Two cases of patients with prostatic granulocytic sarcoma in whom urinary obstruction occurred are presented. The diagnosis was made by tissue examination with hematoxylin and eosin and specific esterase stains. One patient had a myelodysplastic syndrome and the other patient had acute myeloblastic leukemia. In both cases the diagnosis of prostatic granulocytic sarcoma was unexpected. Granulocytic sarcomas should be considered in the differential diagnosis of urinary obstruction in patients with myeloproliferative or myelodysplastic syndromes.

This study reports the cytochemical, electrophoretic and immunological characteristics of blasts cells from 39 cases of acute myelomonocytic leukaemia (M4). Although the liver is one of the four organs most often involved in generalized mastocytosis (GM), little is known about macroscopic and microscopic liver findings in this rare disease. This study included 182 patients with GM (confirmed in most by bone marrow histologic study), comprising 52 cases of our own and 130 reported in the literature. Systemic mast cell disease/mastocytosis (SMCD) is best defined as a multitopic proliferation of cytologically and/or functionally abnormal tissue mast cells (TMC). SMCD preferentially involves the bone marrow, skin, spleen, liver, and lymph nodes. A case of immunoblastic sarcoma in a 56-year-old man is presented. He had no history of predisposing diseases. His clinical condition was typical of a highly aggressive disseminated malignant lymphoma and he presented important heterogenous hypergammaglobulinemia. In 83 children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) the immunological phenotype of the lymphoblasts was determined using E rosetting, monoclonal anti-T cell sera, surface immunoglobulin staining and common ALL antiserum. The data were compared with acid alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) and acid phosphatase (AP) cytochemical data. The vast majority of T-ALL cells proved to be ANAE-negative (30/31) and AP-positive (29/31). Null-ALL was always AP-negative (12/12), the ANAE reaction was sometimes positive (4/12). In common ALL, findings ranged from negative to positive for both enzymes.
