The Ki-M1P protein is primarily detected in cells deriving from the monocyte/macrophage cell lineage. The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence of Ki-M1P immunoreactivity in germinal center macrophages by immunohistochemical and immunocytochemical staining techniques. The localization of collagen types I, III and VI in normal human alveolar and palatal mucosa and in oral Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) was studied by light microscopy and cryo-immunoelectron microscopy. Rapid techniques for the detection of herpes simplex virus (HSV) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV) are needed for optimal therapeutic management. VZV infection poses a serious threat, especially to seriously ill patients, for instance, immunocompromised patients. Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and pemphigus foliaceus (PF) are autoimmune blistering diseases characterized by a loss of cell-cell adhesion and by autoantibodies directed against epidermal cadherins. Primary localized amyloidosis causing bilateral lacrimal enlargement is rare. The pathogenesis of amyloid deposition within the orbit and other body tissues has not been fully elucidated.
