INTRODUCTION: The diagnosis of Barrett's esophagus (BE) requires identification of goblet cells in esophageal columnar-lined epithelium. Forceps biopsies (FB) may miss goblet cells because of sampling error. In addition, pathologists may misidentify distended pseudogoblet cells as true goblet cells.
