Surface Modification of Hollow Structure TiO2 Nanospheres for Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution.

Engineering the surface structure of semiconductor is one of the most promising strategies for improving the separation and transfer efficiency of charge, which is a key issue in photocatalysis. Here, we designed and fabricated the C decorated hollow TiO2 photocatalysts (C-TiO2), in which 3-aminophenol-formaldehyde resin (APF) spheres were used as template and carbon precursor. It was determined that the C content can be easily controlled by calcinating the APF spheres with different time. Moreover, the synergetic effort between the optimal C content and the formed Ti-O-C bonds in C-TiO2 were

Tunable construction of multi-shelled hollow carbonate nanospheres and their potential applications.

The development of multi-shelled hollow carbonate nanospheres (MHCN) for biomedical applications is challenging, and has not been reported. In this study, a facile approach is firstly reported to synthesize hierarchically porous MHCN with controllable shell numbers using a novel strategy called layer-by-layer thermal decomposition of organic acid salts and templates. The choice of organic acid salts as the reactants is innovative and crucial. The shell numbers of porous MHCN can be easily controlled and tuned through adjusting the adsorption temperature of organic acid salts and/or the adsorpt

Controlled release of nafcillin using biocompatible "dummy" molecularly imprinted sol-gel nanospheres.

Different silicon-based xero-gel molecularly imprinted spheres in the nano boundary range with recognition capabilities for nafcillin have been synthesised, using tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and (3- aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTEOS) as precursors. Imprinting has been achieved using both nafcillin (NAF) or structural analogous 'dummies' such as (+)-6-aminopenicillenic acid (APA), or ampicillin ((+)-6- aminobenzylpenicillin)sodium salt (AMP). Materials were fully characterized using ATR-FTIR, (29)Si solidstate NMR, TGA, TEM and BET. Adsorption isotherms for all the materials fit with a co

Surface functional modification of self-assembled insulin nanospheres for improving intestinal absorption.

In this work we fabricated therapeutic protein drugs such as insulin as free-carrier delivery system to improve their oral absorption efficiency. The formulation involved self-assembly of insulin into nanospheres (INS) by a novel thermal induced phase separation method. In consideration of harsh environment in gastrointestinal tract, surface functional modification of INS with ɛ-poly-L-lysine (EPL) was employed to form a core-shell structure (INS@EPL) and protect them from too fast dissociation before their arriving at target uptake sites. Both INS and INS@EPL were characterized as uniformly s

Development of biocompatible and proton-resistant quantum dots assembled on gelatin nanospheres.

In this study, biocompatible and proton-resistant CdSe quantum dots (QDs) assembled on gelatin nanospheres (GNs) have been synthesized by combining the two-step desolvation method with the layer-by-layer assembly technique. The core-shell fluorescent gelatin nanosphere consists of a gelatin core and a four-layer shell of hydrophilic CdSe QDs assembled through polyelectrolytes (PE). The morphology, microstructures, and photostability of the hybrid spheres were further investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), fluorospectrometery, and confocal fl

Carbon nanospheres enhanced electrochemiluminescence of CdS quantum dots for biosensing of hypoxanthine.

This work developed a novel method to greatly enhance the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of CdS quantum dots (QDs). The ECL amplification was achieved by the assembly of QDs on poly (diallyldimethylammonium chloride)-functionalized carbon nanospheres (PFCNSs), and successfully employed for sensitive ECL biosensing of oxidase substrates. The carbon nanospheres were prepared by a "green" method, and the high loading of QDs on carbon nanospheres led to a 4-times increased ECL intensity with dissolved O(2) as the coreactant. Using xanthine oxidase (XOD) as a model, an ECL biosensor was fabricated

Porous SnO2 nanospheres as sensitive gas sensors for volatile organic compounds detection.

Porous SnO(2) nanospheres with high surface areas have been synthesized through a solvothermal method in the absence of any templates. The structure and morphology of the resultant products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and nitrogen adsorption-desorption technique. The as-prepared SnO(2) porous nanospheres with the diameters ranging from 90-150 nm are composed of small nanocrystals with average sizes of less than 10 nm. Results demonstrated that the formation of p

A novel method for preparing quantum dot nanospheres with narrow size distribution.

Differently colored quantum dot (QD) nanoparticles are incorporated into bovine serum albumin (BSA) nanospheres by spray-drying followed by thermal denaturization, which is a rapid, highly efficient, large scale, and low cost method. Because the spray-dryer is equipped with an ultrasonic atomizer, most of the nanospheres are no more than 550 nm in diameter and a have narrow size distribution. Ultrathin sections (70 nm) of nanospheres are first prepared using a technique which is normally applied to cell sectioning. The section images show that the QD-BSA nanospheres are solid, and that the QDs

Preparation of tin-albumin nanospheres for labelling with 99mTc and application in liver scintigraphy.

A modified method is described for the preparation of albumin nanospheres for labelling with 99mTc by investigating the absorption behaviour of tin as a reducing agent on albumin nanospheres. These albumin nanospheres can be used for studying the reticuloendothelial system, especially that of the liver. The labelling method is very simple, and the efficiency of labelling with 99mTc is higher than 97 per cent.

Curcumin-loaded protein imprinted mesoporous nanosphere for inhibiting amyloid aggregation.

Some natural variants of human lysozyme are associated with systemic non-neurological amyloidosis that leads to amyloid protein fibril deposition in different tissues. Inhibition of amyloid fibrillation by nanomaterials is considered to be an effective approach to treating amyloidosis. Here, we prepared a targeted, highly loaded curcumin lysozyme-imprinted nanosphere (CUR-MIMS) that could effectively inhibit the aggregation of lysozyme with lysozyme adsorption capacity of 193.57 mg g-1 and the imprinting factor (IF) of 3.72. CUR-MIMS could bind to lysozyme through hydrophobic interactions and

Zinc oxide nanosphere for hydrogen sulfide scavenging and ferroptosis of colorectal cancer.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer is a common malignancy occurring in the digestive system and ranks second in cancer mortality worldwide. In colorectal cancer, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is selectively upregulated, resulting in the further exacerbation of the disease. Therefore, the clearance of H2S and the regulation of the enzymes on the H2S pathways are of great significance for colorectal cancer therapy. METHODS: Here, we investigated the H2S content in various clinical tumor tissues from patients and confirmed that overproduced concentration of H2S in colorectal cancer. Accordingly, we develope

A Multifunctional Subphthalocyanine Nanosphere for Targeting, Labeling, and Killing of Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria.

Developing a material that can combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria, a major global health threat, is an urgent requirement. To tackle this challenge, we synthesized a multifunctional subphthalocyanine (SubPc) polymer nanosphere that has the ability to target, label, and photoinactivate antibiotic-resistant bacteria in a single treatment with more than 99 % efficiency, even with a dose as low as 4.2 J cm(-2) and a loading concentration of 10 nM. The positively charged nanosphere shell composed of covalently linked SubPc units can increase the local concentration of photosensitizers at therapeu

Kirkendall Effect-Driven Construction of Hollow Rare-Earth Silicate Nanospheres for Drug Loading.

Monodisperse oxide nanoparticles have attracted attention for biomedical applications. However, conventional synthetic methods often provide limited control over particle size, morphology, and polydispersity. Herein, we report a bottom-up strategy for synthesizing hollow rare-earth silicate nanospheres based on the Kirkendall effect. The addition of an optimized amount of 1-propanol to the reaction medium altered the dielectric constant and surface tension, thereby increasing the nucleation rate and reducing the precursor size. During high-temperature treatment, unequal interdiffusion of rare-

One-Step Thermal Treatment Route to Obtain ZnO Nanospheres from ZnAlEu LDH Nanotubes.

This study presents a novel synthesis route for producing ZnO nanospheres via the controlled calcination of nanotubular layered double hydroxide (LDH) precursors. The thermal treatment promotes the transformation of the nanotubular LDH precursor into ZnO nanospheres through a restructuring process associated with LDH decomposition and oxide formation. Comprehensive characterization using XRD, SEM, HRTEM, and XRF mapping confirmed the formation of highly crystalline wurtzite ZnO-spheres. Although no distinct Eu2O3 reflections were initially observed by XRD, XRF mapping and XANES analyses reveal

Electron-Donating Aminosilane Bridging Enables General Access to Full-Color Aqueous Phosphorescent Nanospheres.

The pursuit of a universal and efficient strategy for converting organic molecules into aqueous-phase phosphorescent nanoparticles (PNPs) exhibiting prolonged afterglow and uniform morphology represents a persistent challenge in materials chemistry. In this study, we report a general in situ silanization platform that enables the integration of organic precursors into silica-based matrices via an aminosilane-mediated "bridge", yielding monodisperse, size-tunable (10∼320 nm) full-color PNPs with emission spanning blue-purple to red. Aminosilanes with electron-donating characteristics not only p

Soft sonocapacitor with topologically integrated piezodielectric nanospheres enables wireless epidural closed-loop neuromodulation.

Capacitively coupled electrical stimulation modulates neuronal activity through reversible charging and without charge transfer reactions. This represents a promising and safe neuromodulation scheme but achieving wireless and high capacitive charge density injection remains challenging. Here, we developed a topological fibrous-architecture sonocapacitor (SonoCap) that assembled from piezoelectric-dielectric composite nanosphere (UCapT) and two-dimensional cellulose. UCapT features a unique piezoelectric core-hollow cavity-dielectric cage structure that can efficiently couples ultrasound excita

Fabrication of Polypyrrole Hollow Nanospheres by Hard-Template Method for Supercapacitor Electrode Material.

Conducting polymers like polypyrrole, polyaniline, and polythiophene with nanostructures offers several advantages, such as high conductivity, a conjugated structure, and a large surface area, making them highly desirable for energy storage applications. However, the direct synthesis of conducting polymers with nanostructures poses a challenge. In this study, we employed a hard template method to fabricate polystyrene@polypyrrole (PS@PPy) core-shell nanoparticles. It is important to note that PS itself is a nonconductive material that hinders electron and ion transport, compromising the desire

Modified dipeptide based nanospheres as a potent adjuvating delivery system for recombinant vaccines.

Recombinant protein vaccines offer an advantage without a safety risk in eliciting desired humoral and cell-mediated immune responses against infectious diseases. But one of their disadvantages is their low immunogenicity, thus requiring adjuvants that augment their immunogenicity. It is necessary to explore new technology that could provide a non-toxic, biodegradable, and biocompatible delivery system with adjuvant characteristics and nanotechnology provides an excellent platform for nanomaterial-based vaccine adjuvants. Here, we have synthesized a modified dipeptide, Arg-α, β-dehydrophenyala
