Flexible nanoporous chromium or iron terephtalates (BDC) MIL-53(Cr, Fe) or M(OH)[BDC] have been used as matrices for the adsorption and in vitro drug delivery of Ibuprofen (or alpha- p-isobutylphenylpropionic acid). Both MIL-53(Cr) and MIL-53(Fe) solids adsorb around 20 wt % of Ibuprofen (Ibuprofen/dehydrated MIL-53 molar ratio = 0.22(1)), indicating that the amount of inserted drug does not depend on the metal (Cr, Fe) constitutive of the hybrid framework. Structural and spectroscopic characterizations are provided for the solid filled with Ibuprofen. In each case, the very slow and complete

Persistent organic radicals are attractive building blocks for constructing functional metal-organic frameworks owing to their unique electronic, magnetic, and optical properties. However, tuning the ratio of open- and closed-shell organic linkers within a single metal-organic radical framework (MORF) has remained unexplored. Herein, we report the synthesis of multivariate MORFs incorporating perchlorotriphenylmethyl tricarboxylate (PTMTC) linkers in both their radical (PTMTCR) and non-radical (PTMTCNR) forms within the same crystalline structure. By simply varying the ratio of the starting PT

Cell-type selective metabolic labeling of glycans in complicated biological environments remains a big challenge. Herein, we develop a glycan labeling tool by encapsulating a non-natural azido sugar (ManNAz) into a mannosyl ligand-modified metal-organic framework (MOF) (MIL-101-Man). The mannosyl ligands multivalently displayed on the surface of the MOFs bind specifically to mannose receptors (MRs) expressed on the surface of a target cell to mediate targeted delivery of the unnatural sugar. Upon endocytosis, exposure of the MOFs to the acidic environment of the endosomes and lysosomes resulte

Naturally powdered metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) usually require packing for practical applications, where intercrystal interactions play pivotal roles. Herein, using an atomic force microscope with a MOF HKUST-1 crystallite-tipped probe, we directly find that the intercrystal adhesion energy of as-synthesized HKUST-1 with adsorbed water molecules is quadruple that of its activated counterpart. A similar large enhancement in the intercrystal adhesion energy of HKUST-1 due to water adsorption is also observed in molecular dynamics simulations, which is ascribed to the formation of strongly in

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can be prepared from oligomeric organic ligands to prepare materials referred to as oligoMOFs. Studies of oligoMOFs are relatively limited, with most existing reports focused on fundamental structure-property relationships. In this report, functional groups, such as terminal alkynes and pyridine groups, are installed on the tether between 1,4-benzene dicarboxylic acid (H2bdc) groups of the dimer ligands. It was found that the position of the pyridine donor atom had pronounced effects on the synthesis and structure of Zn(ii)-based isoreticular MOFs (IRMOF-1 analo

Volatile aldehydes cause great harm to human health and the living environment, and the detection of aldehydes has attracted much attention from chemists and material scientists. In recent years, as one of the most promising classes of functional materials, luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs) have bloomed as fluorescent sensors for the detection of aldehydes. Herein, the sensing properties of LMOF sensors toward formaldehyde, benzaldehyde, acetaldehyde and other aldehydes have been reviewed, and the sensing mechanism and applications are also illustrated. Additionally, the current sta

We report the dual postsynthetic modification (PSM) of a metal-organic framework (MOF) involving the microscopic conversion of C-H bonds into C-C bonds and the mesoscopic introduction of hierarchical porosity. MOF crystals underwent single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformations during the electrophilic aromatic substitution of Co2 (m-DOBDC) (m-DOBDC4- =4,6-dioxo-1,3-benzenedicarboxylate) with alkyl halides and formaldehyde. The steric hindrance caused by the proximity of the introduced functional groups to the coordination bonds reduced bond stability and facilitated the transformation into

Herein, europium metal-organic frameworks/hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (Eu-MOF/HOF) was synthesized via a solvothermal method, and a chemically bonded Eu-MOF/HOF-coated capillary column was fabricated. An open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) method based on Eu-MOF/HOF was developed. Characterization data demonstrated the effective formation of Eu-MOF/HOF and its firm bonding to the capillary interior surface. The effects of buffer concentration, pH, organic additive content, and applied voltage on the OT-CEC separation performance were systematically investigated using s

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are typically constructed by forming coordination bonds between inorganic nodes and organic linkers. Here we present an alternative framework chemistry that does not rely on coordination bonding but instead exploits proton-transfer-facilitated Coulombic and hydrogen-bonding interactions. Protonation of basic amine molecules by acidic Keggin-type polyoxometalates (POMs) generates complementary organic cations and inorganic anions that rapidly self-assemble into crystalline frameworks at room temperature upon simple solution mixing. Solvent acidity modulates proto

Surface-supported metal-organic frameworks (SURMOFs) have emerged as promising hybrid materials across diverse applications, including gas separation, energy storage, catalysis, and sensing. These capabilities are primarily associated with their high porosity and reasonable control over crystallinity. However, the diffusion of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in these structures remains poorly understood, limiting their range in strategic applications. One significant challenge is developing effective integration approaches that enable precise control of molecular transport in these structure

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a major threat to human life and health. The technologies currently used to remove VOCs mainly include adsorption and photocatalysis. Adsorption is the most straightforward strategy, but it cannot ultimately eliminate VOCs. Due to the limited binding surface, the formaldehyde adsorption on conventional photocatalysts is limited, and the photocatalytic degradation efficiency is not high enough. By developing novel metal-organic framework (MOF) materials that can catalytically degrade VOCs at room temperature, the organic combination of new MOF materials and

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) stand out as a preferred category of materials owing to their remarkable tunability and design flexibility for targeted applications. The fixation of carbon dioxide (CO2) into value-added chemicals, such as cyclic carbonates, often requires the use of cocatalysts. Herein, a series of MOFs were synthesized under solvothermal conditions by reacting 2,5-dibromoterephthalic acid (DBTA) with metal ions (M = Mn2+, Fe3+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+), termed M-DBTA. The choice of metal ions in M-DBTA plays a pivotal role in tuning structural attributes and catalytic efficien

Rational design of metal-organic framework (MOF)-based materials for catalysis, gas capture and storage, requires deep understanding of the host-guest interactions between the MOF and the adsorbed molecules. Solid-State NMR spectroscopy is an established tool for obtaining such structural information, however its low sensitivity limits its application. This limitation can be overcome with dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) which is based on polarization transfer from unpaired electrons to the nuclei of interest and, as a result, enhancement of the NMR signal. Typically, DNP is achieved by impr
