BACKGROUND: Head and neck solitary extramedullary plasmacytomas are rare plasma cell neoplasms. Literature review reveals only small numbers of reports. The objective was to review our experience with treating patients with this neoplasm.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review between 1960 and 2000 was performed. Sixty-eight patients with head and neck extramedullary plasmacytomas were included.

Pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumour (PHAT) is a very rare low-grade indeterminate neoplasm of connective and other soft tissue, which is not known to metastasize though local recurrence has been documented. It most commonly presents in the lower extremities, but other anatomical locations have been described. The clinicopathologic characteristics of 14 new cases of low-grade polymorphous adenocarcinoma of the oral cavity are presented. Tumors were located in the palate in 10 cases, and in one case each in the base of the tongue, buccal mucosa, tonsil, and retromolar pad.
