Frustrated magnetism in 227 rare-earth iridium pyrochlores.

Rare-earth pyrochlore oxides A₂B₂O₇ provide a versatile platform for studying how geometrical frustration, strong spin-orbit coupling, and electronic correlations cooperate to generate unconventional magnetic and electronic states. Within this family, the iridium pyrochlores A₂Ir₂O₇ stand out due to the interplay between a 5d Ir sublattice and, in many members, a magnetic 4f A-site sublattice, giving rise to a hierarchy of coupled structural, magnetic, and transport phenomena. Recent theoretical proposals suggest that this interplay may support magnetic monopole-like excitations, both of spin-

[Spontaneous tendinous rupture in systemic lupus erythematosus. Presentation of 2 cases].

Spontaneous tendinous breakage is a rare complication in patients with systemic erythematous lupus. Bilateral tendinous breakage is an exceptional phenomena. Two cases of bilateral spontaneous breakage are discussed, one achillea, the other patellar, its frequency is compared in the scientific literature with the one found in the patients at our center. Magnetic Resonance usefulness is underlined to confirm the diagnosis of tendinous breakage.

Excitonic negative refraction mediated by magnetic orders.

Excitons are prevalent in many bosonic quantum phenomena in semiconductors. During their optical transitions, excitons not only emit or absorb photons, but also determine light propagation behaviours within the host medium. While absorption and emission processes have found numerous practical applications, chiefly in light-emitting diodes and solar cells, excitons' capability of manipulating light propagation remains largely underexplored. Here we observe negative refraction-light bending in the opposite direction to conventional refraction-in an excitonic van der Waals magnet, namely chromium

Strong variation of spin-orbit torques with relative spin relaxation rates in ferrimagnets.

Spin-orbit torques (SOTs) have been widely understood as an interfacial transfer of spin that is independent of the bulk properties of the magnetic layer. Here, we report that SOTs acting on ferrimagnetic FexTb1-x layers decrease and vanish upon approaching the magnetic compensation point because the rate of spin transfer to the magnetization becomes much slower than the rate of spin relaxation into the crystal lattice due to spin-orbit scattering. These results indicate that the relative rates of competing spin relaxation processes within magnetic layers play a critical role in determining th

Experimental observation of dual magnetic states in topological insulators.

The recently discovered topological phase offers new possibilities for spintronics and condensed matter. Even insulating material exhibits conductivity at the edges of certain systems, giving rise to an anomalous quantum Hall effect and other coherent spin transport phenomena, in which heat dissipation is minimized, with potential uses for next-generation energy-efficient electronics. While the metallic surface states of topological insulators (TIs) have been extensively studied, direct comparison of the surface and bulk magnetic properties of TIs has been little explored. We report unambiguou

Ni12(HPO4)6(PO4)2(OH)6: a compound with coupled frustrated hexagons of alternating ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions.

Frustrated magnets offer a unique playground for exploring emergent quantum phenomena. We report the synthesis, structural details, and magnetic properties ofS= 1 frustrated system Ni12(HPO4)6(PO4)2(OH)6through magnetization and specific heat measurements along with the density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The titled compound hosts a three-dimensional frustrated spin-lattice wherein Ni2+(S= 1) magnetic moments constitute hexagonal rings. The DFT electronic structure calculation reveals that Ni2+moments in the hexagonal rings have alternate ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM

Method for Identifying Seismokinetic Effects in Earth's Magnetic Field Measurements.

Analysis of variations in the components of the Earth's magnetic field, recorded at the magnetic observatory of the Institute of Ionosphere (Almaty, Kazakhstan) during the earthquakes of 22 January 2024 and 4 March 2024, showed that these fluctuations were not related to intrinsic variations in the magnetic field itself, but rather to mechanical oscillations of the magnetometer together with its support. Evidence supporting the seismokinetic origin of the variations in the vector magnetometer was the discrepancy between the total magnetic field measured by the absolute magnetometer and the tot

Magnetic coil suppression of visual perception at an extracalcarine site.

Perception of extrafoveal visual targets can be suppressed by magnetic stimulation over the occipital lobes, but the site of interference for this and similar phenomena has not been well defined. We modified a previously used technique to determine the locus of magnetic activation. Using butterfly stimulus coils of different sizes and electric field profiles, we determined a scalp position of minimum threshold and a level of stimulator output that produced 50% error rates for each coil. Intersection of the corresponding electric field profiles in air and in a saline model head was similar and

Lessons fromα-RuCl3for pursuing quantum spin liquid physics in atomically thin materials.

Quantum spin liquids can arise from Kitaev magnetic interactions, and exhibit fractionalized excitations with the potential for a topological form of quantum computation. This review surveys recent experimental and theoretical progress on the pursuit of phenomena related to Kitaev magnetism in layered and exfoliatable materials, which offer numerous opportunities to apply powerful techniques from the field of atomically thin materials. We primarily focus on the antiferromagnetic Mott insulatorα-RuCl3, which exhibits Kitaev couplings and is readily exfoliated to single- or few-layer sheets, and

Novel nanohybrids derived from the attachment of FePt nanoparticles on carbon nanotubes.

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were used as nanotemplates for the dispersion and stabilization of FePt nanoparticles (NPs). Pre-formed capped FePt NPs were connected to the MWCNTs external surface via covalent binding through organic linkers. Free FePt NPs and MWCNTs-FePt hybrids were annealed in vacuum at 700 degrees C in order to achieve the L1(0) ordering of the FePt phase. Both as prepared and annealed samples were characterized and studied using a combination of experimental techniques, such as Raman and Mössbauer spectroscopies, powder X-ray Diffraction (XRD), magnetization and tr

3D Topological Inorganic Electrides: Screening, Properties, and Applications.

The convergence of inorganic electrides and topological quantum phenomena has ushered in novel paradigms for designing advanced quantum materials. While low-dimensional (0-2D) topological inorganic electrides have garnered considerable attention, their three-dimensional (3D) counterparts-featuring intricate interstitial electron networks-remain entirely uncharted territory. Herein, the identification of twelve 3D inorganic electrides within the rare-earth hydride family is reported, nine of which are previously unreported. First-principles calculations reveal a diverse magnetic landscape: two

Efficient Prediction of Highly Anisotropic Excitonic Properties in the Layered Antiferromagnet CrSBr via Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory.

CrSBr, a layered anisotropic van der Waals antiferromagnet, has recently emerged as a versatile platform where strong coupling between optical excitations and magnetic order enables magneto-optical control at low dimensions. While experiments have progressed rapidly, predictive and reliable ab initio descriptions remain limited to self-consistent, many-body perturbation theory, which is computationally expensive and technically challenging. Here, we present an alternative approach that accurately predicts the electronic and optical properties of CrSBr at substantially lower computational cost,

Magnetic anisotropy and planar topological Hall effect in SrMnxIr1-xO3films.

Strong Coulomb repulsion and spin-orbit coupling are known to give rise to exotic physical phenomena in transition metal oxides. Here, we report magnetic and transport characteristics of (001) oriented epitaxial SrMnxIr1-xO3thin films, having both 3dand 5delements on the perovskiteBsites. With the increase of Mn concentration, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) decreases gradually in accompany with the magnetic easy axis tilting away from the out-of-plane [001] direction. X-ray absorption spectroscopy reveals that Mnegelectrons preferentially occupy thed3z2-r2orbital, which produces the o

Quantum Statistics of Vortices from a Dual Theory of the XY Ferromagnet.

We extend the well-known mapping between the easy-plane ferromagnet and electrostatics in d=2 spatial dimensions to dynamical and quantum phenomena in a d=2+1 spacetime. Ferromagnetic vortices behave like quantum particles with an electric charge equal to the vortex number and a magnetic flux equal to the transverse spin of the vortex core. Vortices with half-integer core spin exhibit fermionic statistics.

The role of magnetic resonance in necrosis of the femoral epiphysis as the sequelae of acetabular fracture (preliminary results).

Eleven patients surgically treated for fracture of the acetabulum were examined postoperatively by MRI in order to reveal any signs of necrosis of the femoral head at an early stage. The means of osteosynthesis used underwent preliminary testing in order to exclude magnetic or thermal phenomena. The study confirmed the usefulness of this test in the early diagnosis of this serious complication. In 3 cases the presence of the means of osteosynthesis obstructed a correct interpretation of the images.

Evidence for Magnon-Assisted Exciton Radiation in a Layered Antiferromagnetic Semiconductor.

Layered van der Waals (vdW) magnetic semiconductors open a new avenue for exploring intertwined excitonic and magnetic phenomena. Here, we investigate this interplay in the vdW antiferromagnet MnPS_{3}, uncovering an exceptionally long exciton lifetime (∼100  μs) below the Néel temperature (T_{N}). We demonstrate that the exciton lifetime is primarily governed by phonon-assisted nonradiative recombination and thus exhibits a strong temperature dependence. In contrast, the exciton radiative recombination shows a distinct temperature dependence that is sensitive to magnetic order. Below T_{N}, t

Strain-tunable Berry curvature in quasi-two-dimensional chromium telluride.

Magnetic transition metal chalcogenides form an emerging platform for exploring spin-orbit driven Berry phase phenomena owing to the nontrivial interplay between topology and magnetism. Here we show that the anomalous Hall effect in pristine Cr2Te3 thin films manifests a unique temperature-dependent sign reversal at nonzero magnetization, resulting from the momentum-space Berry curvature as established by first-principles simulations. The sign change is strain tunable, enabled by the sharp and well-defined substrate/film interface in the quasi-two-dimensional Cr2Te3 epitaxial films, revealed b
