Oncocytic mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a very rare variant of mucoepidermoid carcinoma, composed predominantly of oncocytic cells. Most previously reported cases described the difficulty in histologic differentiation from other oncocytic tumors. Here we report a case of oncocytic mucoepidermoid carcinoma of parotid gland diagnosed by the detection of CRTC1-MAML2 fusion. A 53-year-old man had a left superficial parotidectomy conducted for 3-cm-sized mass. The resected tumor was composed almost exclusively of oncocytic tumor cells. With detailed histologic evaluation, scarce vacuolated tumor cell

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the anal canal is a rare tumor. We herein report the case of a 74-year-old male patient with a high-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the anal canal who was treated by local surgical resection and subsequent irradiation. However, the patient succumbed to liver and lung metastases 2 years after the procedure. The characteristic findings of mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the anus remain unclear to date due to rarity of this tumor. Since 1954, when this type of tumor was first described, only 58 cases of patients diagnosed with mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the anus have be

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to assess whether mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the lacrimal sac is a counterpart of CRTC1/3-MAML2 gene fusion-related salivary gland mucoepidermoid carcinoma.
METHODS: In this retrospective observational case series, pathology records were searched for all cases of lacrimal sac mucoepidermoid carcinoma diagnosed between 1990 and 2018. Data collected included demographics, clinical findings, management, and follow-up. Pathologic parameters assessed included tumor morphology, immunohistochemistry, and MAML2 and EGFR fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) stu

Hepatobiliary mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a rare malignant tumor comprising mucous, intermediate, and epidermoid cells. Herein, we presented a case of primary liver mucoepidermoid carcinoma preoperatively misdiagnosed as conventional intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. A 67-year-old male was admitted to our hospital. Preoperative laboratory tests showed increased aspartate transaminase, alanine transaminase, and carbohydrate antigen 19-9. Abdominal Computer Tomography revealed a 4.8 × 4.9 cm liver mass in segment VI. A preliminary diagnosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma was made, with underg

A 69-year-old man with a 0.6 cm yellowish polypoid lesion in the lateral soft palate for 2 years is presented. Histological examination of the tumor revealed a small, well-differentiated, mucoepidermoid carcinoma dominated by densely packed cholesterol clefts in association with an exuberant foreign-body reaction with several giant cells. The tumor entity 'mucoepidermoid carcinoma with foreign-body giant cells' might be differentiated from 'mucoepidermoid carcinoma with an osteoclast-like giant cell stromal reaction' because differences in pathogenesis and tumor behavior are assumed.

Salivary mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most common malignant salivary gland tumor. Low or intermediate grade tumors are slow-growing and can be mistaken for benign lesions on both physical exam and imaging studies. We present a case of hypervascular mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the hard palate that was initially thought to represent a benign vascular lesion. To our knowledge, only two prior cases of hypervascular mucoepidermoid carcinoma have been previously reported. This is the first case showing the MRI features of this tumor and its temporal evolution on CT over several years. Our patient

BACKGROUND: Mucoepidermoid cancer is exceptional in the respiratory tract, accounting for only 0.2% of primary lung cancers.
CASE REPORTS: We report three cases of mucoepidermoid carcinoma. The inaugural signs were hemoptysia in a 10-year-old child, recurrent lower respiratory tract infections in a 13-year-old child, and dyspnea with chest pain in a 32-year-old adult. Bronchial fibroscopy disclosed a proximal endobronchial tumor in all three patients. Pathology study of the operative specimen identified low-grade malignant mucoepidermoid carcinoma in the two children and high-grade malignant

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor of salivary glands. However, it is a rare entity in larynx. Laryngeal cases are frequently misdiagnosed with other malignancies and they are under-reported. So, recognizing the clinical and histological features of this tumor is essential. Laryngeal mucoepidermoid carcinoma can arise in supraglottis, glottis and subglottis. Generally, it presents as a submucosal mass; therefore, progressive symptoms without any identifiable lesion in laryngoscopy must be well considered. The prognosis is somehow dependent on the histological features.

We encountered two cases of low malignant mucoepidermoid carcinoma with scanty cellular atypism which originated in the parotid or submandibular gland and was characterized by marked fibrosis and eosinophilic infiltration within tumor tissue despite the predominance of the squamous component. Here we report these two cases and provide a review of the literature. We believe that clinically these two tumors with stromal fibrosis and eosinophilic infiltration have a low malignant potential, although histological examination revealed a scanty mucus-producing epithelial component. Therefore, we con

AIMS AND BACKGROUND: Bronchial mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a rare disease in children, and lobectomy is traditionally considered as a first-line treatment. As the tumor is characterized by intraluminal growth, low malignancy and superficial infiltration of bronchial walls, bronchoscopic interventional therapy may provide an alternative treatment with favorable results. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of bronchoscopic therapies for bronchial mucoepidermoid carcinoma in children.
METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN: Clinical manifestations, multiple bronchoscopic interventions

A case of mucoepidermoid carcinoma originating in the hard palate was presented. Histological diagnosis of the removed mass at the first operation was pleomorphic adenoma. Tumor recurred at the same site three years later. Subtotal maxillectomy was performed and recurrent tumor was histologically diagnosed as low grade malignant mucoepidermoid carcinoma. A two-year follow-up showed no evidence of recurrence. The low grade malignant mucoepidermoid carcinoma strongly resembles pleomorphic adenoma. The differential diagnosis is important for the better treatment and prognosis.

Metastatic ovarian carcinoma generally arises from the gastrointestinal tract. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor of the salivary gland. It typically disseminates to the regional lymph nodes and surrounding soft tissues. Distant metastasis of the parotid mucoepidermoid carcinoma is very rare, and it usually occurs to the lungs, bones and liver. A 28-year-old woman with a history of high grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the parotid gland was admitted with ascites and bilateral ovarian masses. Breast examination, endoscopic evaluation of the gastrointestinal tract, tota

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a relatively common salivary glands tumor. This tumor is characterized by mucus secretion, cell type can be intermediate or squamous. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the bronchi and especially trachea is very unusual. We are reporting the case of a 22 years old female who presented with main complaint of exertional dyspnea and stridor for about 2 month. Bronchoscopy examination showed a mass with smooth surface in trachea. After surgery a low grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma was confirmed by pathological examination.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a malign tumor involving the parotid gland and minor salivary glands. Parotid pure cystic mucoepidermoid carcinoma can also masquerade mucocele, and hence, histopathological examination is crucial to distinguish the 2. Herein, the authors report a patient of mucoepidermoid carcinoma presenting as an asymptomatic mucocele-like cystic parotid mass. A 69-year-old female presented with cystic parotid mass; her examination findings and diagnostic imaging were consistent with that of mucocele. Histological examination revealed mucoepidermoid carcinoma. This case indicates

From 1950 through 1975, 54 patients with mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the oral cavity were treated at the Mayo Clinic. Metastatic disease occurred in 13 patients; nine patients died of their disease. Mucoepidermoid tumors of the hard palate should be treated by partial maxillectomy. Complete neck dissection is necessary for tumors larger than 2 cm in the base of the tongue. Other intraoral mucoepidermoid carcinomas are treated by wide surgical excision.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor of salivary gland. Majority of the salivary gland tumors arise in parotid gland with maximum being of benign nature. Although Mucoepidermoid carcinoma accounts for less than 10% of all tumors of the salivary gland, it constitutes approximately 30% of all malignant tumors of the salivary gland. It is characterized by a mixed pattern of the two main cell types: epidermoid and mucus-producing cells. Metastasis from salivary gland malignancy is infrequent and predominantly found in bone, lung, liver and lymph nodes. We are presenting a ra

BACKGROUND: Sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the thyroid with eosinophilia (SMECE) is a rare thyroid tumor. More and more reports have proposed that sclerosing mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the thyroid with eosinophilia is significantly invasive, but its origin and pathogenesis are currently controversial.
CASE PRESENTATION: We presented a 42-year-old female of Han ethnicity. She had a 4-year history of thyroid nodules, and mild decrease in thyroid function was observed at the time of surgery. Subsequently, pathological examination revealed typical morphological characteristics of scleros

Tumors of salivary glands are uncommon and comprise of about 2%-4% of all head and neck tumors. About 75%-80% of these tumors are benign and include pleomorphic adenoma, monomorphic adenoma, oncocytoma, and papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor of salivary glands, representing 5-10% of all salivary gland tumors. Although known to be metastatic to local lymph nodes, distant metastases are rare (especially, with low and intermediate grade tumors). Histologic grade and the expression of various mucin glycoproteins are useful prognostic in
