Angiomatoid Spindle Cell Thymomas (WHO Type A): An Unusual Histological Subtype That Can Mimic a True Vascular Neoplasm.

Ten spindle cell thymomas with prominent angiomatoid features are presented. The patients, consisting of 8 men and 2 women, are between the ages of 47 and 62, with an average age of 54.5. Clinically, 8 patients experienced chest pain, cough, and dyspnea, while 2 patients were asymptomatic. Diagnostic imaging revealed an anterior mediastinal mass in all patients, leading to surgical resection. The resected neoplasms varied in size from 3 to 5 cm in diameter and were described as well-circumscribed, hemorrhagic, with solid areas. Histologically, they exhibited extensive areas of hemorrhage with

Osteolipoma presenting as a submandibular mass: a rare presentation.

Osteolipomas are rare tumors, particularly in the head and neck region, in contrast to lipomas which are the most common benign neoplasms in this location. Osseous changes are benign and mainly occur in long-standing lipomas. Despite its rarity, this neoplasm has a characteristic histopathologic appearance with lamellar bony spicules within the mature adipose tissue. Of the 19 cases previously reported in the oropharyngeal area, only two were located in the submandibular region. We report the third case of submandibular osteolipoma, presenting as an asymptomatic mass in a middle-aged man. Our

Intravenous injection of allogenic canine mesenchymal stem cells in 40 client-owned dogs: a safety assessment in veterinary clinical trials.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the adverse effects of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) transplanted via intravenous infusion in dogs and examine their safety. We performed a retrospective analysis of various clinical assessments, including physical examination, blood tests, and radiographs, and monitored the formation of neoplasms during a 6-month follow-up period in 40 client-owned dogs that received intravenous infusion of adipose tissue-derived MSCs (AT-MSCs) for the treatment of various underlying diseases between 2012 and 2018. RESULTS: No significant adverse e

Intraoperative differentiation of pancreatic neoplastic lesions using optical coherence tomography (OCT).

PURPOSE: The diagnostic methods for accurately differentiating the dignity of pancreatic neoplasms are limited. Worrisome features on MRI and endosonography guide the way to resection or conservative treatment with a relevant rate of failure. Intraoperative minimal invasive optical coherence tomography could be a solution for this challenge. The aim of this study is to investigate whether optical coherence tomography is suitable for differentiating of pancreatic neoplastic lesions. METHODS: In this exploratory study, four patient's specimens of pancreatic resections (white adipose tissue, int

Recurrent, Giant Renal Angiomyolipoma Treated with Selective Arterial Embolization: A Case Report.

Renal angiomyolipoma (AML), a rare benign mesenchymal neoplasm, is characterized by the presence of vessels, smooth muscle, and adipose tissue. Treatment should be considered for symptomatic patients or for those at risk for complications, in particular for retroperitoneal bleeding, which is correlated to the size of the tumor, grade of the angiogenic component, and presence of tuberous sclerosis complex. Herein, we report the case of a 39-year-old female with renal AML who was treated in a conservative approach by super-selective embolization.

Minimally Invasive Excision of an Oral Lipoma of the Upper Lip Using a 980nm Diode Laser: A Case Report.

Lipomas of the upper lip are among the rarest adipose tissue neoplasms in the oral cavity. The standard treatment for lipomas involves surgical removal, which can be performed using conventional or laser techniques. This case report discusses a 71-year-old male patient with swelling on the left side of his upper lip, clinically diagnosed as an oral lipoma. The lesion was surgically removed under local anesthesia using a combination of diode laser surgery and a blunt scalpel. This approach facilitated the complete removal of the lesion with reduced operating time, minimal damage to surrounding

Well-differentiated giant "lipoma-like" liposarcoma of the posterior mediastinum: a case report.

While liposarcoma is the most common malignant mesenchymal neoplasm in adults, a mediastinal position is rare. We describe here the case of a 74-year-old female with an hourglass-shaped mass in the posterior mediastinum, which was probably present on a roentgenogram 4 years earlier. On a CT scan of the chest, the mass appeared non-homogeneous with a mainly adipose content. A preoperative ultrasonically guided tru-cut transthoracic biopsy revealed the presence of adipose tissue with mildly atypical cytological features. The mass was therefore completely excised by means of a right thoracotomy.

Giant Pancreatic Lipoma of the Uncinate Process: A Case Report.

Lipoma is a common benign tumor composed of mature adipose tissue; however, its occurrence in the pancreatic parenchyma is rare. It is usually identified as an incidental finding on imaging studies ordered for other reasons. We present the case of a 58-year-old male patient who underwent evaluation for a left renal mass, in whom a giant pancreatic lipoma (>5 cm) was detected by contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography (CT) and subsequently characterized with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Given the rarity of this condition and, in this case, its large size, rigorous imaging character

Mandibular intraosseous lipoma: clinical features of a condylar location.

Lipomas are common benign neoplasms affecting many adipose tissue-containing organs of the body, including bone. Central lesions in bone account for less than 1% of all lipomas. In the literature, intraosseous lipomas have been reported in various bones such as the frontal and parietal bones, ribs, ulna, phalanges of hand and foot, femoral neck, fibula and calcaneum. No preference has been described for gender or race. As far as the authors know, there have been no documented cases of intraosseous lipoma involving the temporomandibular joint. This report describes a rare case of mandibular int

Hamartoma of the breast.

Mammary hamartomas are unusual lesions with distinctive radiologic and pathologic features. They are well circumscribed, mobile tumors showing no adherence to skin or muscle. Mammographic studies show a peripheral, luscent halo, and the mass is radiographically similar in pattern to a normal breast ("breast within a breast"). Calcification is not present. Histologically, these encapsulated lesions are composed of various breast tissue components such as ducts, lobules, stroma prominently adipose, and smooth muscle, without any particular arrangement. Local surgical resection is the treatment o

3D bioprinted white adipose model forin vitrostudy of cancer-associated cachexia induced adipose tissue remodeling.

Cancer-associated cachexia (CAC) is a complex metabolic and behavioral syndrome with multiple manifestations that involve systemic inflammation, weight loss, and adipose lipolysis. It impacts the quality of life of patients and is the direct cause of death in 20%-30% of cancer patients. The severity of fat loss and adipose tissue remodeling negatively correlate with patients' survival outcomes. To address the mechanism of fat loss and design potential approaches to prevent the process, it will be essential to understand CAC pathophysiology through white adipose tissue models. In the present st

Immunoreactivity for the human hematopoietic progenitor cell antigen (CD34) in lipomatous tumors.

The human hematopoietic progenitor cell antigen (CD34) recently was shown to react with a variety of nonhematopoietic tissues and their tumors, including vascular endothelium, dendritic interstitial fibroblastic cells, and endoneurial cells as well as with the neoplastic cells in a variety of mesenchymal neoplasms of unknown etiology, such as Kaposi's sarcoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, epithelioid sarcoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and solitary fibrous tumors. Additionally, it has been claimed that normal adipocytes may also react with this antibody. We studied a series of 90 lip

Thymoangiolipoma: A rare histologic variant of thymolipoma in a patient with myasthenia gravis.

Thymoangiolipoma is a rare, slow-growing, benign thymic neoplasm that arises from the anterior mediastinum. A 61-year-old man with the chief complaint of right eye ptosis and high serum acetylcholine receptor antibody level is presented here. The spiral computed tomography of the chest revealed a hypodense mass in the anterior mediastinum. Microscopic examination showed admixture of adipose tissue, thymic tissue and blood vessels with the diagnosis of thymoangiolipoma. Thymoangiolipoma is a rare histologic variant of thymolipoma which can be associated with myasthenia gravis and must be consid

Lipomatous tumours of soft tissues: an update.

This review summarizes the clinicopathological features of recently characterized variants of lipomatous tumours of soft tissue, attempts to deal with some difficult conceptual issues relating to adipocytic neoplasms and aims to provide an update on cytogenetic aspects of fatty tumours. Myolipoma is a rare benign neoplasm, occurring most frequently in adults in the deep soft tissue of the abdomen or retroperitoneum, and is composed of irregularly admixed mature adipose and smooth muscle tissues. Chondroid lipoma represents an unusual benign lesion occurring mainly in adult females subcutaneous

Update on Adipose Tissue and Cancer.

Adipose tissue is the largest endocrine organ and an accepted contributor to overall energy homeostasis. There is strong evidence linking increased adiposity to the development of 13 types of cancer. With increased adiposity comes metabolic dysfunction and insulin resistance, and increased systemic insulin and glucose support the growth of many cancers, including those of the colon and endometrium. There is also an important direct crosstalk between adipose tissue and various organs. For instance, the healthy development and function of the mammary gland, as well as the development, growth, an

Lipothymoadenoma of the parathyroid.

We describe the clinical and morphological features of a most unusual functional mediastinal tumor that combines features of thymolipoma and lipoadenoma of the parathyroid gland. The lesion was unique in that microscopic elements of benign thymic, adipose, and parathyroid tissue were admixed intimately in one partially encapsulated mass. To the best of our knowledge, there has not been a previous description of this tumor. It was excised from a 54-year-old woman with a 10-year history of persistent hyperparathyroidism. The controversial relationship of embryological malformation, hamartoma, an

Thoracic liposarcoma: resection and chest wall reconstruction.

Liposarcoma is a malignant neoplasm of mesodermal origin derived from adipose tissue. It most often originates in the extremities and retroperitoneum, and less frequently in the head and neck. Liposarcoma involving the chest wall is extremely rare with few reported cases. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment, and complete resection is the major factor influencing survival. We describe the case of a 65-year-old man diagnosed with a dedifferentiated liposarcoma of the chest wall, who underwent radical resection and chest wall reconstruction with a latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous flap.

Benign mesenchymoma of the mediastinum: a case report.

Benign mesenchymoma is an uncommon tumor containing at least two or more differentiated mesenchymal elements in addition to fibrous tissue. The case we presented here is a 60-year-old male who suffered from a superior posterior mediastinal mesenchymal tumor composed predominantly of mature adipose tissue separated by fascicular bundles of spindle cells admixed with cartilage and osseous tissue. The spindle cells were confirmed to be smooth muscle in nature by trichrome Masson stain and immunohistochemical studies, providing a picture consistent with that of benign mesenchymoma. 31 cases of primary hyperplasia and neoplasms of the parathyroid gland are reported. Among them, 23 cases were parathyroid adenoma, 6 cases parathyroid hyperplasia, one case adenoma associated with hyperplasia, and one case of parathyroid adenocarcinoma. Follow-up study demonstrated that prognosis in the adenoma group is better than that in the hyperplasia group, and one carcinoma patient died from metastasis. Regarding differential diagnosis, adenoma is usually single, with frequent presence of oppressed parathyroid tissue next to the tumor capsule; and cell atypical hyperplasia is often seen
