Genitourinary neoplasms, including bladder, prostate, renal, and testicular cancers, represent 25% of all solid tumors worldwide. Great advances have been achieved in the last few decades in diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. Among these, liquid biopsy (LB) technology has evolved during the past few years and offers emerging and novel modalities in the field of oncology. LB is performed by withdrawing bodily fluids (i.e., blood or urine) and looking for circulating tumor DNA, circulating tumor cells, extracellular vesicles, and non-coding RNAs, among others. Over the past years, several te

Proactively predicting antidepressant treatment response before medication failures is crucial, as it reduces unsuccessful attempts and facilitates the development of personalized therapeutic strategies, ultimately enhancing treatment efficacy. The current decision-making process, which heavily depends on subjective indicators, underscores the need for an objective, indicator-based approach. This study developed a method for detecting depression and predicting treatment response through deep learning-based spectroscopic analysis of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from plasma. EVs were isolated fr

Normal and tumor cells shed vesicles to the environment. Within the large family of extracellular vesicles, exosomes and microvesicles have attracted much attention in the recent years. Their interest ranges from mediators of cancer progression, inflammation, immune regulation and metastatic niche regulation, to non-invasive biomarkers of disease. In this respect, the procedures to purify and analyze extracellular vesicles have quickly evolved and represent a source of variability for data integration in the field. In this review, we provide an updated view of the potential of exosomes and mic

Glioblastoma remains highly aggressive, with limited treatment response and poor prognosis. Tissue biopsy (TB) is invasive and fail to capture tumor heterogeneity or temporal dynamics. Liquid biopsy (LB) provides a noninvasive alternative for real-time monitoring via circulating biomarkers, including cell-free DNA (cfDNA), circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), circulating tumor cells (CTCs), and extracellular vesicles (EVs) in plasma, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), urine, and saliva. This review advances beyond prior biomarker catalogs by delivering a quantitative technology scorecard comparing cfDNA-, C

Liquid biopsy (LB) has rapidly emerged as a minimally invasive approach to detecting tumor-derived material in the bloodstream, including circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), circulating tumor cells, and extracellular vesicles. For colorectal surgeons, LB offers a dynamic measure of tumor biology that complements pathological staging and guides postoperative management beyond conventional anatomy-based risk stratification. A scoping review was conducted to evaluate the clinical implications of liquid biopsy in colorectal cancer. PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were systematically searched.

Liquid biopsy refers to the analysis of tumor-derived components in blood to enable minimally invasive cancer detection and characterization. Circulating tumor cells, circulating tumor DNA, and tumor-derived extracellular vesicles have demonstrated diagnostic and prognostic potential in colorectal cancer (CRC). As liquid biopsy allows for real-time, repeatable assessment of the tumor burden and may capture molecular heterogeneity across primary and metastatic sites, it has emerged as a promising tool for CRC screening. Early studies have suggested the feasibility of CRC detection; however, its

Ovarian cancer is one of the most aggressive gynecologic malignancies, with a vast majority of patients diagnosed at advanced stages owing to the lack of available early detection methods. Liquid biopsy, a noninvasive method for detecting circulating biomarkers such as circulating tumor cells (CTCs), cell-free DNA (cfDNA), exosomes, and a wide range of non-coding RNAs (including microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs, and circular RNAs), enables the detection of ovarian cancer using composite biomarker panels tailored for disease specificity. Liquid biopsy-based diagnostics have also made a significa

Exosome-derived microRNAs (miRNAs) are potential biomarkers for lung cancer detection and monitoring through liquid biopsy. These small, non-coding RNA molecules are found within exosomes, which are extracellular vesicles released from cells. Their stability in biofluids, such as blood, positions them as candidates for minimally invasive diagnostics. Multiple studies have shown that lung cancer patients exhibit distinct miRNA profiles compared to healthy individuals. This finding suggests that exosome-derived miRNAs could serve as valuable biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and evaluating th

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: With the advent and implementation of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays, differentiation of patients with distinct types of myocardial injuries, including acute thrombotic myocardial infarction (TMI), acute non-thrombotic myocardial injury (nTMi), and chronic coronary atherosclerotic disease (cCAD), is of pressing clinical importance. Thermal liquid biopsy (TLB) emerges as a valuable diagnostic tool, relying on identifying thermally induced conformational changes of biomolecules in blood plasma. While TLB has proven useful in detecting and monitoring several cancers

The assessment of the cancer mutational profile is crucial for patient management, stratification, and therapeutic decisions. At present, in hematological malignancies with a solid mass, such as lymphomas, tumor genomic profiling is generally performed on the tissue biopsy, but the tumor may harbor genetic lesions that are unique to other anatomical compartments. The analysis of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) on the liquid biopsy is an emerging approach that allows genotyping and monitoring of the disease during therapy and follow-up. This review presents the different methods for ctDNA analysi

Precise classification of central nervous system (CNS) malignancies is vital for the treatment and prognostication. Identification of noninvasive markers can be of importance to guide treatment decisions and in monitoring treatment response. CNS tumors are classified based on morphology with an essential complement of molecular changes, including mutations, amplifications, and methylation. Neuroimaging is the mainstay for initial diagnosis and monitoring tumor response with obvious limitations of imprecise tumor typing and no information on diagnostic, predictive and prognostic markers. Liquid

In this article, we broadly review the application of cfDNA analysis to the diagnosis and management of lymphoma. We introduce the advantages of cfDNA measurement over conventional tissue biopsy and describe how cfDNA may be utilized for both genotyping and detection of minimal residual disease. First, we discuss genotyping, beginning with differences in identifying mutations from the blood plasma vs. from circulating cells. We review the technical distinctions between PCR- and NGS-based assays and describe two important applications of NGS-based cfDNA tests, namely the identification of resis

BACKGROUND: Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) remains the standard biomarker for prostate cancer (PCa) detection, but its limited specificity-particularly in the 3-10 ng/mL range-leads to overdiagnosis and unnecessary biopsies. Including multiparameteric MRI (mpMRI) helps to reduce the number of PSA-false-positive biopsies, but there is still a need for noninvasive diagnostics that improve risk stratification and reduce unnecessary interventions.
METHODS: PROSTest is a peripheral blood-based assay that quantifies a 27-gene signature in the androgen receptor (AR) signaling pathway in addition to

Ovarian cancer (OC) is the most lethal gynecologic malignancy worldwide. One of the main challenges in the management of OC is the late clinical presentation of disease that results in poor survival. Conventional tissue biopsy methods and serological biomarkers such as CA-125 have limited clinical applications. Liquid biopsy is a novel sampling method that analyzes distinctive tumour components released into the peripheral circulation, including circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA), circulating tumour cells (CTCs), cell-free RNA (cfRNA), tumour-educated platelets (TEPs) and exosomes. Tumor biopsy can identify prognostic biomarkers for metastatic uveal melanoma (UM), however aqueous humor (AH) liquid biopsy may serve as an adjunct. This study investigated whether the AH of UM eyes has sufficient circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) to perform genetic analysis. This is a case series of 37 AH samples, taken before or after radiation, and one tumor wash sample, from 12 choroidal and 8 ciliary body (CB) melanoma eyes. AH was analyzed for nucleic acid concentrations. AH DNA and one tumor wash sample underwent shallow whole-genome sequencing followed by Illumina sequencing to detect som
