The antioxidant properties and characteristic metabolites of Phlomoides rotata (P. rotata) essential oils (EOs) remain largely unexplored. To address this gap, we combined metabolomic profiling with in vitro antioxidant assays to systematically characterize EOs from P. rotata. Cryoprecipitation of EOs yielded two fractions: crystals (Crs) and crystal-free EOs (CEs). GC-MS identified 125 components (84.41-94.86%), including 94 first reports in P. rotata. The relative content of various fatty acids in serum lipoproteins was determined in patients with type IIa (38), IIb (49) and IV (77) of hyperlipoproteinemia and compared with 52 controls. A common antigen (KUNIN) purification method is described. The preparation obtained was highly antigenic, as proved by hemagglutination and its inhibition, and immunogenic in rabbits. Chemical analysis demonstrated the presence of an L-phosphoglycerid of the cephalin type, of protein, glucosamine, acetyl and glucose. The antigen had the character of an acidic polymer. It readily forms salt linkages with lysozyme. Phospholipase A induced the release of myristic, palmitic and stearic acids. It also destroyed both the antigenicity and immunogenicity of common antigen.

Free fatty acids were derivatized as amides (DFFA) by reaction with (R)-(+)-1-phenylethylamine, using a simple, fast and robust reaction scheme. A HPLC method with diode array and ESI MS detection was developed for the analysis of the derivatized substances. BACKGROUND: We wanted to define metabolomic patterns in plasma to predict a negative outcome in severe trauma patients.
METHODS: A prospective pilot study was designed to evaluate plasma metabolomic patterns, established by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, in patients allocated to an intensive care unit (in the University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova, Lleida, Spain) in the first hours after a severe trauma (n = 48). Univariate and multivariate statistics were employed to establish potential predictors of mortality.

Separation and structural determination of the chloroform-soluble components obtained from the peels of the persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) were performed. β-Carotene, lycopene, β-cryptoxanthin mono-myristic acid ester, zeaxanthin di-myristic acid ester, the latter two of which were accompanied by a small amount of palmitoleic acid in the fatty acid moiety, and oleanolic acid were identified.
