Contagious caprine pleuropneumonia and Mannheimia haemolytica-associated acute respiratory disease of goats and sheep in Afar Region, Ethiopia.

In April 2002, an investigation into an outbreak of acute respiratory disease in goats and sheep in Milae (Afar), Ethiopia was conducted. The investigation involved 4 flocks (722 sheep and 750 goats in total) and comprised the disease history, clinical and post-mortem examination, and microbiological analysis of nasal swabs, lung lesions, and pleural fluid samples. Clinically diseased animals exhibited severe respiratory distress, and necropsy of two of the goats demonstrated fibrinous pneumonia, lung sequestra, and excessive accumulation of straw coloured fluid in the thoracic cavity. Development and validation of a multiplex TaqMan real-time quantitative PCR assay for the simultaneous detection of six major bacterial respiratory pathogens in goats.

BACKGROUND: Respiratory disease caused by bacterial and mycoplasmal pathogens is an important threat to goat health, and mixed infections complicate etiological diagnosis. Rapid multiplex detection is therefore valuable for clinical investigation and surveillance. METHODS: Two triplex TaqMan real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) panels were established for the simultaneous detection of six major caprine respiratory pathogens. Panel I targeted Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae (Mo), Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri (Mmc), and Mycoplasma capricolum subsp. capripneumoniae (Mccp), whereas Panel II targeted Pa

Multilocus sequence typing of pathogenic Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri reveals the predominance of a novel clonal complex among isolates from goats in India.

Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri (Mmc) typically causes pneumonia, mastitis, arthritis, keratitis and septicaemia in goats. Mortality associated with Mmc in goat flocks is lower compared to Mycoplasma capricolum subsp. capripneumoniae-associated respiratory infections. Case fatality rates associated with Mmc ranged from 9.8 to 26.8% among several states in India. Molecular epidemiology approaches aimed at genotyping help to identify the diversity of isolates involved in a disease. Ten clinical pathogenic Mmc isolates were analysed by multilocus sequence typing (MLST) for studying genotypic rel

An international collaborative study to determine the prevalence of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia by monoclonal antibody-based cELISA.

BACKGROUND: Few serological tests are available for detecting antibodies against Mycoplasma capricolum subsp. capripneumoniae, the causal agent of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP). The complement fixation test, the test prescribed for international trade purposes, uses a crude antigen that cross-reacts with all the other mycoplasma species of the "mycoides cluster" frequently infecting goat herds. The lack of a more specific test has been a real obstacle to the evaluation of the prevalence and economic impact of CCPP worldwide. A new competitive ELISA kit for CCPP, based on a previous

Reproduction of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia reveals the ability of convalescent sera to reduce hydrogen peroxide production in vitro.

Contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP), caused by Mycoplasma capricolum subsp. capripneumoniae is a severe disease widespread in Africa and Asia. Limited knowledge is available on the pathogenesis of this organism, mainly due to the lack of a robust in vivo challenge model and the means to do site-directed mutagenesis. This work describes the establishment of a novel caprine challenge model for CCPP that resulted in 100% morbidity using a combination of repeated intranasal spray infection followed by a single transtracheal infection employing the recent Kenyan outbreak strain ILRI181. Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae identified as the main aetiological agent of respiratory disease in goats from a case-control study in Savannakhet province of Lao PDR.

Clinical signs of respiratory disease are common in Lao goats. To identify the causative agents involved in this clinical syndrome, a matched case-control study was conducted across 70 smallholder goat holdings in Savannakhet province. Fifty paired nasal swab samples were collected from goats with respiratory signs (cases) and unaffected (control) goats from 27 goat holdings. The majority of cases (84 %) were from goats < 12 months of age. Samples were tested using quantitative PCR assays targeting possible pathogens causing respiratory disease. Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae, the cause of atypical

The diagnostic utility of thoracic ultrasonography in sheep and goats with contagious caprine pleuropneumonia.

Contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP), caused by Mycoplasma capricolum subspecies capripneumoniae (Mccp), is a highly contagious respiratory disease that affects goats and, to a lesser extent, sheep. It remains a major cause of economic loss in smallholder farming systems, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. Diagnosing CCPP in the field is challenging due to overlapping clinical signs with other respiratory diseases and limited access to confirmatory laboratory testing. Thoracic ultrasound (TUS) has emerged as a practical, non-invasive tool that enables real-time visualization of p

First Isolation and Genomic Characterization of BVDV-1c in Przewalski's Gazelle (Procapra przewalskii) from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, China.

Przewalski's gazelle (Procapra przewalskii) is an endangered ungulate endemic to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China. Increasing habitat alteration and close contact with domestic livestock have raised concerns about cross-species pathogen transmission, yet infectious disease studies in this species remain limited. To determine the etiology of illness in two deceased gazelles from a conservation facility in Qinghai Province, we screened samples for a panel of pathogens, including Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae, Clostridium perfringens toxin genes, Mannheimia haemolytica, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Mycopl

The first identification of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP) in sheep and goats in Egypt: molecular and pathological characterization.

Contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP) is one of the most fatal and contagious diseases of goats. To date, the occurrence of CCPP in Egypt has not been reported. During the period from 2017 to 2018, 200 goats and 400 sheep from Matrouh Governorate (Al Alamein and El Hammam cities) were suspected to have CCPP; animals were examined to confirm the presence of CCPP infection as well as the epidemiological status, clinical features, and molecular and histopathologic characteristics of lung tissues. Additionally, a treatment trial was performed to assess the efficacy of anti-mycoplasma therapy i

Восстановление ТРНС последнего универсального общего пастора (Общества) на пути к восстановлению системы перевода Древних.

Реконструирование ансестральной последовательности (АСР) было использовано для изучения эволюции переводческой системы путем определения последовательности tRNA в "Last Archaeal Common Ancestor" (LACA), "Last Bacterial Common Ancestor" (LBCA) и "Last Universal Common Ansancestor" (LUCA), которые в наших предыдущих исследованиях назывались "Общество". Составное филогенетическое дерево, взятое из реконструированных последовательности ТРНА, выявило топологию, отличную от ранее выведенных аминоачил-тРНА синтетазы (АРС). Такая непоследовательность может отражать изменения в структурных особенностях
