Hepatitis-splenomegaly syndrome is caused by avian hepatitis E virus (aHEV), a nonenveloped, single-stranded RNA virus. The economic importance of this disease in the poultry industry is due to the decline in egg production (10%-40%) and the rise in mortality (1%-4%). In the present study, 1540 serum samples from 33 broiler breeder flocks were analyzed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the presence of an anti-aHEV antibody. In addition, a diagnostic nested reverse transcriptase-PCR was done on all farm samples. In the serologic study, 66.7% (22/33) of the flocks and 28.5% (439/1540)

A longitudinal study was undertaken to characterize the course of Cryptosporidium infection in a dairy goat farm located in western France. Two cohorts of twenty-five and fifteen animals, respectively, were sampled once a week from birth to weaning. Each individual fecal sample was screened using direct immunofluorescence (IFT) and if found positive, the Cryptosporidium species was identified using PCR analysis. Seventeen (68% [95% CI: 44-91]) animals were positive at least once during the first study and 14 (93% [95% CI: 80-100]) during the second, after IFT examination. In the first study, t

The emergence of Senecavirus A (SVA) as a causative agent of vesicular diseases in pigs is noteworthy, since it was identified in 2014 through outbreaks in Brazil. The SVA belongs to the Picornaviridae family and is a non-enveloped virus with the ability to adapt to the environment. As the virus's stability allows it to persist on farms post-outbreak, maintaining stringent biosecurity measures is crucial for effective control. This study aims to evaluate antibody response and viral RNA shedding in swine farms. Blood and fecal samples were collected from pigs in 2022 on farms that experienced o

Ticks are obligate hematophagous arachnids that parasitize both humans and animals. While considerable research in Malaysia has focused on bacterial detection in ticks, knowledge of tick-borne Anaplasma, Ehrlichia and Brucella in farm ruminants remains limited. In this study, 1,241 ticks comprising of four species (Rhipicephalus microplus, Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides, Haemaphysalis bispinosa, and Haemaphysalis wellingtoni) were collected from 674 farm ruminants across Peninsular Malaysia. The ticks were pooled and molecularly screened for Anaplasma and Ehrlichia using 16S rRNA gene primers,

Avian influenza virus (AIV) subtypes H5N1 and H9N2 co-circulate in poultry in Bangladesh, causing significant bird morbidity and mortality. Despite their importance to the poultry value chain, the role of farms in spreading and maintaining AIV infections remains poorly understood in most disease-endemic settings. To address this crucial gap, we conducted a cross-sectional study between 2017 and 2019 in the Chattogram Division of Bangladesh in clinically affected and dead chickens in farms with suspected AIV infection. Viral prevalence of each subtype was approximately 10% among farms for which
