examining the degree of radiosensitivity and oncologic outcome. The purpose of the study was to evaluate pre- and postradiotherapy tumor volume to determine if size reduction impacts outcome. METHODS: We reviewed 62 patients with ML undergoing surgical resection combined with preoperative radiotherapy, with pre- and postradiotherapy MRI. This included 34 (55%) males, with a mean age of

Recurrent massive myxoid liposarcoma in retroperitoneum 10 years post initial operation.

INTRODUCTION: Myxoid liposarcoma tends to be a relatively good prognosis. Follow-up is recommended once a year from the 5th year after surgery. CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old man had a massive retroperitoneal tumor, measuring approximately 20 cm. Resection of a huge myxoid liposarcoma had been performed on his back 10 years ago and the weight of the mass was 14 kg. The tumor was resected from the right kidney and its weight was 3.6 kg. Pathological examination showed myxoid liposarcoma and therefore, the tumor was diagnosed as recurrent. But after the resection, no recurrence or metastasis
