Magnet Recognition, Leadership Responsiveness, and Nurse Moral Distress: A Multilevel Mediation Analysis.

PURPOSE: Moral distress is a pervasive challenge in nursing and has been associated with burnout, job dissatisfaction, and turnover. Although Magnet Recognition has been associated with more favorable nursing practice environments and nurse outcomes, little is known about the association between Magnet status and nurses' experiences of moral distress or the role of leadership responsiveness in this association. This study examined whether management responsiveness to patient care concerns accounted for part of the association between hospital Magnet status and nurse moral distress. DESIGN: Th

Sex Differences in Age-Related Functional Mobility Decline: A Moderated Mediation Analysis.

While functional mobility is known to deteriorate with age, the specific mechanisms driving this decline, along with potential differences between men and women, are not fully established. Therefore, the present study applied a moderated mediation framework to investigate whether lower limb strength and body mass index (BMI) mediate the relationship between aging and functional mobility, and to explore if sex acts as a moderator in these relationships. A cross-sectional design was used to evaluate 408 independent older adults (mean age: 71.9 ± 3.9 years; 273 females and 135 males). Assessments

Negative Mood Regulation Expectancies, Affect and Suicidal Ideation: A Moderated Mediation Analysis.

Better understanding of the aetiology of suicidal ideation, including modifiable and protective factors, can enhance preventive strategies. Negative mood regulation expectancies ('NMRE'; beliefs in one's ability to alleviate negative mood) are associated with suicidal ideation and negative affect but little is known about the underlying mechanisms of these associations. We conducted secondary analyses of cross-sectional data from 1546 adults (69.8% female; Mean age = 34 years; 92% White) recruited from the community in Scotland, 32% of whom reported a lifetime history of suicidal ideation and

Postpartum Body Concerns, Self-Criticism, and Psychological Distress: A Parallel Mediation Analysis.

Background: Postpartum body concerns have been consistently associated with greater maternal psychological distress, although the psychological processes associated with this relationship remain insufficiently understood. This study examined whether self-criticism (inadequate self and hated self) and self-reassurance mediate the association between postpartum body concerns and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 540 Portuguese mothers of infants aged 2 weeks to 24 months. Participants completed measures of postpartum body concerns, t

Copper Promotes Breast Cancer through Immunometabolic Reprogramming: A Multi-omics Mediation Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Elevated copper (Cu) concentration or copper to zinc (Cu/Zn) ratio have been consistently observed in the blood and tumor tissues of patients with breast cancer, although the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of plasma Cu on breast cancer risk and the associated immunometabolic pathways. METHODS: We conducted a nested case-control study (226 matched pairs) within the Taizhou Longitudinal Study. Plasma levels of Cu and Zn were quantified, and large-scale proteomic and metabolomic profiling was performed. Structural equation

Imaginative Vulnerability and Symbolic Mediation: A Phenomenological Analysis in Schizophrenia-Spectrum Conditions.

INTRODUCTION: Imagination depends on symbolic mediation that sustains an as-if mode of experience. In schizophrenia-spectrum conditions, this mediation is structurally vulnerable, rendering imaginative activity unstable under intensified activation. Arts-based interventions have rarely specified the conditions under which imaginative activity remains symbolically mediated rather than becoming overwhelming. The present study examines how imaginative vulnerability is regulated in group-based creative writing. METHODS: The analysis draws on retrospective phenomenological interviews with 50 parti

Polygenic Mediation Analysis of Psychological Resilience and Outcomes in Taiwanese Young Adults.

Polygenic risk scores (PRSs) for psychiatric phenotypes correlate with state psychological outcomes, with resilience mediating this relationship, suggesting that genetic predisposition may increase mental health risk via lower resilience. Using national genome-wide data from Taiwan Biobank (TWB), we built PRS for psychiatric diagnosis (PD), major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder (BD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and schizophrenia (SCZ) based on single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with psychiatric phenotypes. To test our hypothesis, we conducted polygenic media

Invisible disabilities and college academic success: New evidence from a mediation analysis.

Students with "invisible" disabilities-including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit disorder (ADD/ADHD), learning disorders, and mental health conditions-make up an increasingly large share of college students in the United States. Despite these gains in access, students with invisible disabilities remain disadvantaged relative to their neurotypical and non-disabled peers in many parts of the college experience, including academically. Researchers have hypothesized that inequalities in pre-college academic preparation, barriers to social integration, and lower levels of engageme

Ambient particulate matter, maternal thyroid function, and birth weight: A mediation analysis.

BACKGROUND: Birth weight (BW) is an indicator of fetal growth and development. Previous studies showed inconsistent results on the association of ambient particulate matter (PM) exposure with BW, and the role of maternal thyroid function has not been clarified. METHODS: We recruited 1711 gravidas between 2017 and 2019 in Henan, China. All participants were followed up until delivery. Daily concentrations of PM, including PM2.5 and PM10, were evaluated by using the spatial-temporal model. Maternal thyroid hormone (TH) levels were quantified by electrochemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay.
