Myofibromas are rare, benign spindle cell tumours occuring in the first two decades of life, with predilection for the head and neck region. Intraosseous myofibromas of the mandible are exceptionally rare, with fewer than 50 reported cases. We describe the case of a 15-year-old male with an enlarging, painless oral mass causing third molar displacement. Examination revealed an exophytic sublingual lesion with a necrotic surface. Imaging demonstrated a well-defined osteolytic lesion in the mandibular body with soft tissue extension. Biopsy confirmed intraosseous myofibroma, characterized by bla

BACKGROUND: Myofibromas (MF) are rare benign tumors primarily affecting the head and neck region, with maxillary involvement being uncommon, especially in pediatric patients. Traditional management typically involves aggressive resection. This report presents a conservative approach utilizing 3D-based technologies for treating Myofibromas affecting the maxilla and hard palate. Case presentation: A 13-year-old male with a Myofibroma of the hard palate confirmed by incisional biopsy was managed conservatively through 3D imaging, segmentation, 3D printing, local excision, and a custom-fabricated

Most thyroid nodules encountered in clinical endocrinology are epithelial in origin. In contrast, primary thyroid mesenchymal tumors are exceedingly rare but increasingly recognized with advances in immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics. Thyroid myofibroma is an exceptionally uncommon benign fibroblastic-myofibroblastic neoplasm, with only a limited number of cases reported to date. We report a 9-year-old girl with Turner syndrome (TS) and a prior myofibroblastic proliferation of the parotid gland 5 years earlier, who presented with a solitary thyroid nodule. Fine-needle aspiration (F

Myofibromas are rare benign tumors with myofibroblastic origin. They occur especially in cutis and subcutaneous tissue of the head and the neck, less frequently on the extremities. Myofibromas grow very slowly and are often painless, which is why patients often present relatively late. In the literature, there were many reports about intraosseous myofibromas of the craniofascial bones but reports of the trunk and extremities in adults are very rare. The authors present a very rare case of an intraosseous myofibroma of the ribs resulting in pathological fracture, including a research of literat

OBJECTIVES: Myofibromas are uncommon soft tissue tumors exhibiting considerable histopathologic overlap with other benign and malignant entities. The treatment of lesions arising in the oral cavity is controversial. Here, we present 24 new cases and review the literature.
STUDY DESIGN: A search for oral myofibromas was performed within the archives of the University of Florida Oral Pathology and Surgical Pathology Services (1994-2015). Demographic information and immunohistochemical results were recorded. MEDLINE and Web of Science were searched for reports of myofibroma of the oral cavity an

Myofibroma is an uncommon benign mesenchymal neoplasm composed of myofibroblasts, but it can be confused with more aggressive spindle cell tumors. Solitary myofibroma is common in soft tissues of head and neck, but rare in the jaw bones with only 38 cases of central myofibroma of mandible reported in English medical literature. When encountered in the jaws, lesions exhibit clinical and radiographic features suggestive of odontogenic cysts/tumors or other neoplastic conditions. We hereby present the 39(th) case of intraosseous myofibroma of the mandible which had been reported to our institutio

This study documents an exceptionally rare instance of primary myofibroma originating in the sphenoid sinus of a 60-year-old female patient, who presented with acute progressive diplopia, ptosis, and headache. Preoperative imaging identified a hypervascular lesion within the sphenoid sinus, accompanied by significant bone destruction. The patient underwent successful gross total resection via an endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach, which enabled complete tumor excision, preservation of vital neurovascular structures, and effective skull base reconstruction. Postoperatively, the patie

BACKGROUND: Cellular myofibroma is a rare subtype of myofibroma that was first described in 2017. Its diagnosis is often challenging because of its relative rarity, lack of known genetic abnormalities, and expression of muscle markers that can be confused with sarcomas that have myogenic differentiation. Currently, scholars have limited knowledge of this disease, and published cases are few. Further accumulation of diagnostic and treatment experiences is required.
CASE SUMMARY: A 16-year-old girl experienced left upper limb swelling for 3 years. She sought medical attention at a local hospita

Isolated orbital infantile myofibroma are rare tumors in the head and neck. The mass-like clinical presentation and variable histologic features result in frequent misdiagnosis and potentially inappropriate clinical management. There are only a few reported cases in the English literature. Twenty-four patients with orbital infantile myofibroma or myofibromatosis were compiled from the English literature (Medline 1960-2011) and integrated with this case report. The patients included 14 males and 10 females, aged newborn to 10 years (mean, 34.8 months), who presented with a painless mass in the

Infantile myofibroma is the most common fibrous tumor of infancy. Despite the frequency of these tumors, the natural history is incompletely understood. We present two cases with a unique pattern of disease: solitary myofibromas with subsequent progression to diffuse myofibromatosis. Given the variable spectrum of disease and the corresponding difference in morbidity and potential mortality based on the extent of disease, we propose surveillance recommendations.

Infantile myofibroma (MF) is an uncommon benign myofibroblastic tumor of infancy and childhood. Solitary adult MF shares similar features with infantile MF. The lesions occur in 3 clinicopathologic settings: solitary, multicentric, and generalized and can be either sporadic or familial. Traditionally, infantile MF has been included in the spectrum of infantile hemangiopericytoma. The recent World Health Organization classification listed MF, angioleiomyoma, and myopericytoma under the general heading of perivascular tumors in the sense of a morphologic spectrum of perivascular myoid cell neopl

BACKGROUND: Infantile myofibromatosis is a rare benign disease of mesenchymal origin. It occurs mostly in infants but can occur in children and adults. It presents in 2 forms: solitary and multicentric. The presence of an orbital component, whether as a solitary lesion or as part of the multicentric disease, is even rarer. Surgery is required when these tumors behave aggressively and grow rapidly or when they are large enough to cause compression symptoms. Several surgical approaches have been described to resect such lesions.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We present a case of a solitary intraorbital myo

Myofibroma (MF) is an uncommon benign mesenchymal neoplasm composed of myofibroblasts. Traumatic neuroma (TN) is a non-neoplastic proliferative disorder of the nerve sheath in response to injury or surgery. Both are uncommon in the jaws. We present a case of a 39-year-old Afro-descendant woman with a unilocular radiolucent lesion in the posterior mandible, showing mild expansion and cortical disruption. Biopsy revealed proliferation of fascicularly arranged spindle cells strongly positive for α-SMA and podoplanin, with low Ki-67 (<5%), and the final diagnosis was central MF. Ten months after e

Myofibroma (MF) is a benign neoplasm derived from myofibroblasts. While they are infrequent, these tumors are predominantly found in the pediatric group and seldom manifest as intraosseous mandibular tumors. Herein, we present a 9-year-old female with a radiolucent lesion in the left mandible associated with malposed left lower canine and 1st premolar teeth. Clinical examination revealed a slightly tender 5×4 cm firm mass resulting in an expansion of the buccal and lingual aspects of the mandible in the canine and first premolar region. An incisional biopsy revealed a benign tumor consisting o

Intraosseous myofibroma of the mandible is a benign myofibroblastic neoplasm with limited documentation in the pediatric population. This case report outlines the presentation of a nine-year-old girl with a history of swelling and pain involving the lower left side of the face for two months. Examination revealed a mass originating from the posterior part of the mandible, and radiographic evaluation with panoramic radiography and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) revealed a well-defined unilocular radiolucency with three-dimensional cortical expansion. Pathological examination revealed the
