We report the pathological changes in liver biopsies from 10 patients (four female transexuals and six impotent males) after treatment with 150 mg methyltestosterone daily for periods of up to 3 years, and in a hemihepatectomy specimen from a female transexual who developed a liver adenoma after 37 months of this treatment. Adult males of African weakly discharging electric fish (family: Mormyridae) are distinguished from juveniles and adult females by a dorsally directed indentation of the posterior ventral body wall and by massive bone expansion of the bases of a select number of anal-fin rays. These sexually dimorphic structures seem to facilitate the anal-fin reflex that is displayed during courtship when the male envelopes its anal fin around the female's to form a common spawning pouch. Expanded bone could provide additional surface for muscle attachment and thus assist in part with the courtship sequence.

Male and female rats aged 3 days were injected intragastrically with methyltestosterone and STS 383 synthetic androgen in doses between 0.4-3.2 mg and 0.2-3.2 mg, respectively. PURPOSE: To study the effects of methyltestosterone, isolated or associated to estrogens, on the bladder and urethra of castrated adult rats.
MATERIAL & METHODS: A total of 59 castrated animals were studied. They were divided into the following groups: I--placebo; II--equine conjugated estrogens; III--methyltestosterone and conjugated estrogens; IV--methyltestosterone. After 28 days of medication the animals were sacrificed and bladder and urethra cuts were obtained for the evaluation of the number of vessels, the thickness of the epithelia, and the quantity of collagen and muscular fibers.

Klinefelter's syndrome (KFS) tends to be associated with immunological disorders. We describe a 37-year-old man who presented signs of testicular atrophy and decreased body hair. He showed pancytopenia and elevated levels of liver enzymes. Chromosome analysis revealed 47XXY karyotype; therefore, he was diagnosed with KFS, with systemic lupus erythematosus and autoimmune hepatitis.
