BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The curve of Spee is a naturally occurring phenomenon in the human dentition. Leveling the curve of Spee can affect the Frankfort-mandibular plane (FMP) Angle and thus the lower anterior facial height. This study examined the degree of change in FMP angle after leveling the curve of Spee in different malocclusion groups.
METHODS: In this study, 75 patients who were aged >14 years and had undergone fixed appliance therapy using a 0.022-slot MBT bracket system were included. The pre- and post-treatment casts and lateral cephalograms of the patients were divided into t

Class III dysmorphia, classically distributed in hereditary or functional etiology, have often multifactorial causes. Breaking the dysmorpho-dysfunctional cascade with early treatment may seem to be an essential alternative to give growth a new orientation. Whether the treatments are preventive, interceptive with or without an appliance, orthodontic or surgical (early, first-line or late), this takes more account of the clinical form than of age. The authors, through clinical cases, will develop their therapeutic approach, based on clinical common sense. Waiting to act at the right time is ess

OBJECTIVE: To compare second molar angulation to the occlusal plane with cephalometric measurements corresponding to AP skeletal discrepancy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 72 patients' pre-orthodontic records were analyzed. A plane was constructed along the cusps of the upper second molar and measured to a proxy for the occlusal plane. The angle between the planes was measured. ANB, Wits appraisal, U1-SN, IMPA, A-B perpendicular to Frankfort, and overjet were measured on the patients' cephalograms. Generalized additive mixed model analysis was performed to analyze the relationship between the second

BACKGROUND: Ankyloglossia is a congenital alteration that affects the tongue's mobility, influencing craniofacial development; however, its association with malocclusion is still unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the association between ankyloglossia and malocclusion in patients.
TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED: The authors conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies that investigated the association between malocclusion and the presence of ankyloglossia in any age group, used any assessment tool to diagnose ankyloglossia, and considered all

As improvements in diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical techniques have evolved it has become increasingly more common to consider simultaneous mobilization of the maxilla and mandible in order to achieve optimal correction of selected dentofacial deformities. In the experiences of the authors, there are patients with specific deformities of the Class III, Class II, Class I, and asymmetry types who can benefit from simultaneous mobilization of both jaws. It is the purpose of this article, the first in a series of three, to detail those specific conditions which warrant consideration for

Differential patterns of craniofacial growth are important sources of variation that can result in skeletal malocclusion. Understanding the timing of growth milestones and morphological change associated with adult skeletal malocclusions is critical for developing individualized orthodontic growth modification strategies. To identify patterns in the timing and geometry of growth, we used Bayesian modeling of cephalometrics and geometric morphometric analyses with a dense, longitudinal sample consisting of 15,407 cephalograms from 1,913 individuals between 2 and 31 years of age. Individuals wer

The article describes the orthodontically treated case of a 25-year-old patient with skeletal and dental class III malocclusion, anterior crossbite, which caused functional and aesthetic problems, occlusal trauma, and incisor wear. Treatment with transparent aligners was proposed to meet the patient's needs, using the sequential distalization protocol. While sequential distalization is well documented for class II malocclusion treatment in maxillary arch teeth, further investigations are necessary for class III malocclusions. In fact, lower teeth movements are more complex due to mandibular bo

INTRODUCTION: Tooth size ratio is important for optimal dentofacial esthetics, occlusal interdigitation, and postorthodontic treatment stability. Tooth geometry influences tooth size ratio; therefore, tooth size normative data may not be practical across diverse ethnic groups. This study aimed to determine whether there are significant differences in 3-dimensional tooth size among patients in the Hispanic population with Angle Class I, II, and III malocclusions.
METHODS: The data were collected using intraoral scanned orthodontic study models representing Hispanic orthodontic patients with An
