We report a 5-year, 9-month-old boy with bilateral patellar hypoplasia. The radiographic skeletal survey revealed absent ossification of the ischium and inferior pubic ramus on both sides, characteristic of the newly recognized benign bone dysplasia known as small patella syndrome, or ischiopatellar dysplasia. No nail change, iliac horn, elbow anomaly, or renal disease is associated with this condition.

Buschke-Ollendorf syndrome and nail-patella syndrome are both rare connective tissue disorders inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern and characterized by cutaneous and bone lesions. We describe a 3-year-old boy and his family who showed clinical features of both Buschke-Ollendorf syndrome and nail-patella syndrome. To our knowledge, this association has not been reported previously, suggesting that these two connective tissue disorders may share the same gene location with different mutations or involve different mutated genes that share downstream segments of their signaling pathways. Both ectopic cilia and nail-patella syndrome (NPS) are rare entities. To our knowledge we report the first case of the two anomalies coexisting in one patient. We present the case of a 2-year-old girl, with no other ophthalmic complication of NPS, who had an excellent cosmetic outcome and no lesion recurrence following surgical excision of ectopic cilia.

Nail-patella syndrome, also known as hereditary onycho-osteodystrophy, is a rare autosomal dominant disorder with pleiotropic phenotypic expression. The present report is of a nail-patella syndrome patient, a 26-year-old female, admitted to our NeuroMuscular Rehabilitation Clinic Division for neurological symptoms, secondary to a severe spondylolysthesis with bilateral L5 pedicle fracture. During hospitalization, she was also diagnosed with mild thyrotoxicosis, but interestingly enough, the bone mineral density, assessed at multiple sites, was quasi-normal.

INTRODUCTION: The nail-patella syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant condition with high penetrance. Pregnancy in such a patient is rare and we believe this to be the first report of a live birth occurring in a patient with nail-patella syndrome.
CLINICAL PICTURE: A 25-year-old patient presented in her first pregnancy with nephrotic syndrome associated with characteristic bone abnormalities and nail dysplasia and was later diagnosed to have nail-patella syndrome. In her second pregnancy, the course of her pregnancy was complicated by further deterioration of renal function with superimposed p

Antecubital pterygium is rare in the nail-patella syndrome but common in the multiple pterygium syndrome and aplasia of the trochlea. It is known that there is the rebound phenomenon after treatment of congenital joint contracture. We describe the poor functional results due to rapid recurrence of the flexion contracture treated with the Ilizarov method for an antecubital pterygium in the nail-patella syndrome.

Nail-patella syndrome (NPS) is a rare genetic disorder with multiple skeletal deformities and a variety of extra-skeletal involvements. We present a 17-year-old male with a clinical tetrad of skeletal abnormalities, multiple bony deformities, advanced renal failure, hypothyroidism, and dilated cardiomyopathy. A clinical diagnosis of NPS was made, supported by radiographic findings, and corroborated by compatible renal biopsy results. There are very few published reports describing the association of dilated cardiomyopathy with this syndrome. A high index of suspicion is needed to make this dia

The nail-patella syndrome (NPS) is an uncommon entity with a characteristic set of anomalies. The presence of classical tetrad of hypoplastic or absent fingernails, hypoplastic or absent patellae, bilateral iliac horns and varying grades of elbow deformities are well elucidated in the literature. The spectrum of clinical manifestation varies, resulting in very few cases presenting to the healthcare facility or being diagnosed appropriately. We, hereby, describe our experience of three separate cases of the NPS, diagnosed on clinical and radiological basis. All cases were diagnosed incidentally

We describe here an interesting case of a 7-day-old male infant brought with parental concerns of inability to extend both knees. Clinical evaluation revealed dysplastic fingernails, bilateral abnormal patellae, triangular lunules in conjunction with pathognomic iliac horns on pelvic radiographs suggesting the possibility of nail-patella syndrome (NPS). Other competing diagnoses with similar phenotypic features were considered and sequentially excluded. A definitive diagnosis was established by the identification of the principal mutation at the LMX1B gene locus of chromosome 9. NPS is seldom

PURPOSE: To report a case of asystole during combined epidural and general anesthesia occurring in a patient with Nail-Patella syndrome (NPS), and to review the management and anesthetic implications of this rare genetic syndrome.
CLINICAL FEATURES: A 64-yr-old male with NPS, renal impairment and coronary artery disease presented for right hemicolectomy for colon cancer. Following initiation of surgery and during insertion of a nasogastric tube there was sudden loss of the patient's pulse oxymetry, and arterial pressure waveforms with an asystolic electrocardiogram signal. Atropine 0.6 mg i.v

Nail-patella syndrome (NPS) is a rare, autosomal-dominant hereditary disorder characterized by nail dysplasia and multiple osseous abnormalities. Some patients may develop renal function impairment and even end-stage renal disease. We treated a 42-year-old female patient with proteinuria who presented with a web-like structure over the antecubital fossa and hypoplastic patellae. In addition, she had other characteristic findings, including bilateral iliac horn, triangular nail lunulae and hypoplastic radial head. She had impaired renal function, and renal biopsy showed mesangial proliferative

An otherwise healthy 18-year-old woman had abdominal discomfort. Physical examination and laboratory studies were unremarkable, with the exception of nail dystrophy of the ulnar digits. An abdominal plain film revealed bilateral posterior iliac horns, pathognomonic of nail-patella syndrome. Additional radiographs showed hypoplastic patellas bilaterally. While glomerulonephritis occurs in 30% of patients with nail-patella syndrome, there was no evidence of renal involvement.

Nail patella syndrome is a rare dysplasia with characteristic findings of finger nail abnormalities, hypoplastic patellas, radial head dislocations, and iliac horns. We reviewed the problems and treatment of 44 patients with this syndrome from 13 Shriners Hospital units. The inheritance pattern is autosomal dominant, with foot abnormalities as the chief presenting complaint. All patients were ambulatory. Twenty of the patients underwent knee operations, and 24 underwent operations to correct foot and ankle deformities. Knee extensor realignments and foot posteromedial releases had overall good

The present paper reports a case of osteo-onychodysplasia (nail-patella syndrome). There are very few descriptions of this syndrome in the orthopaedic literature, possibly because it is rare for the morphological changes in the knee and the associated abnormalities to require or be amenable to treatment. In the present case an accidental sprain of the right knee caused recurrent dislocation of the patella that necessitated surgical intervention.

Nail-patella syndrome (NPS) is a rare autosomal-dominant disorder characterized by the classic triad of fingernail dysplasia, patellar absence/hypoplasia, and presence of iliac horns. We describe the various features of NPS, focusing on dermatologic and musculoskeletal findings. A 69-year-old man presented to the dermatology clinic for a routine skin cancer screening. Physical examination revealed hypoplastic fingernails with longitudinal ridging, splitting, and triangular lunulae; left patellar absence and right patellar hypoplasia; and bilateral iliac horns that had been present since birth.
