Airway compromise is life threatening complication in the maxillofacial fracture. However, the incident of the airway compromise following mandibular fracture was little known. Maxillofacial fractures during the past 3 years from 2017 to 2020 were investigated retrospectively. There were 154 patients with maxillofacial fractures were noted in the past 3 years. Mandibular fractures accounted for 93% of the maxillofacial fracture. The most common cause of injury was falls (75%), followed by sports (12%). Of these, 3 cases (1.9%) needed an airway management at the time of initial treatment, and a

The mandibular fracture takes the second position among facial bones fractures, with significant increase of cases in the last years. The aim of this paper is to report a clinical case of a patient with facial trauma due to an automotive accident, resulting in an atypical fracture in a unilateral mandibular angle. In the image examinations an atypical favorable fracture in the right mandibular angle region involving the apex of the erupted 48 tooth was found. The fracture line started in the posterior region of mandibular ramus, below mandibular condyle, and spread out until inferior border of

Mandibular fractures represent approximately two-thirds of all maxillofacial fractures (nearly 70%), out of which fractures of mandibular ramus represent 3.09% which is considered to be a rare fracture site. They occur alone or in combination with other facial bone fractures resulting in loss of function and disfigurement. The pattern of mandibular fractures varies with geographic location, physical activity, social, cultural, and environmental factors. The main causes of mandibular fracture are road traffic accidents, interpersonal violence, falls, sports injuries, industrial trauma, and path

We present 35 cases of mandibular fracture treated at the Suita Municipal Hospital between 1994 and 2002. Results showed a male predominance by 2 to 1 and the highest occurrence of trauma in the 20-29 year age group (31%). Major causes of fractures were traffic accidents (52%), assaults (31%), and falls (17%). The most common fracture sites were, in descending order, the condyle (33%), parasymphysis (25%), angle (22%), body (10%), and ramus (10%). The cause of fractures in patients less than 30 years old is most likely due to traffic accidents and assaults, while that in patients over 30 years

A total of 124 patients treated for mandibular fractures were analyzed. Patients were divided into three groups according to treatment: intermaxillary fixation, wire fixation and mini-plate fixation. For each method, the success of treatment was evaluated with respect to surgical approach, fracture site and injury to treatment interval. Five basic parameters were used for evaluation of the outcome: occlusion, appearance, mastication, duration of IMF and complications. The treatment was surveyed based on both the surgeon's and patient's-evaluation. All parameters were scored and average values

There are significant discrepancies in the reported prevalence of condylar process fractures among all mandibular fractures (16.5-56%) in the available literature. In addition, it seems that the actual number of difficult-to-treat fractures of the mandibular head is unknown. The purpose of this study is to present the current incidence of the different types of mandibular process fractures with a special focus on mandibular head fractures. The medical records of 386 patients with single or multiple mandibular fractures were reviewed. Of the fractures found, 58% were body fractures, 32% were an

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective, descriptive observational study.
OBJECTIVE: The need for revision surgery after mandibular fractures is an indicator for severe postoperative complications. This study aimed to characterise this patient cohort, describe solutions to deal with complications and evaluate treatment quality as a risk variable for complications.
METHODS: Patients with revision surgery with refixation after open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of a mandible fracture were included. Patient- and therapy-specific information were assessed together with postoperative complications.

Mandibular fractures are among the most common maxillofacial fractures observed in emergency rooms and are mainly caused by road accidents. The clinical features of mandibular fractures include malocclusion and loss of mandibular function. Panoramic radiography is usually limited to isolated lesions, whereas computed tomography is the tool of choice for all other facial traumatic events. No reference standard classification system for the different types of mandibular fractures is defined. Therapeutic options include a conservative approach or surgical treatment based on the anatomic area and

INTRODUCTION: Early surgical management is often advocated for fractures of the tooth-bearing portion of the mandible. A 6-hour delay has been mentioned for the fixation of these fractures. Our aim was to bring this paradigm into question.
METHODS: All patients referred to our department from September 2012 to May 2014 for fractures of the tooth-bearing portion of the mandible were retrospectively included. For each patient, age, gender, aetiology of the fracture, and characteristics of the fractures were recorded. Tobacco and/or alcohol addictions, diabetes and mandibular dental condition we

PRACTICAL RELEVANCE: Mandibular fractures occur commonly in cats and appropriate treatment is vital to ensure restoration of dental occlusion and masticatory function.
CLINICAL CHALLENGES: Historically, a relatively high complication rate has been reported in association with mandibular fracture repair, and these complications can represent a significant challenge for the veterinary surgeon.
AUDIENCE: General practitioners as well as specialists in small animal surgery are presented with fractures of the mandible on a regular basis.
PATIENT GROUP: Cats of all ages can suffer mandibular frac

The conservative approach in the treatment of maxillofacial trauma in children has been widely adopted. The type of fracture and its presence within the growing facial skeleton along with the presence of tooth buds may result in different management strategies to that employed in adults. An understanding of conservative treatment options is essential to make informed choices which will best manage these injuries, and an example is presented in this paper. This case report describes a 14-year-old boy who sustained trauma to the chin as a result of a fall, causing a mandibular symphyseal fractur

Seventeen patients, who presented mandibular fractures following third molar removal, were treated in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University Hospital Freiburg between 2000 and 2004. Clinical and radiological data were analysed to evaluate the possible risk of fracture following third molar removal. Our data show an increased rate of pathological mandibular fractures in males over 40 years of age, following removal of a difficult lower wisdom tooth with a high retention grade that necessitated bone removal. Fourteen out of 17 fractures occurred postoperatively. In si
